It has been several weeks since my module change and software update. Here is what I observed, the regular fm reception is not as good as other vehicles including older GM trucks. The HD is improved but still has a limited range in hilly areas(upstate SC). In talking at length with my service manager the short coming of this radio are why it is not offered in 2015. I wonder if there is an after market radio and has anyone installed it and has it improved reception?

If you are having problems with the dealer call GM infoteam support (the number is in your manual) they will give you a problem number and even contact the dealer for you. They will help to get you past the "can't duplicate problem".

Talked at length to service manager yesterday, There is no upgrade on antenna cable at this time. New hardware and software did not improve HD reception in my truck but did improve regular FM reception(but still not as good as 2010 Silverado which I traded). Asked service manager to look into antenna cable with GM.

Have left message at dealer, I wonder if all Sierra/Silverado trucks use same antenna cable with different radios?

Update. After having the latest hardware installed with the software update here is what I found. No changed in HD radio reception, still switches back to regular FM with static and background noise. Still spends a lot of time acquiring HD signal. Regular FM reception has improved a little. Reception in my wife's 4runner is much better as was the reception in my 2010 Silverado which I traded. The upgrades have improved the radio reception in my truck on regular FM. As I stated in an earlier post I believe the reason GM is dropping the HD radio in the 2015 trucks is that at this time they do not have a solution to the reception problem. At least GM and my dealer made an effort to fix the problem in my truck.

After talking with the service manager while they were working on my truck I believe that the dealers and the different departments at GM are not communicating with each other. They recognize that there is a problem with the radio but I don't think they know how to fix it, which is why they are dropping the hd radio from the 2015 trucks. I have been watching the performance of the radio closely and I believe the problem is when the radio determines the hd signal is not strong enough and switches back to regular fm with static and background noise. I also have observed that it takes a long time to lock on to an HD signal. I drove a loaner(gm traverse)with a colortouch radio and the HD worked perfectly. Since I have a new radio module and the software update the problem may be in the antenna cable. If someone has information on an alternative cable please post the info and I will see If GM and the dealer will try it on my truck. Can someone post a picture of the antenna cable.

just got back from a short drive. No improvement in HD reception, regular FM may be a little better. I now have the latest radio with the latest update. Has any tried to change the antenna wire? Is there an aftermarket antenna wire?

Just got back from dealer, have not driven enough to give new radio a fair test. Was told by service manager that I received a new radio and that It was the most current in production and updates. Tjay here is the info off the ticket. Install sop radio, J#10cdz001. called TAC ok from rep to replace radio, Rep. has radio ordered. Replaced radio and programmed. My XM radio ID is different.

Having new radio installed tomorrow morning, GM called me today after talking with dealer, have early build truck not sure if they are putting in a.different radio module then others have had installed. This module has taken a long time to get in over ten days, and I wonder if it has a fix installed in it. Person from GM was confident that it would at last fix the problem. I pointed out to him that they had dropped this radio from the 2015's. He said that this should improve reception. Will post results.

Gm and dealer are going to try a fix on my truck, They are going to replace parts(don't know what part only that it is on order and will be at dealer next week). I don't have any more info at this time but will post what was done and if it worked as soon as I get truck repaired.

Just received a call from GM. The person that had been so helpful to try to fix the radio issue(since January) is no longer handling my concern. Nothing against the new person but I believe that I am back to square one. The new person had no knowledge of my concern other then it was a radio issue. I have lost all hope of having the radio reception repaired.

Talked with GM rep today, they are going to consult with their engineers and get back in touch with me.

I have early build date and had update on Wednesday. Unfortunately no improvement in FM reception. Will contact GM and dealer to see if they install new module.

Just got back from dealer, received software update. Truck is early build, they did not change the module. I have a route that I drove yesterday and observed radio performance, I will drive it tomorrow and post results, Service manager also interested in results, wants me to evaluate results before calling others in for update. I have to give credit to both GM and the dealer, I believe at this time they are both interested in resolving this issue.

Truck goes to dealer Wednesday morning for radio upgrade, will keep you posted.

I contacted GM back in the winter, they will give you a person that will listen to your concerns and give you a 12 digit number that you will use to stay in contact. The person helping me was very nice and I believe she cared about my problem. Then she is in contact with the service manager at the dealer and the staff in technical support. She is going to contact me on Tuesday and I will post all of the details on this site when I have more info. The good news is a last there is a fix coming.

GM is working with my dealer to schedule FM radio reception improvement. It should be this week, I will post info and results as soon as I get the truck back.

TJay74 thanks for all of your work to resolve our reception problems. You also have a dealer that is willing to work on the problem, could you post the name of the dealer that has been will to work with you. Thanks.

I have had the problem with FM reception for ten months. Called GM and got a my issue recorded, made a video for the dealer, taken my truck back to the dealer many times. I believe it is an issue of mind over matter. They don't mind because I don't matter. It is not a safety concern and they do not seem to understand how irritating this is to many of us. Last time I called the service manager to ask about this he did not even return my call.
-
TJay once again thanks, do you have XM and if so did you have to contact them to have it reinstalled?
-
Tjay74 I appreciate all of your efforts, With out your help I don't believe the radio repair would have progressed to this point. Thanks
-
Still have not heard back from service manager( called and left message on Friday) Just reinforces that GM and the dealer are not concerned about this problem. I guess I am not even worth a return phone call.
-
Left message for service manager on Friday, received another recall letter(transmission leak) tired of not having FM reception and having to drive 20 miles one way and waste half of the day on another recall. I am so unhappy with GM. Trans recall has been out since March and I had truck in to dealer for oil change two weeks ago. Asked about FM reception during oil change was told no news from GM. Toyota Tundra or F-150 looking better and better.
-
TJay74 I appreciate all that you have done, I have been having this problem since I bought my truck in September. All I am asking of GM and the dealer is to admit that there is a problem and that they will repair it. Either the dealer is not being truthful with me or GM is not being truthful with the dealer. Sad thing is except for the audio system I like my truck.
-
My dealer stated that Gm said that they have not had concerns about FM radio problems, that my problem is normal for the radio. GM told me that they are working on the problem but it will take time to correct( that was last year). Have heard nothing from dealer or GM. I believe that they sold the vehicle, got their profit, and since it is not a safety concern they just don't care. I hate to be negative but the facts speak for them selfs.
