Hello to all, newbie here. Just bought my first new Chevy Silverado HD Custom. Actually it was July 5th when I signed away my everything to buy it. It was also my wife’s birthday. YIKES! It’s not here yet and the dealer is doing a tap dance about where it happens to be. I thought maybe I could get a bit of information from the forums that would help me out with a few questions. First a little explanation.
We bought the truck with the idea that we were going to use it to move our grandson and his family to Tennessee from here in Texas. I said I’d move them with my cargo trailer that I used to move my wife and I from California to Texas. They have a one bedroom apartment, no kids and two dogs. A very light load. But, I made that move using my Nissan Frontier, which is a great truck, but I can’t spend another 14 hours in that cab driving. 13 round trips to California and back at 3000 miles each round trip, and I’m done. And plus the fact that we are retired and want to hook up to a travel trailer or fifth wheel and go see this incredible country. We were told the 2500 would be here before we had to leave for Tennessee on the 29th of this month, which is why I completed the deal. With their promise, this leads me to question #1.
During the truck’s build cycle, at what point does it receive a VIN? Is it at the beginning of the build cycle, which is what I suspect, or at the end when it’s finished? I ask because it becomes a trust issue with the dealer. Like I didn’t already know they are about as crooked as a dog’s hind leg. If it’s at the beginning, then it’s going to take 10-12 weeks to build and ship. However, I was told the truck was finished and had just received its VIN and headed to the railhead for shipment because it had its VIN. It will be shipped to Mesquite Texas where it will then be delivered to the dealer in McKinney, TX. That was on Monday, 5 July. On July 9th, we stopped in to see if we could get a location on the truck. We were told it’s still sitting at the railhead. I didn’t like hearing that. Anyway, we went home and continued to wait.
Jump ahead to today, July 14, again we stopped in to determine the location of the truck. THIS TIME we were informed that it’s on its way to the railhead. Wait. The last two reports had it AT railhead, not being transported to it. This brings me back to when is the VIN assigned? I’m thinking it’s at the build start and that my truck was just beginning the build process somewhere around the first of July, and is still several weeks away from delivery.
#2 Does anyone have a website that I could actually track the truck from GM? Probably not but I had to ask.
Thanks for taking the time to read.
