  1. Thank you for your reply, but what does mean? I have removed the actual ignition switch so I’m still able to start the vehicle and turn it off manually that way. I should’ve also mentioned that the steering wheel doesn’t lock anymore. It’s like the truck still thinks it is in gear park. thanks
  2. Hello, after having this truck for 24 years, someone tried stealing my pride and joy a 2001 Silverado 1500 z71. they removed the plastic shroud around the ignition and put a screwdriver in the key cylinder cylinder. So I had to carefully drill out the key cylinder and I replaced it. However, the key cylinder won’t turn all the way back to shut the car completely off. I believe this has to do with the Ignition lock system so someone cannot remove the key when the truck is still drive. I noticed the white clip on the ignition control lock cable was missing in the ignition housing but I put it back in and it still doesn’t seem to work. I followed a cable to the steering column, and I see it connected behind the metal shafts when you move the gear leaver. It appears there is a little ball at the end of it, but when I move it to drive and park, it doesn’t seem to do anything. I really think this cable is the culprit because when I remove the white clip and move it in and out, it does seem to allow the key to move back a little bit more. any ideas? I don’t want to have to remove the steering wheel it’s does drive and shift fine and the P lights up when in park. any help y’all can give is truly appreciated.
