So a few days have passed since the Dealership replaced my 2 switches. They told me they would reschedule a paint department so they can fix the scratches on the tailgate. They still have not got that done. I am wondering since this is obviously a recurring problem for GMC and CHEV trucks, eventually a class action lawsuit will result. I looked at an older GMC truck and there are no holes in the handle area of the tailgate. Are there any owners with older trucks having same problem out there?

So I have a 2021 GMC Sierra Denali 3500 with approximately 35K miles. This same problem came up about 8 months ago when the tailgate opened on its own overnight in my garage. In the morning, I opened the garage door and heard squealing sound of the metal in the overhead garage door hitting and scraping the tailgate that had opened sometime in the night. There were minor scratches as a result. I took it in to get it fixed under warrantee. The dealer tried to find the problem but ended up replacing the switch on the tailgate. They buffed the scratches except for one scratch that they could not. I was going on a major trip so I accepted their half-ass solution leaving a almost new 80k truck with a small scratch due to no fault of mine..... Now 8 months later, its doing it again. This is what having a flagship vehicle from GM is like.... So as a follow-up: I took it to a dealer and while I was talking to the manager and my service advisor to explain what was happening, the Truck started clicking the door handle relay repeatedly while flashing the backup lights as if it was possessed. At least they saw firsthand what the problem was! After explaining that few months ago, both the switches were replaced for the same problem, I left hoping they will find something concrete. I even suggested they replace the entire harness going from the switch to the Engine Bay this time. Next day picked up the truck. Was told by the Manager that they changed both switches and that I should reschedule an appointment to fix the paint scratches on the rear door caused by the door hitting my Garage door when it opened on its own.
