I'm in the same boat with the 2014 GMC Sierra Crew Cab long bed I just inherited from my brother. I had a local independent garage put the tag on the front for me (required in my state) and a few months later I noticed the self tapping screws he used are majorly loose---he just attached to the plastic section underneath the chrome bumper, which I told him to put it there, didn't want to drill in the metal bumper and start rust, but I expected him to use small bolts/nuts.
