I also thought of Yukon or Tahoe... but read those threads, no different really... ride quality issues, noisy cabs too, all for $20,000 plus more $$$.... -
Shake or Vibration Issues
mundfund replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
I googled... Ford has known vibration issues as well !!! http://www.f150forum.com/esp_search.php?query=2015+vibration&type=gcs A posted Ford F150 Post example: 2015 f150 fx4 vibration-help Hello, trying to get an issue resolved. I purchased a brand new F150 lariat supercrew 4x4 with 3.5 ecoboost. Had a 2hr drive home from dealer and noticed a vibration seemed to be coming mostly from the rear of the truck. Took it next few days to local ford dealer and they said two tires in rear had flat spots and they needed to order. I picked the truck up to drive until tires arrived two days later and during the road force balance on the first visit they must have moved the rear tires to the front because the vibration had shifted and I could feel it more in the steering than before. Two days later: They changed out the two tires and vibration seemed reduced at times but was not gone. I left the following day on a 600 mi highway trip pulling a utility trailer with polaris, so slightly weighted, and the vibration was multiplied the entire trip (frustrating to say the least for a $55k truck), at speeds any where from 50-up mph. Returned from trip and dropped off the truck for two days with a result of they couldn't duplicate the problem (absolute BS), they then proceeded to explain to me that if I only have 1 window down and not two it causes a shuttering effect inside the cab and feels like a vibration....really?! Another few days and continued vibration I stopped by dealer unannounced and the service manager took a ride with me since I had a trailer behind me and the vibration was magnified. He was obviously way to be busy for my issue, noticed by his lack of communication and smug demeanor. His tune changed slightly when he could "barely feel it". He explained he is going to order two more tires and road force balance then to let him know if it persists. One drive on the highway and it was obvious it was still there. I want to note the last thing I want is to spend days on end at ford service. I'm just wanting a vibrating free truck. I am now scheduled for Tuesday 13th to take the truck back in to swap tires back and ???. I'm thinking drive shaft, rotors?? I pulled the utility trailer again yesterday and horrible shaking around 55mph then settles down at some speeds and increases in others. I have now made video of the vibration on the inside as well as the vibration at the transfer case and the rear diff during highway speeds when shaking is at its worst with a gopro camera, hoping the service manager will actually review it to get some idea of what's happening. Just turned 3400mi....Any ideas guys?? -

I test drove (2) 2015 GMC Sierra Denali's this eve, both 20" wheels, both with Goodyear tires... both vibrated, one less than the other but still apparent. So..... I drove past a Ford Dealer, I though what the hell... I'll go in and see. I told the sales guy that I am a longtime GM guy, but disgruntled over the ride quality due to vibration on many trucks i've driven and previously owned Silverado. He says... "Well you're going to be a Ford guy once you drive this..." Pointing to a truck I selected, a 2015 F-150 Lariat SuperCrew 4X4. It looked beautiful, double moonroof, black on black, 20" wheels (Goodyear raised white letter tires) retracting side step, loaded, and nice. It had the 3.5 v6, i'm a v8 guy but was only there to road test. The 3.5 was pretty zippy, acceleration was good, the ride was quite, then I approached my road test area. I drive this road daily, 70mph speed limit, varying surfaces such as concrete, smooth black top, some rougher asphalt. This has been my test drive strip, about 10 miles of intermittent surface. I will tell you... this F150 Vibrated WORSE than any Chevy or GMC thus far... I felt it at 60, increasing to 70, shook like crazy at 80... I heard things in the cab vibrating, rattling, and the passenger seat next to me vibrated BAD! I held my phone up steadily, not rested against anything and it's very apparent as to the vibration! (Can I post video's here, or link to youtube?) By far the worst shaking vehicle thus far. I told the sales guy about it... "well maybe it's just the road?" NO... It's not the road! "Well Ford balances the tires at the plant, they put stickers on each wheel showing that". "Would you like to try another one"... No Thank You! I left... I am striking out with getting a truck thus far. I have one Chevy dealer still trying to work on a truck that I want to purchase, I know the service manager went to several meetings at the GM Tech Center in Warren MI to discuss things, not just with my truck, but with others as well. I have not heard anything yet. Sad.. the ride quality of these trucks, Ford also, with the technology that we have today... we tweaked, changed, redesigned, "improved" these trucks with young college kid designers and engineers stripping quality right out of the equation! They look good, but they ride like sh*t! -

I drove (2) loaded up 2015 High Country's at separate dealers.... one with the 5.3L and 20" wheels (Goodyear LS2) and the other with a 6.2L 22" wheels (Bridgestone Dueler)... BOTH VIBRATE! The dealer with the High Country (20" Goodyear LS2's) told me that they cannot do ANYTHING for 500 miles, GM won't allow anything to be touched, altered until the vehicle has 500 miles on it.... I said, well I won't allow myself to buy a truck that vibrates! They have since, in front of me called the GM rep who allowed the tires to be swapped, they also brought the computer and vibration sensors along... still vibrates! Another set of tires (still Goodyear LS2's) still vibrates...!!! However, as the service manager stated "it's within GM spec's" BS, I said, what a convenient set of parameters they are set to use. Explain the vibration? (I had an issue with my 2011, for 30,000 miles Goodyear LS2's on it, "ohh you had a bad tire, we swapped it out"... but it still vibrates, "yeah, don't know, all seems good on our end"... same crap, for 30,000 miles! I decided to chance it and threw Michelins LTX M/S 2'S on it... it rode like a Cadillac! For the 2011, it took care of ALL vibration.) The High Country with the 20" wheels and Goodyear LS2's... Do I want to buy new tires for a New Truck that has new Tires... Hell No! If I buy new tires, the Michelins LTX M/S2's and it does not resolve the vibration... I am out $900. If it did resolve, then beautiful... but I just spent $900 on new tires for a new truck that had new tires. CRAZINESS. The High Country 6.2L with the 22" wheels, that dealer claimed "yeah we pulled the truck into service, ALL 4 wheels were out of balance, we even found one questionable Bridgestone Dueler so we swapped it out for a new one. We road tested, you're good to go... come on in and test drive it!" I did, still vibrates at 60+ worse as I got up to 80mph. I can't do this... I can't spend this kind of money on this garbage! This isn't a new invention GM, "pick up trucks" have been around for nearly a century! You can't get this sh*t right?!?! I had these issues with my 2011 bought in December of 2010. -

Getting very discouraged with my new truck shopping! GM... Get your Sh*t together! I had a 2011 LT All Star with 20" wheels..... for 30,000 of its miles I had a bad vibration with it, smooth road vibration! It had the Goodyear LS2's on it, through the course of time I had several tires replaced by the dealer, didn't resolve! I eventually said screw it and put Michelin LTX M/S2's on it... it not only solved the vibration issue, the truck rode impeccably! I now loved my truck! I kept it for another 16 months. Not a vibration at ANY speed whatsoever! I sold my 2011 nearly a month ago... I am in the process of searching for a replacement. This is the discouraging part.... I found (2) 2015 Silverado's that appear to me, both High Country models, one of them with the chrome 20" wheels (yes, with the garbage Goodyear LS2's & the 5.3 6spd trans, the other truck with GM's 22" wheels that have Bridgestone Duelers on them & the 6.2 8spd trans. I demanded that I road test them on the expressway, on varying pavement types... THEY BOTH HAVE VIBRATION ISSUES ON SMOOTH PAVEMENT! The 20" Goodyear LS2's being the worst! A $56,000 MSRP truck, the $62,000 MSRP truck vibrates as well.... not as bad! I highway drive, this is insanity.... I need a truck, the current incentives are expiring this Friday July 31, 2015... who knows what August will bring. Who knows if I do buy, if the issue(s) will be resolved? Do I risk, do I shop elsewhere?....... Puzzled about this FAILURE of "Quality Control" GM.... SHAME ON YOU! I regret selling my 2011... I won't get a Dodge, but I may entertain a Ford. I am from a GM family, parents are both GM retiree's and I had 11 years there at Cadillac HQ in QC. -

That is unbelievable... there goes my hope so far to resolve! I was at the dealer just yesterday (Mar 5th, 2014) I spoke to the service manager, same guy who attempted to address my issues with vibration before. He admitted that it IS a known problem with our trucks, not all, but some. He called it "Smooth Road Vibration". Which is where I notice it most.. the blacktop/asphalt roads, nit the concrete surfaced roads. He stated that many dealerships now have a new device/machine provided by GM that aids in detecting the source of the vibration... I plan on having them attempt to locate my issue & hopefully resolve! He too said that in that in the past they switched tires to Michellin's with no overall success, as well as the wheels.. same, no overall success. He stated that for the 2014 model year that they are finding support brackets for the exhaust system being an issue contributing to vibration. Again, though, mine is a 2011. I will follow up if/when I get some additional feedback from the dealer. I was kind of letting the issue ride so to speak, my truck being a lease... no way to be, I know, but who has time to chase this stuff 100%. However, at lease end, my lease buyout is approx, $9,000 lower than current market value, I am keeping the truck. I do have prior service records showing vibration issues, I could and will continue with the claim. I could be a pain in GM's but on this topic too though... I have been in engineering and design for 30 years, I was at GM for 12 of those years in eng/des. Later at Cadillac HQTR's in Warren MI for 2 years in Puchasing/Supplier Quality. I am a difficult one to persuade or BS by any GM rep. -

Mine is now a couple of years older.... but I have to say... ALWAYS have had a vibration! I have had it to the dealer several times. Balance, re-balance the wheels, had a tire replace that was "believed to be the culprit" but nothing fixed! My truck has done this since day one, with the original 20" chrome cladded wheels from factory (as ordered). I have to say, sadly getting used to it... My friends have trucks, I've been in them, I take note of smoothness and a quite ride. I have always had that 60 mph at times, but mostly over 65mph vibration that continues/increases with speed. Worse on a black top or asphalt expressway/highway... seems a bit smoother on the concrete type roadways for some reason. It just seems to not be as apparent.. even seems absent on these roads in many cases. Bugs Me! Bugs Me! BUGS ME!!!! I am thinking, hoping that once I put some new tires on it, it may hopefully go away. I have thought that perhaps its the 20" wheel which is basically an aluminum wheel with a plastic wheel cover that is glued on. Maybe excessive glue I thought, as in globbed on too heavy on one side of the wheel... ? Maybe these wheels are prone to vibration due to a design flaw, uneven in weight distribution... I don't know! I am also considering going with different wheels, eliminating the cladding wheel type. I would like to go with an all terrain type tire but am afraid that those may worse the problem. I may go with an all season high quality Michellin in hopes of resolving... if not, for the $$$, I will be more upset. In an regard... there are issues! They should be resolved once and for all. At the dealer, they make you feel like the issue is just with your vehicle. I feel that there are many more of us out there... many just don't openly complain. But it's justifiable...
