Hi All. I am a new Member to the group. Hoping for some feed back.... I have a 2014 Sierra with 98,000 kms. Recently had my Oil Pump Replaced. This is how the events that lead up to this started. Lets note that the week previous to this my truck was in at the dealer for a regular oil change. I 1st noticed a whining sound from engine, almost sounded like a power steering pump on its way out. I chalked this up to it being cold outside as Motors make odd noises in extremely cold temps. At the time we were under a polar vortex in northern Ontario -35 degree Celsius all that week. I did notice my oil pressure gauge fluctuating more than normal to. A few days went by then my check engine light came on. The dealer was closed, so I went to my friends who owns a local garage to see what the code was on his OBD2 reader. It was PO6DD which is oil pump. That night the check engine light went out, but truck still had whining sound. I made an appointment to bring truck to the dealer that week. Luckily the engine light came back on before I took it in. They called, and said oil pump needs replaced, and will be covered under powertrain warranty. They provided a loaner, and had truck back in a week. Part had to be brought in from the US. On the work order it showed they replaced oil pump, seals, and gaskets, coolant, oil/filter. After reading some of the people who had same issues here on forum, it leaves me a little worried. Some people had a new engine replaced, or metal shavings found in oil, valves replaced, ect... What if the GM tech didn't look into all these things, or look at things like the oil, and if it had metal. Keep in mind this is a small dealership in a Northern small town . I am sure they don't see the extent of repairs like a larger dealership would in a bigger town. Just a little worried and paranoid right now. My powertrain warranty ends in Aug 2019. Engine could go after that is up, if motor wasn't properly assessed from the oil pump failure. My truck seems to currently run OK. Oil pressure seems fine again. Sometimes I swear I hear the whining noise I 1st heard before oil pump was replaced when I 1st start the truck, sound goes away in a few seconds. Or now wondering if the truck always made that noise when starting, and I just didn't notice? Am I just being paranoid? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks for Reading folks.
