  1. So took my truck in for service and I was told that it is normal. I guess the new 2017 Silverado's have Active aero shutters in the front to improve MPG. So when I give it gas the shutters close to minimize drag.... Not sure if I like this answer but I think im going to hook up my go pro under the hood to see it in action.
  2. That's good to know. Thank you for the replies. I'll take it in today. I didn't think it was right.
  3. I have a 2017 Silverado 1500 5.3L crew cab 4WD. Just purchased Nov 17 and has about 500 miles on it. I live in phoenix Arizona and took it up north to payson last weekend. The freeway goes through some mountains so a lot of ups and downs. Not towing anything just 2 adults and 2 kids in the truck. I noticed my engine temp go up when I try to maintain speed and then go back down to 210 deg when I let off the gas. When I passed a vehicle I got on the gas and going on an incline and the needle went up (see picture). When we got back to phoenix I put it in manual shifting ran it about 3k RPM's and the needle will start moving up. My last truck was a 2005 duramax and the engine temp would always stay around 210 unloaded. When I would pull our trailer close to 8k lbs heavy on this route then engine temp would move and transmission temp would move as well but it was expected. Since this is my first 5.3l gas engine are they designed to run that way? is there a certain limit that it reaches then the fans would turn on to cool it? My concern is we go camping in payson and heading up there unloaded this is happening, If I would tow a camper or a trailer would this be the expected engine temp or now that im loaded up would it overheat? I haven't taken it to the dealer yet but I want to make sure its a problem before I take it and waste anyone's time. Mainly I don't want to take it to the dealer and they tell me they can't find anything and next time im heading up north to go camping it overheats and ruins the trip. If you guys can help I would greatly appreciate it. I don't have a digital gauge just the analog gauge. also if any of you don't mind running your truck at 3k rpms and see if it starts to warm up. If not I might have to "test" drive a new Silverado and try it out. Thanks
