  1. Before I switched to RP and Shell Nitro+, I was burning a quart around every oil change interval or sometimes 1,000 - 1,500 miles with cheaper synthetic oil and regular 87 octain fuel. New vehicles today I think, are designed to fail and it's almost like a second job to keep up with this stuff. I kind of enjoy it though. LOL Crazy. It's important to note that the extra money I spend on the fuel and oil is money that is save from the problems that will result from burning oil in the combustion chamber and circulating fuel and carbon in the crankcase over time. To me, adding a quart over and over is like slapping coat after coat of paint on a rotting house frame. I know vehicles have always burned oil, but the amount of money these vehicles cost today is a different story.
  2. I second this and it's so important with your particular engine... The L8T is a high performance engine and should be treated as such. The oil and gas mixture is critical in keeping piston blow-by at bay. I was burning oil in mine until I started using royal purple and puting 93Oct Shell with VPower Nitro in the tank. 3 oil changes later at 5,000 mile intervals and I am not burning any oil. The oil and the gas are modified to work together at detination, in order to create a molecular seal at the piston rings. This way, the oil is not getting into the combustion chamber and the fuel is not seeping past the rings into the crankcase. That particular oil also keeps the rings squeeky clean. This is a big deal if your putting a stressfull load on your engine. On another note, I run a Berryman Products 2611 Intake Valve and Combustion Chamber Cleaner, 16-Ounce Aerosol through the throttle body every 20,000. Just to keep the valves from gunking up.
  3. This is sad to see. I hope this helps you. I talked to a high performance auto tech and it changed the way I look at oil on the market nowadays. Look at this post I made.
  4. I change my oil every 5,000 miles. I pull a 4,000LB trailer with my 2021 2500HD. I'm weighing around 13,000Lbs total, loaded, according to a CAT scale. I started to notice right after break-in period that the oil level would drop 1Qt every time I pulled my trailer a little over 1,000 miles. I used Pensoil Platinum Synth 5W30. After talking to a local performance tech that specializes in oil performance as well; at 20,000 miles, I decided to change my oil to Royal Purple High Perfromance just to see if I saw a difference. BIG difference. I am no longer burning oil. I have changed my oil twice with no loss. I just changed it a week ago at 30K, pulled my trailer from SE Louisiana to St Augustine, Florida, back and forth to Jacksonville twice and back to Louisiana; around 1,400 miles.... I might have burned 1cup. We're talking from JUST above the full line to the full line. The oil was checked with the truck level, cold each time I checked it. I need to add; even though the oil is probably the biggest culprit and YES, oil is a sealant in it's function and properties, but I also use nothing but Shell V Nitro premium fuel. They actually add a chemical modification that works with the oil, preventing oil degradation at the piston rings that help with wear protection. Check this video out for details on that: Shell even advertise that it protects against engine wear. I would love to hear what you think.
  5. Yeah. I misquoted. I typically add up to a quart between oil changes. I change the oil and filter with 8.5Qts.
  6. I have a 2021 6.6L Gas 2500HD. It's burning 1Qt per 5,000 miles, whether or not pulling/hauling 6,000 pounds (Loaded Camper & Truck). I've got 15,900 miles on it now. I do my own oil changes. I go through 8.5Qt Full Syn with GM filter per change every 5,000 miles.
