      Oil covered Rancho shocks.

I only have 5000 miles on my 2014 Sierra and the lower part of the shocks are already covered with a heavy film of oil.

Is this normal or could they be leaking oil ?

I'd have to say no. Just need to confirm it's the shock and not anything that has "leaked down" from somewhere else.

  2. That's a good one because the same thing just happened to me. The chime started sounding every 10 seconds without any message anywhere. I turned off the park assist but that didn't make any difference so I pulled over and stopped. Then the chimes stopped. As soon as I continued driving it started again and then I noticed that when activating the turn signal, there was no clicking sound, flashing arrow but no sound. After checking all of my DIC settings and noticing no changes I was at a loss. Anyway, after I had finished my shopping (about an hour later) and headed back home, everything was normal again. Go figure.????????????????????
  3. After reading your post I went back and checked the work order on mine to see what other details were available. The same code was set as on yours (code 0392 symptom 8 )
  4. Update: Dealer found loose wires on the TCCM. After tightening all connections I haven't had a single 4wd service message since. It's been over a month and a half now and it's been perfect. They tried reprogramming it several times but that never worked on mine. Still kind of strange that the problem began the very next day after the reprogramming, but I guess that in hindsight it was a coincidence. Hats off to my dealer, they were very professional in solving a rather frustrating problem without taking the transmission apart or changing hardware. Now I have a wonderful truck once again and it runs great.
  5. Nice to see that you have retained your sense of humor during trips (unnecessary imo) back and forth to the dealers. After reading the problems that others are having similar to mine I think I'll postpone a visit to the dealers until GM gets a handle on this. So far I can drive mine using 2WD and simply dismiss the "Service 4wd" message that appears every few days. If I do require 4wd I can shift into it ok providing that I first dismiss the message. Then it's stuck in 4wd until I shut everything down and wait about 20 minutes.Turning the control knob prior to turning the ignition off accomplishes absolutely nothing. Meanwhile I came across this bulletin that may or may not be of help. http://sandyblogs.com/techlink/?p=3718 Kind of sucks to have a brand new vehicle that was ok until they did the first recall and then having the problem starting the very next day.
  6. My 2014 Sierra SLT with 1200 miles on it is still doing basically the same thing as yours. It will shift into 4 HI by itself if left in the AUTO position and stay there making it almost impossible to drive except in a straight line. After shutting it down, waiting 20 minutes and putting it into 2WD I can move again. I guess it's back to the dealers to see what they can come up with this time.
  7. Update............ Brought mine back last week and they agreed to reflash the software before taking anything apart. Well, things went well for a week, no more "service 4wd message" but then yesterday I did get another one. The dealer has been more than fair, the truck runs well, no problems with the 4wd so I'll just wait until my next service call or oil change before bringing it back to further explore the message and codes. Unless of course, if I really do encounter a 4wd problem.
  8. One would think that GM would have caught on by now. It seems that after the recall was performed the false "Service 4wd" messages began appearing. My dealer wants me to bring mine back in because they say that certain codes will have been set and they will know where to go from there. There is just no way that I'm going to let them touch mine because besides the spurious message, the truck runs fine and I can shift into 4wd without a problem. If I let them screw around with it who knows what else they will do.
  9. Thanks for the updates. The more I hear about this, the longer I'm going to wait before ever going back to the dealer for a recall. I still get the "Service 4wd message" every day or so but the truck works fine in 4 wd so I merely dismiss the message and carry on. I'm just too afraid to bring it back to the dealers and have them do the same thing to my truck that they have done to yours. It only has 1200 miles on it so imo there is no reason to start ripping everything under the sun apart trying to fix a problem that did not exist until I brought it in for the recall the first time.
  10. Thanks for the heads up but at my dealership the only person that you have any contact with is the "service advisor" behind the counter in the garage area. This person writes down the details, fills out the work order and passes it on to the technician. Now for me to suggest to them that perhaps somehow through their own incompetence they managed to muck up a perfectly good truck would be a bit of a hassle. I have a 5 year warranty with roadside assistance so if the 4 wheel drive ever does leave me stranded I'll simply phone and have them come for the truck. I'm definitely not going back to the dealer and have them rip out the transmission (as they suggested to skeeter) looking for a defect that most likely does not exist. Meanwhile it only takes a second to ignore & dismiss the message.
  11. That's exactly what mine does. If I try to shift it into auto or 4 Hi while the message "Service 4 wheel drive" is showing, nothing works. I then have to dismiss the message, turn the engine off, wait 10 or 20 mins for everything to reset and it runs fine for a few days until I get the message again. But...... if I simply dismiss the message as soon as it appears, everything works just fine. And to think that everything was working well until I brought it in for the recall is what really upsets me. Somehow they managed to screw something up that was probably ok in the first place.
  12. Other than the "Service 4 wheel drive message" is the truck able to operate in both auto and 4 wheel drive ? Poster Chuck mentioned that he had the same problem and it was solved by reflashing the software so that's why I'm going to wait a while before bringing it back to the dealer. Once enough owners experience the same problem GM may know what to do. It's too much of a coincidence that a few of us are having the exact same problem.
  13. I'm getting the same message and I only have 800 miles on the truck so I don't really want them taking it apart unless they are sure of the problem. I just keep dismissing the message until someone realizes that it's probably a software glitch because everything was fine until they flashed the module during the latest recall campaign.
  14. I have exactly the same problem !!!!!! Everything was fine until I got the recall notice, had the software update for the so called "Transfer case shifting into neutral" notice. The very next day the "Service 4 wheel drive messages" started. I can dismiss the message but every few days it reappears. The four wheel drive seems to work fine so I'm not going back to the garage again so they can screw something else up. The truck only has 800 miles on it so I'm going to wait until I accumulate 3 or 4 more recalls so I can get everything done at the same time. I've already gone through 2 recalls and that's enough for now. I have other things to do besides wasting time at the dealers.
