  1. Gentlemen, Im ready for a new radio, any ideas out there?
  2. Well OK. I changed my shark fin antenna a couple of weeks ago and today I took my truck to my local dealer for a HMI update. The HMI was updated with no improvement to the radio. Its still changing channels on its own and the other craziness its been doing for two years now. Ed I'm glad your radio corrected itself with this plan, but it didn't help mine! The good thing about today, dealer didn't charge me since it didn't fix it.
  3. UPDATE! even though my shark fin antenna replacement didnt fix the problem. The truck is changing menus, channels, scrolling station list, and the gauge info screen is changing to radio display again. Dash! i have not done the HMI upgrade! Is that my next option??? who knows. This is so depressing. A Great truck but no radio.
  4. Finally removed and replaced my shark fin antenna. The picture attached shows a large amount of white electrode type corrosion covering the forward ground plain of the antenna (left side of the picture) and also attached to the paint where it set. There was no way for that ground plain to conduct any type of ground. you can also see more corrosion located on the lower right side of the antenna in the picture. After one trip in the truck, for approximately 30 minutes of driving i saw no changing menus, channels, scrolling station list, or the gauge info screen changing to radio display. Keeping my fingers crossed, its fixed.
  5. update! my truck radio has gone crazy a couple of times since last post but always fixes itself quickly. Blew air under the sharkfin antenna for onstar and sirus XM radio and i had water come out from under antenna. I think Ed dyer is on to something with replacing it.
  6. Update!, THIS IS A VERY CAUTIOUS UPDATE!!!! My truck has been free of the radio problems for the last 3.5 weeks. All is good. I changed the grounding wire on the battery six weeks or so ago. Problem didn't go away after changing so thought it had no effect. But as time has gone on, i saw less and less of the self changing channels and screens. Now i haven't had a radio problem in 3.5 weeks. Ive also seen the alternator moving again from 12.5 volts up to 14.5 volts as it suppose to do. Somebody told me the trucks computer had to update the electrical power being used over time to get rid of the charging problem caused by the bad cable. Below picture on left is of the new battery ground cable installed that was bought GM original equipment, notice the writing on the shinny cable. Picture on right is old cable very dull and no writing except for CABLENA stamped into the plastic. See if your cables look like either of these. If my radio starts to act up again i will post it. very happy now!!!!
  7. ED, im going to give the HMI upgrade and shark fin a try. How much did the shark fin cost???
  8. ive been a Chevy person all my life, but now thinking about another brand. my dealer has no clue how to fix this problem and seems to really not care.
  9. 2016 silverado 1500 with 74000 miles. radio and touch screen has been going crazy for about 12 months now on and off. ive tried everything including replacing the negative ground cable on the battery like some folks have said do. dealer has been no help at all. Chevy needs to come up with a fix. anybody know where the ground for the radio system is.
