  1. 2004 Silverado with Bose system. Worked great for years. Took the perfectly good stock radio out and installed an aftermarket screen type with backup camera. Install went good and everything worked for awhile. Then it started cutting out and lots of static, sometimes just quit, then next time you started up it worked fine. Then the backup camera came on while driving so I figured it was the radio malfunctioning. So I put the old radio back in and it started with the static and cutting out. Sometimes I could tap the radio and it would work for awhile then cut out.I thought maybe the Bose connector (blue) might be the problem so I switched to the other connector (gray) but no difference. Does anyone have any idea where to look?
  2. This happened to me about a year ago. Had a transmission shop change rear main seal and evidently when they reinstalled the transmission they pinched the cam sensor wiring (easy to do if your not careful). They changed out the pigtail and cam sensor to no avail. Took it to a reputable auto shop, they couldn’t find the problem. Went to this forum for advice and one of the guys said to ditch that cheap crap they bought and get new sensor from the dealer. I did and never had a problem starting on first attempt again.
  3. Good to know, thanks!
  4. I replaced the engine with an reman. Fixed everything. Tore down engine- spun cam bearing.
  5. 2004 Silverado Z71 4wd ext. cab. I’m having more and more popping and an occasional clunking sound coming from front end. Sometimes I can feel it in the column. It doesn’t necessarily make the noise when turning, it’s just random. I’ve jacked up the front and tried moving parts including the steering shafts and had wife turn the wheel as I watched every part move and saw nothing out of the ordinary. The only thing damaged was the boot slit all the way around on drivers side inner tie rod. I have almost 200,000 miles on the body so maybe time to change some parts. My question is, “What are good parts to get and where”? There’s a million places that sell what I need but I don’t want junk. Only want to do this once.
  6. 2004 Silverado 1500 Z71 4wd 5.3L engine 4L60E transmission 190000 miles. Stock truck I bought this truck 2 years ago and have put 6000 trouble free miles on it in that time. It runs smooth and quiet. Until this morning. It started with no problem but ran extremely rough and belched grey smoke out the exhaust. There was also a ticking sound, like a lifter would make. Just one steady tick that increased with rpm’s. Occasionally I have heard it in the past on start but it would quiet down immediately. I’m getting a dtc P0300 (multiple cylinder misfires). The truck has had low oil pressure since I had it- 8psi@ idle & 40psi @ speed. I’ve checked it with a manual gage @ the sensor to verify it, but I never had noises from valve train. I had oil pump replaced along with o-ring but made no change. Blew out gallery from sensor to oil filter, no problem there. I’m leaning towards a problem with camshaft problem, maybe a spun bearing? I would tackle the P0300 code but the ticking noise concerns me. Any suggestions?
  7. Broken retaining clips on line from purge valve to intake. Would like to replace hard plastic line with rubber vacuum hose and clamps. Any problem doing that.
  8. It’s an 04 Z71.Putting in a new oil pump and o-ring didn’t change anything, if in fact it was done. I didn’t know the guy. Would a spun camshaft bearing not affect the engine performance and sound?. It is a quite and smooth running machine.
  9. Bought the truck about 10 months ago. Noticed on test drive oil pressure was low (8psi) at around 600-700 rpm. Nice truck, no engine noise and drove like new. 70 miles to home,no problem. Put a manual gage in place of sensor and confirmed the low pressure reading. Got a low pressure warning on message center and replaced the oil with 10w40 synthetic to eliminate that. But pressure didn’t improve much. Maybe enough to silence the alarm. Had the pump replaced and the oring at pickup tube also but nothing changed. I am beginning to wonder if this guy, who was suggested to me by my son actually did all the work correctly. Like i said the engine makes no noise indicating excessive bearing wear. I’m thinking about dropping the oil pan and checking the oring. The only reason I didn’t do it myself was because I don’t have a lift and space is tight but I’ll work around that. One guy here suggested to another to overfill the engine with oil and place rearend higher than the front enough to cover the oring. Anyone ever done this? Oh and the engine has 186000 miles on it.
