  1. This topic is exactly what I have been contemplating for months, as well. My truck is old, so there is no comparing to anything, even the trucks most of you are trading in. But it's a low mileage, super clean, good running truck, and it does what I need a truck to do. That said, if I were to replace it, I would seriously consider the Ram 1500. I do like F-150's, and the ecoboost has proven to be a great engine, but the interior fit and finish of the Ram's is a notch above both GM and Ford. And it is priced lower than either. Some tell me not to buy the Ram as they have too many problems, but I bought a new Jeep GC in 2014 and have had zero problems with it. None. It's got the 8 speed ZF trans, multi-function screen with Nav, radio, heat/AC controls, bkluetooth, etc. It all works and always has. I would think FCA would be improving on what they've been building for years, so I'm not convinced that they don't build a reliable truck. So I would say if the trucks looks, comfort and handling suit you, and the numbers are good, I think I'd go for it.

  3. jaslo, the guy I bought the truck from lives 4 houses down the street, and I go past his house every day. I didn't even know he had truck; all I ever saw him driving was his Suburban, or his wife''s Cadilac. I paid him what the dealer was going to give him in trade on a new Escalade; $9k. Probably too much, but it was always stored in the garage; battery disconnected unless he wanted to use it. Even the underside was as clean as any showroom vehicle. I've put about 10k miles on in the 18 months I've owned it, and it has been trouble-free.
  4. Bought the truck in October with actual mileage of 20k. Flushed trans, new filter and synthetic fluid, and added a few upgrades: backup camera, Blue-Ox tow lugs (for flat towing behind an RV), replaced the center jump-seat with a full size center console, and installed a non-slip bedliner. Truck now has about 26k; looks and runs good. Got a question for anyone here who may know: I've often heard comment some owners make, re a 'tick' in the engine. Is that caused by a bad hydraulic lifter? Have center jumpseat (gray leather) in like-new condition, available for sale.
  5. Thanks fot the reply. I'll be changing the rest of the fluids next week, and will inspect the belt. Since I don't know much about these GM's yet, I'd like to know if mine (a 2000 Sierra, 5.3) has the dreaded AFM? I'm thinking that it came out in a later model year.
  6. Until 2 weeks ago, I haven't had a GM product for more than 20 years. Neighbor up the street was selling his 2000 4WD 1500 Sierra SLT, extended cab. He bought it new, and pretty much left it set in his garage, as he has a Yukon and Suburban. When I heard he was going to sell, I went up to take a look. Has only 20k miles; that's original. HD suspension; trailer towing package; lots more. I didn't really need another truck, but the interior, exterior, and even the under-carriage, all looks new. I bought it. I put on a new set of Michelin's; though the old tires had plenty tread left, but they were 15 years old. The mounted spare has never been down. That's still under there. I changed oil and filter; rear brakes were dragging and overheating, so I replaced calipers, pads, and had the rotor/drums turned, then flushed the system. Brakes are good now. Windshield washer doesn't work; probably a bad pump. Gonna check that this weekend. Everything else works as it should. What else should I be looking for, or concerned about? I'd like to hear the good and bad about this model truck.
