Hello, after having this truck for 24 years, someone tried stealing my pride and joy a 2001 Silverado 1500 z71.
they removed the plastic shroud around the ignition and put a screwdriver in the key cylinder cylinder. So I had to carefully drill out the key cylinder and I replaced it. However, the key cylinder won’t turn all the way back to shut the car completely off. I believe this has to do with the Ignition lock system so someone cannot remove the key when the truck is still drive. I noticed the white clip on the ignition control lock cable was missing in the ignition
housing but I put it back in and it still doesn’t seem to work.
I followed a cable to the steering column, and I see it connected behind the metal shafts when you move the gear leaver. It appears there is a little ball at the end of it, but when I move it to drive and park, it doesn’t seem to do anything.
I really think this cable is the culprit because when I remove the white clip and move it in and out, it does seem to allow the key to move back a little bit more.
any ideas? I don’t want to have to remove the steering wheel
it’s does drive and shift fine and the P lights up when in park.
any help y’all can give is truly appreciated.
