  1. Dealer looked at truck and said they found a bad ground wire. Ground wire was replaced, ran great for a few weeks until service def system and service power steering lights came on again, and battery was completely dead the following morning.... Jumped truck, and after 5-6 key cycles, CEL went away. This is the 3rd or 4th time, the service DEF and service power steering lights have come on, followed by a dead battery in the morning. Once I get truck jumped, and after 5-6 key cycles, lights go away and battery is fine for a couple weeks. Timing of this problem seems to be consistent with regen periods???
  2. When the Service DEF system warning first came on, the DEF was at 1/2 tank. I filled it all the way up and warning light went away shortly after. Weird thing is the Service Power Steering warning went away at the same time and the power steering feels perfectly normal now??? When the warning light was on the power steering was very sensitive (overly assisted). The CEL remained on for 3-4 key cycles, and is now off.
  3. I purchased a used 2021 Silverado 2500HD Z71 6.6 Duramax w/ 40k miles, 5 weeks ago from Penske GMC. Two weeks ago I received a "Service Safety Restraint System" light. Took it to dealer who said I am 2 days past the 30 day warranty period. They said it was the front passenger seat haptic airbag sensor. They are checking to see if extended warranty will cover that. Yesterday I received two warnings, 1. Service Power Steering Drive With Care, but Power steering feels a little over assisted, power steering fluid is full. 2. Service DEF System See Owner's Manual, I added DEF 3 days ago and truck has over half tank. 98 miles until 65 mph max. This is my first diesel, any help or ideas will be appreciated. I understand every dealer trade-in was more than likely traded in for a reason, just hoping I didn't make the mistake of buying somebody else' lemon. Truck is unbelievably clean inside and out.
  4. Reputable shop in Torrance "Bothwell Automotive" said its a 26 hour job and should be $4500 including parts
  5. Took truck to dealer, discovered #5 lifters were pitted and cam was junk. All new lifters and new cam $8,900. Service advisor said he contacted GM who agreed to pay nearly half, I am responsible for $4600. FML... Sounds like I'm paying for everything and they're just lubing me up by jacking up total and saying GM is kicking in half when that is BS.
  6. Engine temp does not change anything, it happens hot and cold. Also pulled driver side valve cover, removed rockers, pushrods and everything looks good. Put it back together and started engine with valve cover removed and everything looks okay but the front rocker on #5 did not feel as smooth as all the others, I believe it was the intake. Not sure how else to describe it.
  7. 2015 5.3 Silverado with 84k miles recently developed a lifter tick around 2200-2300 rpm. Tick occurs in gear and out of gear at same rpm. No noise under 2200-2300 rpm and truck drives perfect. During acceleration (on ramp or passing) tick becomes louder (starting at 2200-2300) until approximately 4000 rpm where engine misfires, drops cylinder and throws a code. Scan tool shows P0305 code (cyl #5 misfire) only. Changed plugs, swapped coils and misfire stays at cyl #5. #5 is not a DOD lifter. Wondering if anyone has or had the same issue and what you did to resolve it. No warranty left, next step is to pull the cylinder head to further diagnose. If it turns out to be lifter, Im guessing I'd have about $1k in parts to replace. Dealer quoted $3500 to tear into it and diagnose. Service advisor said GM may or may not kick in any $$ for "goodwill" since truck is recently out of warranty and lifters are common issue? Thanks for any feedback
