  1. I know this is going to look suspicious being only my third post but I wasn't sure what forum to join at first. I have noticed a shake or vibration in my new 4x4 crew 5.5 box 5.3 truck it seems to come and go and has been a pain to pin point what makes it happen. I can feel it in the steering wheel, seat and sometimes the gas petal but mostly in the steering wheel. It seems to be most noticeable going up or down hill with very light acceleration but can do it on level ground at cruise speed too. And the fun part is it doesn't always do it to make it more of a challenge to diagnose it. Brought it to the dealer last week and I thought the mechanic was going to think I was crazy but he did feel it too which was a relief also the service writer test drove it after they balanced and rotated the tires and he said its slight, but he felt it too. We scheduled it to come in tomorrow and are opening a warranty claim. I have very little faith that its going to get fixed because of the nature of the vibration and it being so new that there probably isn't any info out there on what it could be. I really don't know what they can do tomorrow other then make phone calls. If I had to venture a guess I'm going to say its in the transmission or possibly the engine. We also have a 2012 equinox and on the same roads there's no vibration at all. Also I have the z71 and man does that thing ride STIFF! Every repair strip in the tar is felt hard! Anyone know if it just takes some miles to get the shocks broke in (2600 on it now)? My 04 was a z71 too and rode much, much softer then this. I would really like to get this figured out because it, along with a few other smaller things is preventing me from loving this truck.
  2. I recently bought a used 2016 Sierra Denali 5.3L 4x4 in March with 48k miles. Truck has been great until yesterday (now 52k miles) when I ease into the gas it shudders and shakes like crazy until i punch it. The tach is bouncing up and down and it doesn't matter if it's in v8 or v4. It almost feels like it's a misfire but it's weird that it only does it when I'm easing into the throttle or going uphill. The truck has the 8 speed transmission. Has anyone else ran into something like this and would the manufacturer warranty cover the fix for this?
  3. Who has replaced their factory rear driveshaft: Why? What brand or what type of custom build? Type of mods to driveshaft? Steel vs. Aluminum heavier/thicker walled/stronger Length added to accommodate lift kit? Heavier U Joints? Two piece? Cost? Results? Additional Advice or comments? Feel free to add in any field I neglected to mention. *I searched, but did not find a dedicated replacement driveshaft thread.
  4. Hey all, so I have a 17 Silverado 5.3. 33000km was driving around yesterday. Truck was at operating temp and trans temp was at 76 so all was good. it was driving fine, then I got home. And backed into my driveway. Parked emptied groceries yadda yadda. 5 minutes later realized I had to pull in. Got in, and did just that. Then 5 minutes later had to run to corner store. This is when the truck started rough and check engine light started blinking and it was like I had no power. ( and when I say rough, it was god awful. Like bucking and lurching) Turned around a parked it. 2 hours later drove it 40km and not an issue. Next morning drive to and from work (7km each way) no issue. some say it can be the anti theft , or dirty injectors or worse clips or plugs. Trucks only got 33k help?!
  5. Hi everyone, new to the forum but I’m at the end of my ropes here this is my Hail Mary. So I have a 2016 Silverado crew cab 6.5’ bed 5.3l 4WD 6 speed automatic transmission. The transmission was fully rebuilt at 75,000 The truck has 89,000 miles on it. I am complaining about a shake/vibration of course but I don’t feel as if mine is like most. Mine doesn’t seem as violent as others describe. I’m experiencing a vibration and a noise almost like driving over rumble strip in the road. This problem comes about when you are gentle on the throttle and at a lower rpm around 1200-1500. If you feather the throttle at 55 MPH you can easily replicate the issue. Next is issue number 2 I’m not sure if they are related but my gut is telling me they are, I recently noticed when stopped then slowly take off as in just letting the truck roll at idle of the line I feel like a small wobble/bounce as it kind of rocks you back and forth in your seat. Both issues go away once you give it more throttle. I’ve had the torque converter replaced first once the issue came back I then I’ve changed the transmission fluid to the updated fluid, rotated the driveshaft 180 degrees and that has been the longest fix for 3 weeks. Any suggestions are helpful and appreciated and thanks in advance
  6. Patient - 2019 1500 LD, 5.3, 6 sp, 7200 miles old, Covid-19 negative. Symptoms - 2-3 second shutter / shake / rumble, during light acceleration, 30-40 MPH and low RPM. Happens while both in V4 mode and while in v8 (manual w/ transmission set to L5). I thinks its the torque converter, but surfing the forum I see this issue mainly referenced to 2015+/- K2s and I'm not sure if they changed the trans in the final years. I'd appreciate either a TSB # or a link to another posting were I could find the TSB. I'd like to be able to take to my dealer and say "HERE....READ....FIX" (politely). Many thanks!
  7. Hi, I'm pretty new to this website. Came across it when I was looking for an answer to my problem . . . I don't know too much about trucks.. cars....4 wheel vehicles. I just bought this 06 crew cab 1500 silverado 4.3L had about 80k miles on it. I actually noticed the sound when I was test driving it from the dealer. Now it has about 101k miles and noise is still the same. it makes a rattling noise, almost like a metal noise at LOW rpms only. Doesn't matter if its 35 or 75mph. Have to be cruising like slight amount of acceleration. Sounds like its coming from the engine.. I checked a bunch of forums all saying different things. my truck is stock, as far as i know.. one of the forums mentioned it could bea bad alternator, but I have no clue. any help? Sorry I'm a complete noob. Ivy
  8. Hi All, Realize there are a lot of threads on this but nothing recent that I can find and nothing on a 2019 model. I have a 2019 Tahoe LT, purchased 08/18, that was a great truck until now. I took it to dealer in 09/19 for oil change/tire rotation at 6,200 miles and felt a vibration upon leaving. I was surprised they could change oil, rotate and balance 4 tires and do a multipoint inspection in 45 min. I thought ok, their balance machine is not right. Vibration turned violent within ~500 miles so I took it to a Firestone tire shop. 2 of the 4 were way out of balance and 2 others were out of balance but to a lesser extent. Did NOT solve shake. Took back to dealer 10/19 at 7,500 miles and complained of shake. They did road force balance and replaced 2 tires. Ran okay for ~700 miles then was back with a vengeance. Returned to dealer 11/19 8,500 miles with same complaint. Ended up doing road force balance again and 2 more new tires. Thing shook as a drove away. Truck is at the dealer now and I'm dealing with service director who claims per the picoscopre, everything is fine and within spec. Running fine. I'm going for a test drive with him tomorrow morning. Has anyone had this issue on a '19? Has anyone had any success getting this issue solved? I don't think I could even trade this thing in the way it shakes right now nor do I want to take a bath on it financially. Has anyone gotten an aftermarket driveshaft? That seems to be a possible culprit although my dealer says mine is fine. New shocks? I'm at a total loss...
  9. Just the other day I started to notice a vibration/rattle noise coming from the front passenger side around 70mph. It almost sounds like the windshield, or what you would expect something rattling against glass to sound like. I can’t pinpoint where it’s coming from, but’s somewhere within the vicinity of the passenger side dash/windshield/headliner area. Sounds more like it’s around the headliner area. It it mostly only seems to happen at higher speeds (70+mph) although today I did just today hear it at 60mph for the first time. My guess is maybe the the windshield is leaking some air since it happens at higher speeds??? Because going over bumps doesn’t seem to have any negative or positive impact on the noise. Anyone else have any issue like this, or any guess as to what it might be?
  10. Hello all! First post here! What brought me here was the 8l90 torque converter lockup shudder issue. Most times I'd just take this truck to the dealer and let them sort it out, but as it's out of warranty, this is not something I'd like to pay >$600 to repair (this price was quoted to me for the flush and filter change). After talking to a few service advisors I've found that each of them planned on using a different solution to attempt to alleviate the shudder. The first was going to proceed via one of the bulletins and do a triple fluid swap and filter change, the others were just going to do a standard flush and fluid swap. I plan on owning this vehicle for another few months until the 19's become a little more negotiable but cannot stand to let this shudder go on that long and am a bit worried about destroying the torque converter in the process and washing a whole bunch of parts down into the transmission. So.... my question is if anyone has performed this fluid swap themselves, if it alleviated the issue, and if the filter change is necessary? I saw that many of the Corvette guys were swapping to the Mobil 1 fluid with some success, however, I didn't think this was as much of a fluid performance issue as it was a suspended clutch material / dirty fluid issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!
  11. Hey guys just bought a 2016 Chevy Tahoe LTZ on November 10 and it has been shaking and vibrating at speed above 67mph. I noticed a lot of vibration driving on the way home the first day,so took it back the very next day. The dealer did balancing and gave it back to me but it still vibrated so took it back the next day again. This time dealer kept it for 2 days and replaced 2 tires which could not be balanced and then gave it to me. The truck still had the vibration so I took it back immediately and asked them to look at it. The mechanic acknowledged that vibration is present and said that it is normal and all of them do this. So I test drove an indentical suv and that did not vibrate. So the dealer kept it another few days and are now changing all the tires again. At this point I think there is something wrong with the suv as it has been in the shop for more days than I have driven it. It has only 500 miles and all are due to service advisors's test rides to check for shake. Dealer has been courteous so far but I don't think they have a clue about what is wrong with it. Any pointers what could be the problem? I am seeing lot of other posts with similar problems on the forums but no resolution so far. Reached out to GM but no replies so far. Very concerned and frustrated with this purchase.
  12. I have a new 2015 Chevy Colorado Crew Cab Z71 2x4 and i have had it for about a month now after waiting 2 months ordering it. I am hoping someone here can help or possibly provide some insight beyond what I have already been able to figure out. I am getting a pretty strong left to right shake on the freeway that starts almost exactly at 79/80 mph and doesn't go away as i go up. I live in Southern California so 80mph is a pretty standard speed on the freeways here. If no one is in the passenger seat you can see it moving back and forth. I don't feel it at any lower speeds. I have had it to the dealership 3 times so far. 1st time they balanced the tires and it didn't fix it. 2nd time i took the tech on a ride and he said he definitely felt the shake and thinks it is most likely the drive shaft. So i take it the 3rd time and they had it for a week only to find out they only balanced the tires again. They claim to have done the vibration test and couldn't find anything and obviously didn't listen to the tech that was in the car with me. They have since claimed there is no issue and I am basically making it up/ it is a normal shake. Personally, i don't think they even tested it at 80mph because they keep trying to say that since it is over the speed limit they can't test it. I would love to hear them say that to someone who bought the Corvette and had this complaint. I am not an idiot when it comes to cars, i have worked on my own cars for a long time but this is a brand new car that I feel the dealership and Chevrolet/GM should be doing a far better job of insuring it is issue free and SAFE. I do have another scheduled appointment with the dealer set up through Chevy/GM customer service where i will show them the video i recorded with my GoPro that proves at 80 and over its shakes like a massage chair so bad you can't even see the cars/lanes through the window. I love the truck and really want to get this issue fixed but if Chevy keeps denying it and wont stand behind their products I will have to get the lawyers involved and lemon law. If the truck would have came with a disclaimer that you can't drive over the speed limit without it shaking I wouldn't have bought it. I would love to hear if anyone else is having the same issue or any professional mechanics that might have an idea of what it could be. Thanks
  13. You guys seem to post useful info, perhaps you can help. In short, I started noticing significant vibration that progressively got worse, beginning around 10k miles (now have about 25k). I assumed tires and went through the usual troubleshooting... balanced them a couple of times, rotated, etc. Stock 20 inch wheels. I don't have much faith in factory tires, so I replaced them with stock size Michelin LTX MS/2. It rode a lot better for a couple hundred miles, then I noticed vibration getting worse again. Had tires rebalanced. Called Chevy dealer (3 months ago), they were dealing with this issue and had no answers yet and several trucks waiting diagnosis. Started doing my own diagnosis... visited dealer again and he told me Michelins could be the problem. He can put picometer on the truck but they won't fix the center console vibration because it's just something we have to live with according to him. No joke... you can put a bottle of water in the console (60/40 split) and it will occasionally slop out the open top. To be fair, it rides OK... a lot better than my wife's Jeep Wrangler. But in my mind you shouldn't be able to even have this dissussion... the Siverado shouldn't have this kind of vibration at all. All said... I'm still feeling a bunch of pulsation in the steering wheel at idle and more vibration up to 1200-1800 rpm. This is a pulsation up and down with overall vibration, it does not wobble like a bad front tire. It has little to no change with road conditions (cracks, bumps, etc). Not much change if at all if you drop it in Neutral. It seems to me to be more related to RPM than speed or road conditions. You do feel a different ride condition if you're on concrete... a little stiffer ride, but that's not the vibration I'm feeling in the steering wheel. Every now and then you get a sensation like a broken shock (remember the 80's silverado's?), but it's not consistent. Any thoughts or help? I'll get back to the dealer and hook up their pico-meter... I suspect a bad motor mount or some rotating engine attachment with a balance problem. Perhaps other vibration in the frame coming up the steering column. I would think a bad power steering pump except the electric steering kind of kills that idea... I've driven GM trucks my whole life and I've never seen one that runs this well have this much vibration. When I got in it, it rode like a Cadillac. Now it feels a whole lot more like an old Dodge or really old Ford. Frustrating thing is that it's not consistent... same roads, sometimes different levels of vibration. I am convinced it is not speed related, which takes tire balance out of the equation. This is Houston, TX... I just realized that the vibration seems to be a little less severe lately. Daytime highs are 90-95 right now, evenings are quite a bit cooler. Perhaps a coincidence... I'm grasping at straws now. Thanks for any help... or other ideas about how to diagnose it.
  14. I have a 2016 Silvarado LTZ Z71 4x4 with the 8 speed... About 13,500 miles on it and it's started to develop a "shudder" and it's been shifting harder. On cruise control it will shudder at around 1300 rpm with speed staying constant. I've driven it in manual on new roads at 35 MPH and it also shudders around the same RPM range. We're talking about vibration enough to shake the steering wheel. Almost the same effect as driving over bumps in the road. When driving it very aggressively at higher RPMs the issue isn't as severe. Also when drifting, aka letting the vehicle decelerate, the issue goes away. Has anyone had the same issue with the 2016 8 speed? Any solutions? I'd like to have an idea of what the problem is before going to the dealership tomorrow. I bet $100 they'll tell me it's the tires.... Thanks for input, JK29
  15. Okay so I trying to track down a vibration at 68-75 mph (no I'm serious) the dealer has already did the road force and force match process and it is better, but not right. Currently my truck has Goodyear LS-2's on it. The dealer has a set of the same rims but with Continental crosscontact tires on them. I watch them upgrade a Tahoe to 22's. the Tahoe has the same NHT towing package and the tires are rated the same in all respects. The dealer said If they try those and I like the ride better we can keep them on the truck and basically do a swap. since my truck has very low miles. I did notice that the vehicles on his lot with higher stock numbers (newer ones) have continentals and the older stock numbers have Goodyears ls-2s. So why did GM change their tire supplier for these size rims (275/55/20) Question is which do you like best Goodyear or continental, and why? the Tire rack compare feature slams the goodyears and says good things about the continentals.
  16. I purchased a 2015 GMC Yukon a couple years ago. We love the truck but have been having constant problems with it. Whenever the AC is on it shakes like Michael J Fox on a carnival ride when at idle. The exhaust stinks of antifreeze to the point whenever I get gas people comment on it. The dealership claims GM has never heard of these shaking or idling rough which I know is a lie. I have a 2016 Silverado and it doesn't have this issue(yet). The tech at the dealer claimed it is operating normally. He admitted that he smelled the antifreeze too. They claim that the catalytic converter is designed to smell that way. I have had this thing in the dealership 4 times and am getting sick of the lies. I told them to recreate the rough idle all they have to do is put the truck in 2wd mode and have the AC on. It generally happens after you have been on a the highway for a few minutes and then take an off ramp and have to sit at a stop. They claimed they couldn't reproduce it. When I picked up the truck they had put it in 4x4 mode and turned the AC OFF!!! I think they intentionally did that. I have a truck that is brand new and my wife is afraid to drive it. It likes to lose power in intersections and I am afraid that when I cross the road it will stop and I will be hit. I have a warranty on it but I can't get the dealership to admit there is anything wrong with it. I purchase new vehicles quite often and this will be my last GM purchase. According to GM I paid 74,000 dollars to have a truck that idles like a 30 year old truck with bad plug wires and it STINKS or anti-freeze.
  17. I have a vigorous vibration on my floor mounted shifter at 65mph. This weekend I got my tires balanced, replaced my u joints, and tightened down the bolt in the cab that holds my shifter in the housing compartment. It still vibrates. I took it to a mechanic and they determined a bent driveshaft. Next, I took the drive shaft to a drivetrain specialists, they recommended building me a custom driveshaft since the other shaft was unfixable, and (from the receipt) balanced the driveshaft (not sure if the new or old driveshaft was balanced). The vibration is exactly the same at the same speed. Where do I go now? I am going to head back to the drivetrain specialists shop. I have a 2006 2500 Silverado 6L V8 Ext cab. Sidenote: A muffler/exhaust system that was not tight could shake around, but it would rather shake my truck as a whole and not just the floor mounted shifter, correct?
  18. If you have had a problem with your 2014 Silverado/Sierra and couldnt get GM to resolve it, did you file with BBB Autoline for arbitration? If so, did they help resolve your issues with GM? If yes, did you go to an arbitration hearing or did it get resolved before that point? Was your selling dealer involved in the resolution? If you lost your BBB case against GM, did you proceed anyway and file lemon law? If yes, what was the lemon lawsuit outcome? Do you have any thoughts about your BBB experience or lemon law experience with GM that may help someone else about to go through the same process? Thanks for any info. Edit, add BBB Autoline link http://www.bbb.org/council/programs-services/dispute-handling-and-resolution/bbb-auto-line/bbb-auto-lines-process/
  19. If your 2014 Sierra/Silverado has a vibration/shake, has a dealer used an EVA, Electronic Vibration Analyzer on your truck? If so, what was the reading? Did they give you any numbers and/or explain them to you? Were you present during the analysis? If so, where did they mount or put the analyzer? How long did it take? Did the analysis help or hurt your case about the shake/vibe? Thanks for any info.
