@KARNUT, GM requested an oil level check after a full tank of gas, so ~250 miles and no oil consumed I just took it in for the second tank recheck and no oil consumed, so my guess is they didn't top it off after they changed it to start the oil consumption test. Sucks to know that we drove around for 600 miles being very low on oil and NO Oil Light I'll throw a gal of oil in the back for our trip and check it often Thanks to everyone for the well wishes but for now, the dealer can't find anything wrong

Well back again... Took the Truck and RV for a drive through the country side last weekend to burn a tank of gas. Very pretty with all the wild flowers, oh wait off topic Took the truck back to the dealer, his first comment was, WOW, you are only getting 8.9 MPG, yeah when towing 7000 lbs... His next comment was, no oil used. GM said to bring it back after the next tank of gas. FRICK My guess is they didn't top it off when the first oil consumption test was started, can't prove it but don't really have anything else to explain it

Update: Per GM, pickup the truck and start the consumption test new... to drive it a full tank, fill it up and immediately return it to the dealership. They sited the service bulletin to go by gals of gas not miles, even though I had a log of my fill-ups, dates, mileage... they said that wasn't enough. Dealer says it's not right but there is nothing they can do As for the oil light not coming on when 4qts low, the oil light is not to be trusted and per GM, it's the customers responsibility to check the oil level. The dealer said they have a car now with a blown motor due to virtually no oil and the light never came on As for the tranny, they drove it about 5 miles in all gear patterns and couldn't reproduce anything abnormal - right 5 miles should have done it Because this is not my daily driver and I work from home... I now have to take it out and just burn a tank of gas just to get it back to them to continue the oil test in an attempt to get something done in time for my trip in 5 weeks

No worries on the questions, I get where you are coming from... As for lemon law, I have no clue where to start. My concern is this is the first time the dealer has seen the level being down, prior to this it was me telling them it was down 2.5 qts in 4500 miles. So does the lemon law apply here???

Hey again, No smoke on start up or while running, at least nothing that I can see. GMC requested pics of the plugs and to check the PCV, this is where we are at Originally I reported here and to the dealer, 4.5 qts in 4500 miles from my trip to the Pacific Northwest over 7 weeks back in Sept/Oct. Right after the trip is when the dealer told me this was within spec however, they agreed to the oil consumption test... Fast forward ~3 months and 600 miles after they changed the oil (the start of the oil consumption test), the oil light came on... since it was going to the dealer anyway due to hard shifting at 10-15mph and some pretty loud clunking when going into part from 4 low and backing up the trailer, we started talking about the oil light that came on a few days earlier, today is when they finally drained and measured the oil and report it was 4qts low at 600 miles... This kinda speaks to things getting worse pretty quickly, they are getting me a rental car tomorrow but so far, not sure what I'm going to do with my trip As for the hard shifting and the clunking when going into park after backing up in 4 low, they say that is normal, SMH

Oil light update... So far the dealer can't find any reason why the oil light came on (besides the obvious, the oil was low) No leaks, plugs are not fouled, PCV is good... they are now working with GMC on next steps And for the kicker, after 600 miles (I was corrected by the dealer, it's closer to 600 not 800 miles since they changed the oil and started the oil consumption test) the motor was 4 Qts low... WTF Now there is another issue, why didn't the oil light come on sooner? AND, why didn't the light come on when I drove it to the dealer last week when it was 4 Qts low... With this being said, we are scheduled to leave mid March on a cross country trip taking the RV to visit family for 3-4 months. I'm now pushing the dealer to replace the motor b/c I don't trust a "fix"... or what damage might have been done to this motor with less than 20k miles What a mess

I sure hope so, dropped it off today with the dealership The Oil Low light did not come on going there, good thing I had a pic of the dash showing the light and mileage, he looked at me funny when I said I have a pic, want to see it He said he was aware of the hard shift in that low speed range but didn't think anything would be done about it He had no comment on the Oil Light other than to ask if I added oil or checked it... No and No Also concerned with some pretty loud clunking when in 4 low, backing up, go to park and set the brake... they will look at that as well Fingers crossed

Back again My last oil change was 2.5qts low in 4500 miles and the dealer said, that's normal... WTF 19961 miles total, 800 on this oil change which is the start of an oil consumption test with the dealer. The dealer told me the oil light won't come on until about 2 to 2.5 qts low due to the increased capacity and the design of the oil pan... that's news to me but OK Today coming home, the oil low light came on, remember 800 miles since they changed it a few months back. Well good timing since it's going to the dealer on Tues to look at the transmission... 3 times now, while idling along on the freeway between 12-15 mph, just barely touch the gas and the tranny and the engine get out of sync between RMS and the gear the tranny wants... doesn't sound or feel right So far, I can't repro it and they said, well if we can't repo it, we will kick it back, at least it will be documented

Well clearly I wasn't asked to do anything between 1k mile visits. In fact, he told me several time to not remove the dip stick or the oil cap, do not add oil, just come in every 1k miles. I'm not liking where I think this will end up, only time will tell Rick

I picked up the truck yesterday, new oil change to start a consumption test, was told, don't remove the dip stick or the oil cap...talked to them again about what is acceptable. He told me, 1 qt/1k miles, I asked about miles vs. gals and he again said it's based on miles. He then stated that GM will very likely say 2.5 qts in 4500 miles is within specs, however, it's up to GMC Next I asked about why the oil light didn't even come on at 2.5 qts low, he said on this truck, it needs to be 3 qts low for the light to come on, to me, that's also BS Oh well, consumption test started, I won't be doing much towing until Mar when we head back to Tennessee, then the miles will rack up quickly

Hello all 2021 2500 HD Gas, towing a 30' TT with 2 - lead acid batteries Trailer has a 160W solor panel on the roof and between the solar and the truck, the TT batteries continue to loose charge throughout a travel day due to the 12v refrigerator (mainly) and a few other parasitic draws that can't be turned off. When driving, I notice the truck volt meter generally sits right at ~12v, the trailer batteries do not show as being charged. When the volt meter shows closer to 14v, then the trailer batteries show as charging. The higher charging voltage isn't enough to overcome the 12v refer draw. A few questions * Is my truck battery weak so the alternator is spending more time trying to keep it changed before sending power to the trailer? * Is the BMS bad and not switching when the truck battery is charged? * Is it possible to install a second battery in the truck and wire it to provide more consistent power to the trailer while sill getting charged from the alternator? (I'm grasping here) As we know, draining lead acid batteries effectively kills them and on long travel days, they are quite low I'm also considering adding another solar panel to the trailer however that only helps to partially solve the issue Thoughts? Hello again Towing speeds for the first 7 weeks was 59-61 on cruise. The last 2 days we drove 1100 miles so speeds were up quite a bit. 70-75 is very comfortable for this rig, but I don't do it generally, wanted to get home that's for sure. We pull a 30TT, Gran Design Imagine, don't have exact weight but it's not maxed out I don't do anything to "lock out the over drive gears", not sure I understand what you are referring to actually. If you mean to move to manual and run in 4th, no I don't do that. If I did my rough math right, 4500 miles, let's say average 7mpg (when pulling on a good day I get 8.5), that's 643 gals of fuel and I put in 2.5 Qts, that would be 1 Qt every 257 gals of fuel. Seems way below what the service bulletin seems to state. Couple questions here (yes I will ask the dealer when it goes in on Monday) * Why is the dealer wanting to do a consumption test with these numbers (he never asked about gals used, nor did he tell me about the service bulletin) * For the test, he said it needs to be brought in every 1k miles, if they go by gals, why use miles for the test?
