  1. Truck started to make a squeaking noise this weekend, took it to the dealership on Monday. Dealership called Tuesday and said that they could not find anything wrong with the truck and that this sound is normal. Take a look at this video so that you can hear and understand what I am talking about. https://youtu.be/aERzjGAX-aU Does this sound normal to you guys? I also put water on the belt and the noise was persistent so it does not appear to be the belt. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  2. 2017 chevy 1500 z71 5.3L LT AFM... if you own one or considered owning one youll want to know common issues ive experienced. if you service these vehicles or are a GM fantic keep reading. 1) first issue at 3,000 ish miles: wet skid olate drivers side lower engine and or noise. This is a faulty air pump. Had to have mine replaced. 2) second issue around 10k miles. Rattle in exhaust on vehicle cold start. This is poor quality cat coverters. The cat back exhaust needs replaced. 3) third issue and very frustrating issue at 41k miles.. failed hydraulic lifters on AFM cylinders. Rattle tapping squeal dry bearing noise mainly on start up and under load. My engine has developed failed lifters and oil starving cam bearings on bank 2. I use mobil1 and change my oil every 5k miles. I used high flow mobile 1 oil filter and recently chaged to the stock delco filter and after running stock oem filter 3k miles after using this oem filter i now have a minimal of 2 failed lifters and cam bearings that are squealing for lack of lubrication. I have now found this is a common issue on the 2017 5.3L AFM vehicles. Im a long time ASE tech that owns 3 repair shops and a towing company. I have never misused my vehicle and never even exceeded 4k rpm. I bought truck brand new and have done all the services personally and ahead of maintenance schedule. I never tow haul or the like ect. This is a huge concern as this is my first new vehicle purchase ever. I jist want everyone considering this yr model to strongly reconsider until GM steps up ad fixes or recalls this issue. This is a 50000 dollar truck new paid cash and now without my beloved truck over poor quality design of AFM. i am a wholehearted GM fanatic and i own over 12 gm vehicles. Never had a serious issue as described here. SO IF YOU hear a light tap tick knock or squeal noise coming from your heads THIS is also your issue as well. COME ON GM I URGE A REDESIGN OF YOUR AFM ON THE 5.3L . the truck has always had hesitation lack of power and VERY rough idle since brand new. This is a TRUCK not a toyta prius. We want power and reliability not sacrifice this for 2 mpg fuel economy! Do away with AFM as this ruins an engine in no time flat. What were they thinking when they decided an engine that randomly switches from v8 to v4 mode would be in ANY WAY good for a combustion engine. 4 cylinders work continuously and 4 work only intermittently this throws off engine balance and destroys internal components! I would NOT have bought a new truck from chevy had i known it had the AFM and i hope this is a lesson for all who consider it. Im not saying to run out and buy a Ford because hell those are just piles of scrap metal im jist saying stay away from 2017 AFM 5.3L v8.
  3. I've owned my 2018 Silverado for less than 6 weeks and it has been making a squeaking noise coming from the engine compartment, once the engine is warmed up. Does anyone know what could be causing this? I have an appointment to have it looked at by the dealer but I'm assuming the dealership won't be able to tell me whats wrong based on passed experience. I'll try to include a short video below where you can here the squeking noise.
  4. I've always wanted to know what this sound was and how to get rid of it, but I didnt want to ask cause I dont wanna sound like a moron. It only happens at low rpm. It's almost like a deep gurgling sound. I have a 2018 5.3, and my 2015 5.3 sounded the same. So what the heck is it and how do you get rid of it? I'm wondering if its the giant batman air intake? Will the Airaid MIT take care of it? Its starting to drive me nuts.
  5. I have this reoccurring noise that is coming from the engine bay when the engine is ON. My basic limited warranty has expired but I believe my power train warranty is still in effect. Click the link below to view the video. The noise comes and goes like every couple of seconds and lasts for about 1-2 sec. It’s a high pitch squeal. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! 2015 GMC Sierra Denali approaching 56k miles. Original owner. https://share.icloud.com/photos/0K7vn2ly2lV9sWlKoEDhSwbYA#Menlo_Park_&_Home
  6. Hello all, I am new here and yesterday I posted some questions that I really need help with in 2 locations because I didn't know where to post them correctly. Consequently, I never got any answers maybe because the admin deleted them both. My bad, I honestly didn't know where the right place was. So here are a couple of my primary concerns with this truck, if anyone can help I would appreciate it... The dealer had my truck for 6 days to replace a broken dash piece and to troubleshoot driving issues. During the test drive, the service (manager?) stomped the gas to the floor and we both heard a metallic sound, he repeated it numerous times and the sound always came back. To me it sounded like a couple of lifters that were about to shoot out from under the hood. We went back to the dealership where I was asked to wait while he and the shop foreman went for a drive. When they returned I was told that it was "just and exhaust noise" and it was "perfectly normal". They insisted I take a drive with the shop foreman even though we all agreed that I feel issues that they believe to be normal for this vehicle, so the test drive was pointless. Nonetheless, we drove. I showed how when I step on the gas to take off the engine seems to bog down and lack throttle response, I also showed how at each and every stop the truck shakes like it is having an epileptic fit. The explanation I got was that this was the active fuel management system just doing its job and it was "perfectly normal". Call me crazy but I just can't wrap my head around a new vehicle of any type, but especially not a 54K vehicle shaking like crazy, rattling under heavy throttle and lacking the power to get out of its own way to be "perfectly normal". But maybe I am wrong, any thoughts or advice would be super appreciated. Thanks
  7. Well my new 2014 AT has been added to the list of problem trucks... The day I picked it up I noticed that there was a whine coming from the engine, being an excited new owner I told myself it must be breaking in, ya right... Anyway, fast forward to this past Monday, at just over 2,000 miles I dropped it off at the dealer to have them look into the whining noise which had not gone away. Its going on day three and they haven't found the cause yet. All they know so far is that it is in the engine so today they are digging in they tell me. They ran the truck yesterday with the belt off to try to isolate thee issue and found that the noise continued and did not change. Fingers crossed. Anyone else getting a whining noise when first started for the day? Sounds like a Ford's power steering pump. Matt
