Hey guys, Looking at getting a 6.6 gasser. 2020-2023 offer the 6L90 and 2024-2025 have the "Allison" but not Allison 10 speed. I don't have to have the latest and greatest or the fastest, just want something reliable. I had a 1500 with the 6L80 and had the typical converter issues around 100k miles. Do not want to see anything like that in the 6L90. The 10 speeds seem to have their quirks, and aren't even a true Allison, which is a disappointment. Basically, a 6 speed that has been around for years (6L90) or a newer updated trans that has not been out long enough to show reliability (10L1000). Thoughts?

Hey I have 120k miles trucks torque converter has been progressively gotten worse with the shuttering. I believe it’s time for a rebuild. I now have heard a knocking/tapping sound that is so light and high pitch I can’t hear it on video. I changed my oil about 100 miles ago and since have heard this sound coming from the oil pan/bell housing area also heard lightly infront of the truck. Does it at idle and in neutral. Not sure if it does it in drive or under load the sound is not sequential with the engines rotation. Could this be my converter? I’ve heard lifter failure and lifter knocking in my previous 5.3 trucks and it’s not like that at all. More out of time and random. If in park and I give it a little throttle the sound gets a little louder but still not in sequence with the engine. Almost a light popping sound more than a knock. Any help would be great before I spend the money on a trans and then have to turn around and rebuild the engine.

In 2020 I purchased a new Silverado 2500HD. Vehicle has the GAS 6.6L Engine. It recently had it's second Oil Change and Service. Vehicle ONLY has 6,500 miles on it. Now it has a knocking noise when idling. I took it back tot he dealer where I purchased it. They have had it for over a week. Initially told they had no idea what the noise was. They were communicating directly with GM to diagnose the issue. As of now they have replaced engine bearings and dropped the Oil Pan with no loose or metal particles in the Oil. With all of that said and done the noise is still present and they are waiting for further instructions from GM. Just curious if anyone else has had this issue?

Did my second oil change on the truck last night and first one I did myself. 11,760 miles and 10% OLM after having it changed at 5,000 miles at the dealer for the 1st free oil change and service. Underneath the truck it was nice and wide open and the oil plug points down better than my last Silverado. 15 mm socket for the oil drain plug. Oil filter was also easy to change with my 3 prong oil filter wrench. Reaching into the engine bay was a stretch to hold my funnel and pour in the oil. I need a different funnel and it will be easier. 8 quarts of Mobil1 full synthetic Dexos 5W-30 and AC Delco PF63E oil filter. Tire rotation this weekend. This will be the first of many oil changes at home for this truck. In 3 days will be a year from when I took it for my first test drive and bought it a week later.
