Well I"ve read quite a few post about power steering problems and fixes. As a former gm mechanic I'm a little frustrated to say the least. I've never been test and guess and hate to start now. Plus at my age don't really want to perform either repair. Pump or Gear. So lets start. The steering has been a little strange since new (2004 GMC sierra crew 5.3L gas) noisy grumpy at times when turning, but not a power steering whine. All of the sudden power steering starts whining and groaning like crazy and almost no power steering , kind of comes and goes between real bad and no assist at all. Works better at high rpm, but still very noisy and fluid is aerated/bubbles. Let set and start cold, no noise and steering works for a few seconds then gets air, goes noisy and back to where I started. Flushed the system and if anything worse now. Pumped fluid out like crazy when I flushed it. Could I have a bad cooler or air getting into system? No Leaks. I was going to hook up my old ps tester, but can't find adapters for the thing to metric. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I recently inherited a 2002 Silverado 1500 Standard cab 4.8L 4x4 manual NV3500 transmission. It has 208k miles on it. My oldest son is 14 and we plan to restore it so he'll have something to drive when he gets his license. It drives very nicely. There's some slop in the front end and I expect it's due a pitman and idler arm, ball joints, and probably tie rod ends. Aside from that, the only thing that concerns me is shifting from 2nd to 3rd. It's really hard to find 3rd gear, and when I do it takes a little force to get it in there. Downshifting from 4th to 3rd is smooth. Any ideas as to the cause and fix?

I live in New York and this morning the temp read 16 degrees in the truck. I noticed the steering was noticeably stiffer. Even after a 10 minute remote start and 15 minutes of driving it continued to feel this way. When I left work in the late afternoon is was 26 degrees and the steering felt the same as it did in the morning. I've lived in NY my whole life and never experienced this in any other car I've owned. Being it's my first winter with my truck I have to ask-does anyone else experience this or is my issue completely unrelated to the weather?

Hello, and regards to everyone, im new to this forum, but have had my truck for a year now, it has 21,000 km or 13,000 miles. The truck suspension feels like having Wood Blocks instead of springs. I have already swapped all 4 shock absorbers for Bilstein 5100s, and had marginal improvement in ride quality I have swapped all four tires for 285-70-17 BFGs KO2, and run them at 32psi, and had marginal improvement in ride quality I have a GoRhino front winch bumper with lights, so Im running with extra weight on the front, but it doesn't really help Even when im towing or hauling heavy stuff, still feels like crap, so adding weight doesn't really help The truck´s ride still doesn't feel good after all that I have done to it, it all shakes like a skateboard, the cab and everything in it, even with the smallest road imperfection, not to mention bigger bumps or dirt roads, to the point that I don't know what to do now... When im off roading I have to lower tires to 25psi front and 15psi back to make the ride tolerable. I know people have been experiencing the same, but haven't read a definitive fix on it, can anyone shine any help on it? The truck seems to be smoothing marginally with time, but maybe im just getting used to it LOL Thanks in advance!
