  1. I am having similar issues with my case. I gave almost the exact same set up, except 4.10 gears and 2002. Changed the fluid and it looked very dark and FULL of shavings. I'm going to crack it open soon and assess the damage but i assume the problem is the common pump rub starting to occur. Next step is the merchant automotive pump-rub kit which is probably cheaper than a whole transfer case. Give it a try!
  2. I just found this forum today, coincidentally I changed my transfer case fluid the other day. 2002 z71 Silverado with 215,000 miles. I’m not sure if it had ever been changed, maybe one Other time since I am the second owner. Oil looked horrific. Black and tons of fine metal shavings. Everything still works just fine 4x4 wise, however I think I may be a victim of “pump rub” so I will be dropping my case soon and assessing/fixing that.
