2015 YUKON NOISE IN CABIN

...left hand not knowing the right.... Nah. Seems to me GM doesn't have a clue and the likely reason they don't is because they haven't made finding out a priority (as in event code 1100). -

Well, Thirdsuburban. I certainly hope there is a resolution to your issue. Similar problems have been reported to dealers, GM, and GM Customer Care since before July of this year, with no resolution thus far. Note however the majority on this thread have reported buffeting. However, in another thread on this forum (http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/153186-shake-or-vibration-issues/page-250?do=findComment&comment=1537048), there are several reported vibration problems not dissimilar to yours. You may find additional information in that thread which may be of interest to your dealer. That information will certain not be available to you from GM Customer Care. -

....I'm willing to bet, in GM's escape from responsibility program, they have decided the problem is one and the same. -

Not a bloody chance. Basically, what GM is saying is there is no problem. Since there is no problem, there is nothing to fix. Further (attention Feds), GM says to turn off AFM to eliminate the problem that doesn't exist; but, in saying that, they just screwed CAFE by invalidating the fuel economy ratings for that engine. Sweet. -

Rather a sad state of affairs, isn't it...where the owners of a vehicle, not the manufacturer find the solution to a problem and then speculate whether or not the manufacturer will do anything about it. This cannot come as a result of a one off attitude or experience. It's a view point learned from many past experiences or observations. So basically people have learned two things over time: (1) if there is a problem with your vehicle, you will have to find the cause and the solution; and, (2) you will have to apply your solution because the manufacturer will not. What does that say about a brand? In one question, Andymac pretty much summarized GM's corporate persona. Sad. -

It is highly possible GM is not looking at the Bose system ... this was brought to GM's (and Bose's) attention by an owner and we all know that owners are stupid and don't have a clue. It is also possible that Bose and GM are in the finger pointing mode rather than the fix it mode. -

That was certainly the correct decision for you and sad hear you've experienced this in several different trucks on various lots. It is frustrating, annoying, and disappointing for problems like this (and the vibration problems noted on the new Sierra trucks) to occur when you buy a brand new vehicle. I truly hope all of you and GM get these matters resolved. In my own situation, the fact GM continues to sell vehicles with these known problems without disclosure to the purchasers (and perhaps dealers), simply furthers my case against them. Equally to the point, each time one of these situations comes up, GM and some of the Dealers act like this is a one off situation to be brushed off, pushed aside, or an effort to pull the owner through the wringer for weeks and months hoping they eventually just give up. Sad. -

The Bose AudioPilot and Active Sound Management technologies are deployed in a significant number of brands and models. http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/automotive/manufacturers.jsp Also understand this is not a product in the traditional sense, rather it is a suite of technologies which can be deployed into an automobile and customized to the specific needs of the automobile and the "wants" of the manufacturer. Whether or not GM, in concert or not with Bose, is investigating these technologies with respect to this issue is unknown and we will likely never know. As well, Bose AudioPilot and Active Sound Management can work together; but, AudioPilot does not imply Bose Active Sound Management systems are also installed. ("Noise Compensation" and "Noise Cancellation" are two different animals but still complimentary to each other. As well, the Bose legal department's influence can been seen ... the term is 'sound management' not noise cancellation..except with their headphones. ) Note: Bose has also developed and deployed magnetic suspension systems. Whether or not GM's magnetic suspension is a total in-house development or in collaboration with Bose, is not clear to me. -

Well, kind of and not kind of. Below what is known as Fs, or the Schroeder frequency, sound behavior in a enclosed space becomes modal. Modal behavior, in the most simple sense, means there are areas within a space which, for any given frequency, the sound peaks (is louder) or nulls (softer). Modal behavior would predict modal peaks in the center of the space...or near the second/third row of seats. That would explain the greater impact in that area. As to the pressure. If we produce, say a 50Hz, sound in a room from a single source (a speaker), you can move around the room and hear areas where the sound is loud and areas where you can no longer hear the sound. Now, if we produce sound of the same frequency and loudness (sound PRESSURE level - SPL) but exactly 180 degrees out of phase, you will not hear the 50Hz noise. We detect sound as a change in pressure...if there is no change in pressure, we don't perceive sound. The 180 degree out of phase signal basically makes the pressure constant...there is no change in pressure, hence we do not perceive (or hear) sound. HOWEVER, we have now increased the air pressure in the room. That increase in air pressure is what you are feeling where active noise cancellation is in use ... if you are a pilot and use Noise Cancellation headsets (ala Bose A20), as soon as you turn them on, you feel a constant pressure in your ears. So what's happening in these Yukons? I have no definitive clue. I haven't experienced it, haven't tested a truck with that problem, haven't hacked the Bose DSP to determine what they are doing (and I wouldn't anyway), and haven't had the results of testing to present for Medical review. (Although I do have significant experts in the field available to me.) More troubling to me is why this occurs in some trucks and not others...that would mean one would need two trucks to test and determine exactly where the differences are. That puts the burden clearly on GM and they appear to be either in denial or keeping the issue very close to the vest. I'm certainly not buying two Yukons! 20Sierra14 ... the circumstance with your wife is very serious. Either the truck is causing this or there is some other medical condition which needs immediate attention. In any case, the situation you described (accident) needs to be reported to both GM and NHTSA immediately. I truly hope your wife is OK and this is not some other medical issue. EDIT: -- This is assuming the ANC system is, in fact, the culprit and something else is not going on. GM is not the only automobile manufacturer using ANC! This implementation may be the problem, may be contributory to the problem, or be totally unrelated to the problem. -- Turn off ANC. In what they give we stupid owners (as defined how they treat their owners), there is nothing which would clearly indicate how ANC can be defeated (fuse, On/Off switch, etc.). In the absence of that information, the best you can do is disconnect all the speakers (don't short the leads out if you try this). -

Ok...so I took the 2015i out for a bit more and varied driving to see if I could get the buffeting problem. So, I went to where I parked it overnight, kicked the tires, lit the fires and started rolling. I no sooner got up to 34 MPH and OMG. The buffeting was horrible ... my arm hairs started moving due to the pressure, the truck started shaking hard enough to make cocktails. Two F-15, 200' AGL at full military power can certainly rattle a Yukon. Ok...in any case, this 2015i did not exhibit any of the buffeting some of the others have. I didn't look up the build date; but, it was certainly within the past 4-5 weeks. -

Just a nit ... it is buffeting not buffering. (Not picking on you but, you'll need to use the correct term when you file claims.) You need to check the lemon laws in your state to determine the course of action to have GM buy back the Suburban. You should also file the issue with BBB Autoline, and with NHTSA. At this point, you also need to write down the dates/times/people you have spoken with at the dealership, gather up all your sales paperwork, and all service records you have from the dealer. Going forward, you want to document all contacts with the dealer and/or GM/Chevrolet with respect to this issue. Best of luck and hope you find a Suburban without this problem. -

I had the opportunity to test drive a 2015i Yukon Denali (8-speed) yesterday. The sound/pressure issue was not evident in this version. I will have an opportunity to further test it on Friday and Saturday. Based upon yesterday, I don't suspect the issue will occur in this specific truck. -

Let' see. "Someone" came and drove your truck. "You" weren't afforded the opportunity to be there. "You" don't know who "Someone" is. "You" do not know what specific expertise "Someone" has; but, since "Someone" was from GM, they must be right, you must be wrong, you cannot discuss the matter with "Someone" but since "Someone" is from GM, the case in closed in GM's favor. Maybe you could have "Someone" from Ford, Dodge, or Toyota drive the truck...wonder what they'd say. You see nothing wrong with this picture? -

For those of you have this problem who also have experienced headaches, dizziness, and/or disorientation, I would urge you to report this to NHTSA. The symptoms you state you've had can result in fatigue, loss of situational awareness, and distraction which could lead to a serious, if not life threatening, accident. I don't have a dog in this particular circus and hence have no grounds to do so myself. -

"We're very sorry for the multiple issues you've encountered with your 14 crew cab. Please feel free to send us a PM or an email [email protected] if you'd like for us to look into these further for you. We're happy to assist any way we can." Eddie A --- and just what authority do you (or your cubical mates) have to address this problem, swap the truck, refund the customer, compensate the customer, etc.? Answer - none. All you can do is delay, defer, redirect, and waste time. -

"had the buffering noise and pressure in the ears feeling. One thing we noticed, the worst was in the longer versions." The fact it could manifest itself more in the trucks with greater interior volume and dimensions would be expected. Human sensitivity to low frequency 'sounds' decreases very rapidly as frequency decreases. It is very reasonable to expect some would not "hear" a buffeting sound. By the same token, if the vibration is (a) below your threshold of hearing and (b) of high energy (if you could hear it, it would be very loud), you could feel the change in pressure. This sensation could easily cause discomfort and vestibular disorientation. Sensitive test equipment (not likely in GM's inventory of test toys) could determine the energy and frequency. At those levels, many humans could be insensitive to the entire situation. How it would affect very young children (babies), and pets who cannot communicate their discomfort in ways we cannot fully understand is unknown but could contribute to partial and permanent hearing loss. My Denali is not affected by this problem...which is not to say there isn't a 'nasty' matter betwixt myself and GM with respect to this vehicle. In the end, this problem and mine have common ground. Silence, inaction, denial, and do-nothing-itis on the part of GM. The problem in this thread just happens to be of professional interest to me. (And, to rub salt in the wounds...the Bose system is a disaster, not the premium product you'd expect in a $60k to $90K vehicle, and AudioPilot...a cool idea that simply doesn't work in this environment...and, yes Bose knows it.) -

I am not at all surprised that GM is trying to hide this issue and be less than forthcoming with the dealers. They've put the dealers in this position in the past. Ignoring it is not going to make the problem go away. In my case (different issue), multiple sources within GM misinformed the dealer, provided me (in writing) with absolutely incorrect information and, knowing full well they were looking at a buy back situation, kept dragging their feet until the magic 7500 miles came up on the odometer. -

Check your state's lemon laws. A note on "enhanced bass" from a previous post. The Bose system in these vehicles, and more to the point those with AudioPilot, are very poor. The bass management is horrible and you can have just nasty overwhelming bass on certain tracks ... at levels not in the recording. Neither GM nor Bose are willing to admit to the issue which means no fix. You'll have to replace the Audio system or turn the bass levels down (considerably). Vehicles at this price point should not have such awful audio systems. This issue is not related to the primary topic of this thread. Back to your originally scheduled programming.
