Dealer installed this recall on my 23 Suburban RST on 11/19, yesterday on 1/9 the infotainment got totally bricked following an OTA update - "Update failed. See dealer to restore system". I never get any OTA warnings or anything and I did not see one yesterday - it just did it and bricked infotainment and all fancy systems - including adaptive cruise, temp sensors, turn signal sounds, etc.
Car is barely 2k out of warranty and the recall was installed literally on my last "warranty visit" to the dealer and included Serial Data Gateway module reprogramming and Radio updates. And it was supposed to "improve future over the air updates". So basically Chevy pushed an update on my out of warranty car thus bricking it - and I'm now told I'll have to replace the infotainment system ($1400 plus labor). And even if I buy that darn infotainment off a junkyard I'll still have to go to the dealer to program it as there's no way to DIY that.
Total Scam by GM. we ALL should disable OTA immediately - but the dealer tells me there's no way to do it! So even after shelling out $2K+ for repairs I'll still be leaving in a car that can be bricked at any moment by a Chevy pushed OTA update.
