  1. Also, for the record I bought on GM employee discount. For those that do not know, when you buy or lease on GM employee discount, you sign away your rights to ever sue GM over anything related to the sale of the vehicle. In other words, you are stuck with that brand no matter what, and can never get any sort of refund or buyback. Yes they can do things like MSRP to MSRP trades, but your money belongs to GM after you sign that paperwork. And no, they won't let you not sign that piece of paper on the day of the sale.
  2. I test drove 12 or 13 of these trucks (Sierra and Silverado). 10 of them vibrated pretty bad. 2 I couldn't really notice it. The 2015 I finally settled on after BBB'ing my 2014, I also couldn't notice it. Guess what. It ended up being a vibrator, and has been in the shop twice now. They're replaced 2 tires, and the rear axle assembly. DON'T KID YOURSELF. Test drive more or move on to another brand. You DO NOT want to get involved in this.
  3. Thought I would share photos of the balancing weights they added to some of my tires: <a href="http://s841.photobucket.com/user/mikegmi2/media/F70849FD-C454-4B7D-BE9D-37CA549D6286.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i841.photobucket.com/albums/zz335/mikegmi2/F70849FD-C454-4B7D-BE9D-37CA549D6286.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo F70849FD-C454-4B7D-BE9D-37CA549D6286.jpg"/></a> <a href="http://s841.photobucket.com/user/mikegmi2/media/80F27CFB-FF2D-4C0F-A78B-439116AA6DD5.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i841.photobucket.com/albums/zz335/mikegmi2/80F27CFB-FF2D-4C0F-A78B-439116AA6DD5.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo 80F27CFB-FF2D-4C0F-A78B-439116AA6DD5.jpg"/></a> Also, I had the rear axle assembly swapped out with new one last week on my 2015. I haven't had a lot of highway driving yet or tested the deceleration out to see if vibes are gone, so will update once I put a bit more miles on it. It is embarrassing I have owned 2 brand new trucks within the last year, and both had defective rear axle assemblies. That's a major component...not a headlight. Sad.
  4. I've literally gone through this 1 time before, and am going through it a second time right now. They will replace the entire rear axle assembly, and realign everything. With my first truck it completely fixed the issue, perfectly smooth when decelerating. This is a serious issue...everyone should check for noise/vibration when decelerating, specifically between 50-40mph!
  5. This is another issue...likely having the dealership take a look at the engine mounts will fix this. Many trucks need engine mounts to be shimmed. They had to do this on one of mine, and it did fix the issue.
  6. First vehicle was 2014 Crew V8 4x4 All Star, and second is 2015 exact same except the 2015 has 20" wheels. I have no idea about build dates. I wouldn't be surprised if they all have this problem. My 2014 axle problem was 2x as bad as the 2015. I test drove over 10 trucks before settling on the 2015 I eventually picked as the settlement between myself and GM...and I was looking for problems and didn't notice it during the test drive. It can be a very subtle rumble/vibration (like my 2015)...or a very noticeable higher frequency/more intense vibration (like my 2014).
  7. Good idea, everyone should be doing this. Be sure to just let the truck coast. The minute you apply any torque to those gears, they run smooth and will not make any noise. It is also not a ton of vibrating...it is subtle...which almost makes me wonder if this is one of those things where the OEM purposely puts a flaw in one of their products just so they can make more cash down the road in selling parts and service.
  8. It is likely a damaged prop shaft, or bad rear axle assembly. Im on my second truck, and both trucks had bad rear axles. Go here, print these pages out, and show them to the dealership. Tell them you did research and talked with others with the same problems, and that you know the trucks were built with bad parts: http://oemdtc.com/6392/information-on-vibration-analysis-and-diagnostic-2014-2015-chevrolet-silverado-gmc-sierra/3 It is sad, but you have to go in there and really let them know you know there are serious problems...otherwise they will fluff you off. Also, start a BBB case. In Michigan, 4 repair attempts is all it takes and then you can force GM to buy the truck back or give you a new one as replacement.
  9. So I just got word that my 2nd Silverado also has a bad rear axle assembly. Going to be in the shop for a week. Any of you that haven't checked for this...drive on the highway, then exit on the smoothest exit ramp you can find. As you decelerate to 50mph you will start feeling a rumble or vibration in the truck, especially in the steering wheel. This is your ring/pinion gears grinding due to excessive backlash. If this isn't fixed, your rear differential could be ready to fail about the time your warranty is expiring! This can only be felt during deceleration, when there is no torque being applied to the differential gears.
  10. Right, which is why as a group everyone should be asking for the measurements and specs in writing, and posting that info here for comparison purposes.
  11. Waiting at dealership for rental vehicle, gentleman in line behind me also just got done dropping off a brand new Silverado double cab. I asked him why he brought his truck in, his response, "Vibrations. I can't drive on the highway. It drives me nuts." I proceeded to tell him all about the 1000s of other trucks that are just like his, as he was new to the whole situation. I gave him some advice about the BBB since it was his 3rd repair attempt and he leased on GM employee discount. We have to continue to spread the word, bring more attention to this, put more pressure on GM, etc. It is the only way we can force GM to actually do something about this problem.
  12. Everyone should be questioning this "the pico scope reading is less than GM spec so there is nothing we can do" statement. What is the reading? What is the GM spec? The dealership should be able to tell you what the spec is, and what the reading is, or they haven't proven anything to you and thus they should be obligated to work on the vehicle. If they do provide the reading and the GM spec, everyone should be posting that information here so others can compare notes and tell whether the dealer is telling the truth or not.
  13. Where did all of this information come from? Service bulletins?
  14. Not sure what the deal is, the .jpg link is broken for me...but hopefully you got nothing short of full MSRP trade. That is what I got, and what everyone should get when trading in a lemon. That is what GM does. They offer you 2 crappy deals, maybe a third, then the arbitration date is set...and a day or 2 before arbitration, you will get a call saying they basically give up, and will give you full MSRP trade. Accept nothing less.
  15. You are exactly right about the out-of-spec parts. This is exactly the issue. It is well documented within GM, and they have called it a 'perfect storm' of parts being delivered to them out of spec for their 1500 truck lines. The problem is, rather than coming clean...they're playing the damage control game and forcing all of us to take trucks to the dealer multiple times, make BBB cases, and garbage like that. Piss poor way to treat your customers, GM. Word will continue to spread. Keep lowering those prices and keep the big incentives coming on those Sierras and Silverados! Gotta move that garbage...
  16. I call BS on that. It's like GM decided to make a change, put SRAs on trucks that paid for the all-terrain option, and asked Goodyear to put that little all terrain logo on the website. There's no other website that consider SRAs to be all terrain tires. They are cheap, highway all-season tires. It even says in the description on their website they are "original equipment". When you pay for the all-terrain upgrade, it says right on the window sticker "Replaces standard tires". Regardless of if they are or aren't all terrain, my 2014 had these exact SRA tires on it, WITHOUT the $200 all-terrain tire option. Many other trucks do as well, right now, go look on a lot. So what did that $200 get me? Nothing. Furthermore, tell me what tires WOULD have been on my truck, had I not paid for the $200 option. Probably the same tires...or, Goodyear Eagle LS2 tires, which are the same quality tire, cheap, pretty much the same price as SRA. On TireRack, the Eagles are actually $1 more expensive, lol. Some upgrade these SRAs are...
  17. Yea it isn't right. The SRAs are NOT all terrain tires, and to add to that they are extremely cheap tires. There is nothing about them that warrant a $200 or $350 upcharge. Ridiculous.
  18. I'm in a dispute with GM regarding this. Goodyear Wrangler SRA tires are not all-terrain tires. See my chat above with TireRack customer support. You can also search for all terrain tires on their website, and the Goodyear SRAs do not pop up as a choice for all-terrain. JesseD mentioned that previously, trucks were being built with Bridgestone Dueler A/T RH-S tires, which are in fact actual all-terrain tires. They are also around $20-30 more per tire. A fair upgrade and at least you are getting something extra for your $200. My theory is that GM has had such a cluster-bleep with the Goodyear SRA tires (it is a documented fact that large batches of these tires were produced out of spec, and are impossible to balance), and so many customers have complained, that GM is now throwing these tires on as many trucks as they can, so they can burn through them...and then stick Goodyear with a nice bill for all the defective tires. Either that, or GM simply made a mistake and started building trucks with the all-terrain option, with non all terrain tires. Either way, you should complain if you got SRAs and paid for all-terrain...because you got ripped off.
  19. You should seriously initiate a case with customer care about this, and immediately have it escalated to a supervisor. I just got done with a chat with TireRack support: Thank you for choosing Tire Rack. A product specialist will be with you shortly. You are now chatting with 'Ross' Ross: Hi, how can I help you today? Mike: Good morning Ross Ross: good morning. Mike: I have a question regarding all-terrain tires... Ross: Okay Mike: Are all-terrain tires branded with a special mark or lettering? Mike: Or specifically, are Goodyear Wrangler SRA tires "all-terrain" tires? Ross: No Mike: I noticed most all terrain tires have "A/T" in the name... Ross: No, the SR-A tires are just standard highway all-season tires. Mike: Ok thank you for your help Ross Ross: Is there anything else I can help you with today? Mike: No that is all, thank you Ross: thank you Ross: Thank you for chatting with us. We value your feedback. Please click the "End Chat" button at top right to answer a few questions about your experience with us today. Thank you for chatting with us. Please click the "Close" button on the top right of the chat window to tell us how we did today. The chat speaks for itself. If GM is going to sell customers an option for "all-terrain" tires, and are giving them cheap standard highway tires, there is something wrong there and customers are getting cheated.
  20. Well then GM owes me a set of Dueler A/Ts and they can take back these flawed SRAs. They definitely are not all terrain tires, and surely not an upgrade either. Right now I feel I have been ripped off for $200. Can anyone else chime in if you ordered or have a truck with the $200 all-terrain tire option (code RC7)?
  21. I was told it was due to ring/pinion backlash. Also, when they swapped out my rear axle assembly on my 2014, the 50mph steering wheel vibration was completely gone. It was also detailed in my service records that backlash was out of spec on ring/pinion, which is why they ordered me a new rear axle. All trucks have some degree of AFM vibe from what I understand, and that was something I was for the most part ok with. Are there trucks out there that do not vibrate when AFM kicks in at lower speeds?
  22. Ok, well that would make sense. my 2015 truck was delivered with Goodyear Wrangler SRAs! And I paid for the $200 all-terrain option (option code RC7). Those aren't even all-terrain tires...GM must be trying to scam people out of good tires, and at the same time make up for all the mess the Goodyears have caused. Service manager tried talking me into thinking they gave me the right tires. What a joke. I just did some online dealer investigating...and I found at least 3 other trucks that have this $200 RC7 option, and those trucks also have Goodyear Wrangle SRA tires. Those are not all-terrain tires! And there is no cost increase on those tires either (I noticed some trucks now come with Goodyear Eagle LS2 tires). On TireRack, the SRA tires are actually $1 cheaper per tire, than the Eagle LS2 tires, lol. So GM charges $200 for a 'tire upgrade', and gives you cheaper tires. What a scam!
  23. Make sure you also pay attention to vibrations in the steering wheel when decelerating (you will most notice when you get close to 50mph and below). This is due to faulty rear axle assemblies these trucks were built with. Ring pinion gears not correct backlash, which causes vibes.
  24. It is a simple $200 option for "all-terrain" tires (replaces standard tires). You don't get a new set of tires, they just take off the original tires and replace them with what I would assume is an upgrade from the Goodyear Wrangler SRA tires. My issue is, when I went through the BBB process and got GM to MSRP trade me a new 2015, the truck I settled on had this option, BUT, it came with the same crappy Goodyear Wrangler SRA tires that all these trucks are built with. I got into an argument with the service manager yesterday and he didn't seem to know what he was talking about, so back to the drawing board (time to call GM).
  25. Has anyone ordered the "all-terrain" tire upgrade option? The $200 one? If so, what tires did you get instead of the crappy Goodyear Wrangler SRA tires? I am currently in a dispute with my dealership because my truck has the $200 all terrain tire option, but it was delivered to me with Goodyear Wrangler SRA tires. What is even fishier, is that my SPARE tire is an actual upgraded tire! It is a Goodyear Wrangler HP tire. Does that make any sense? Did they pull a switcheroo on me? I bet what happened was that they had complaints about vibrations, took the HP tires off my truck since it was sitting on the lot, put them on another customers truck, and put their crappy SRAs on my truck.
