So I went ahead and had my shop change the pump. GM Master tech on their staff so was confident they could handle the job. Was out the door for $1480. This included the pump, camshaft seal, Vacuum pump gasket, oil cooler gasket, oil pan seals, evac & recharge a/c, oil change, antifreeze, tax, and labor. Fortunately when inside everything looked great. No abnormalities or metal deposits. It seems like catching these things early is huge. I’ve read threads of people driving on the CEL for months which blows my mind. I would say if you’re hearing a whine don’t assume is power steering, just have a reputable shop take a peek. Complete failure would likely spell disaster for a bottom end. We’ll see how long this one lasts.. at the price I paid compared to others stating $2500, I’m pretty happy. Now time to enjoy my truck

A little backstory… Purchased new to me 2014 Silverado from a private seller w/99k miles Dealer serviced since day 1, clean truck, just questionable suspension set up (lowered z71). Test drove the truck, performed well, visited the dealer who serviced the truck and they vouched for it. Made the purchase. Fast forward… drove the truck for about 2 weeks and everything was good. Mtns, beach, daily driving no problem ~500 miles. Time for oil change… reputable indy shop performs oil change and swaps suspension parts for me I pick up the truck on a Friday and immediately notice that the oil pressure is reading high on my way home ~60psi and fluctuating down to 40psi at times. I take it easy on her, figure maybe they added a little too much oil… not overly concerned because it’s not peaking in the 80s and not dropping below 40. Next day after driving about 60 miles I get a CEL… the dreaded P06DD. Oil pressure remained up and the infotainment didn’t alert a pullover. Drive about 20 miles home and park the truck.. at idle I hear a PS type whine.. do some research and find the horror stories about these dreaded Oil Pumps… So a few questions… I’m almost certain the pump needs to be replaced... In doing so, what is the longevity of the replacement? What is the likelihood of catastrophic collateral damage being found once they get in there? Sell the truck with a code? Fix pump and sell/trade? Fix and ride into the ground? I haven’t found much on the subject of them being replaced and ppl having more issues, which could be a good thing. I have however read multiple situations of catastrophic damage (mostly seeming to be from complete pump failure). Did I catch it soon enough? Sorry for the long winded thread, just a bit overwhelmed and trying to weigh my options. Thanks!
