  1. Mine starts with 3 and has it
  2. I used to have a lot of input in this thread with my 2016 silverado. It is a 2wd crew cab with a 6.5' bed. So from the factory I have a 2 piece driveshaft and I still have a shake/vibration. It really is very minor now after all of the parts I have thrown on it. First started at around 8000 miles. I just thought it was something with my spindle lift and/or rear block. It wasn't. Since then I have had my OEM 2 piece driveshaft balanced to find it was perfectly fine. Very minor unbalance but it was balanced out and still had the same vibration. Then I swapped the rear 3.42 gears for 4.10 and also swapped out the axles. Of course this changed the speed output of the driveshaft to spin more at highway speeds. It basically brought the vibration down to a 68mph area but still there. Although, the axles really did seem to help the most in cutting down the vibration. I don't have it all the time and when its there it is very minimal. I think its barely there now or due to being at 65k miles now I have gotten used to it. So regardless of what people say swapping to a 2 piece "fixes" it I highly doubt it. Also I need to add that I really have a strong feeling the shake is in the programming or ABS system. I also have blackbear performance tunes installed and for my first initial tune he sent me I had zero vibrations. I had him modify the throttle response back down for me a bit and when I loaded that tune it seems the vibration came back.
  3. Hey guys I was heavy on this topic not long ago. I left here saying I was going to swap the axles which ended up taking longer than I had wanted. Well I did. I went with an aftermarket axle and while the rear end was opened I swapped from 3.42 gears to 4.10 for my 34" tires. I did stick with AAM gear set. RPM's on the highway now are a little higher than I wanted but I have my power back. Anyways I still have the shake just at different speeds now. Im waiting on my updated tune from blackbear for my speedometer to be fixed. Just using gps on my phone now for speed but its approx. 10 mph off at 65mph. Once I have that I'm going to dive back into this and research some more. If vibration is still around the 74mph mark (worst vibes) in my truck then I know its nothing to do with the rotating mass or drivetrain. Now that my driveshaft is spinning faster than normal at highway speeds due to the gearing change. I still strongly believe it is in the TCM tuning inside the trans. Pulsing clutch pressures and valves and such. Blackbear has worked with me in the past and has modified a pressure value in the trans which made the vibration much less noticeable, at least for my situation. Also I have switched out rear shocks, took out my 2 piece driveshaft and had it balanced and was slightly out of spec and corrected. I know it isn't the driveshaft in our trucks causing the problem as some have a 1 piece and others have 2. It doesn't matter if its 2 wheel drive or 4. Also doesn't seem to matter if you have the 6.2 or 5.3, 6 or 8-speed. Some have replaced torque converters and have had success. Some have just flushed and serviced their trans and it seems to help. I am wondering if some just get a bad batch of fluid in their trans from the factory causing pressure and slippage issues. I will be servicing the trans soon as well.
  4. I gave up on troubleshooting my truck. My vibration has never been as bad as I've seen some post in here. I'm done throwing parts at it and just going to live with it. I hope the 2019s or new body style will be fixed.
  5. A lot of people in here with the vibration have 2 wheel drive like myself so the issue couldn't be 4wd related as far as I know?
  6. I am just so jealous of the guy that swapped the axles to yukon and hasn't had any vibration for a couple thousand miles now. Must be amazing!
  7. That really sucks man. Once i can find a set of aftermarket axles in stock I will order them and install them. Like stated before it will be my last "fix" I do and if it doesn't work then I might put the truck all back to stock and do the dealer tango. I think there are just a variance of different vibrations we are all experiencing. I know most everyone has a 1 piece aluminum driveshaft and its rare for others to have a 2 piece steel shaft like me. Crew cab 6.5' bed 2wd. Its a long driveshaft so that tells me If I'm experiencing the same talked about vibration as others with a single piece shaft then that should eliminate the problem. I am pretty much ready to give up. I absolutely love my truck and this is the only issue. I emailed AAM who supply the rear axles for GM and I am still waiting to hear back. I know I won't get a response, but its worth a try. Also I do not think the vibration is from the axle flange, however I believe the axle flange is causing the tires to wear out creating "flat" spots which then lead to vibration. The added weight to the center of the wheel isn't enough to cause such a vibration. When most people here go to the dealer they get a road force balance and the problem is sometimes solved but comes back in 100 miles or so. Over time an out of round flange will cause the tire to become unbalanced again. I did my best with some videos with the wheel bolt pattern runout and it seems true to me. At best i could do is hold the camera to the bedside of the truck and line up the outer edge of the bolts with a mark on the ground. I will try to post up my video of that. I didn't post it originally because it looked fine.
  8. Have you checked the runout on the new axles yet? I would assume you would be getting the same crap that was in there the first time.
  9. Did you say you still have the vibration after the replacement?
  10. It could be done however mine are not true on the bolt mount surface as well as the center black area of the hub seems to be off.
  11. And another update seems to be yukon axles are out of stock everywhere. Found some on amazon that the store said was in stock and just received an email stating otherwise.
  12. 5.0 with a 10 speed sounds nice. I am a huge fan of GM. I have owned 02 with 4.8, 05 with 6.0, 06 duramax and not one issue ever. Got rid of the duramax with 248k miles with the original alignment in spec and changed the brakes at 200k. Got a 13 ram 2500 cummins and could have lemoned that piece but traded it in for my current 16 1500. I absolutely love this truck minus this issue. It is by far the most comfortable cab silverado has ever had. My next option would be the very simple Tundra. I debated it when I purchased this truck but as stated I am a GM guy.
  13. So after watching more youtube videos and researching and talking to a few people I went ahead and ordered some new yukon axles to replace mine. It just makes too much sense to me right now that it is the axle flange being out of round. To the member that stated the dealer replaced his, well they probably used the same oem part number that everyone has and hasn't noticed the out of roundness. Also a big factor in this is the tires. They are developing an out of roundness on the tread. That little extra weight puts more weight down when the tire comes into contact with the pavement. Thats what I believe anyways. So even if you replace the axles and still feel something I'd recommend balancing your tires immediately. This goes to show when a dealership road force balances your tires they are technically correcting the problem. the axle itself isn't causing this vibration, I believe the axle is forcing the tires to become unbalanced. Yesterday I took the rear wheels, calipers, and rotors off to check my axle flange. Of course they are out of round like everyone else's. I think some axle flanges are worse than others. When I re-installed my wheels I made sure to install them 180 degrees from the position I took them off. During my 90 mile each way commute to the job site today I noticed the vibration is almost not even there. On the way home it gradually came back. Still not as bad as yesterday but it is there. I made this video of my axle flange so you can all see as well. Same as previous members videos. I will report back once the installation is complete and I get a good amount of miles on her. I'm seriously aggravated over it and it really sucks that we can't just enjoy our drive. Constantly turning the radio down thinking maybe its this or that. I hope the end is near for all of us.
  14. I'm not sure it would be the torque converter due to the vibration is with speed and not rpm. 4,5,6 gears all have it at 70+ mph. Also felt in neutral going down hill.
  15. Chevy would be like Oprah... You get a free tube, and you get a free tube...
  16. You are correct. You're words are spot on with what I feel. Even with a spindle lift up front and 34" tires my symptoms are the same as those who are stock. I installed the lift and tires at 8000k miles. It was after I installed the lift I started to feel the vibration. I kept going back to the shop telling them I have a bent wheel, pinion angles are off, bad tire, etc. They did everything in their power to figure it out. After coming on here I realized it probably has nothing to do with any of that. As Abominable description of his vibration is exactly what most of us have. After I installed the lift I uploaded my tune from BlackBear performance. First off their tunes are just awesome!. I also opted to keep AFM enabled. The truck feels so much more alive. So after I installed the 1st tune the vibration went away completely. Not one single shake or shimmy. After a couple thousand miles I asked blackbear if they could pull back a little on the throttle response. Without hesitation they did exactly what I wanted and emailed me my new tune. I uploaded it to the truck and the vibration was back. Throttle response was exactly what I had asked for though. I emailed blackbear about the vibration and he requested that he set the converter slip to 0. I wish I still had the email with his explanation. Basically described that our torque converters are always hunting for a certain degree of slip between 0 and 20 I believe... I could be wrong but it was something along those lines. Anyways I uploaded tune 3 and it made a huge difference in the vibration. I'd say 90% of it was gone for about 500 miles and then it came back. So the torque converter or programing could have a lot to do with it as well. After this I was thinking it was the AFM so I had blackbear again do a 4th tune for me that was the same as the 2nd tune just with AFM disabled. Loaded that tune and nothing changed. At this point they asked if I could record a file for them at the time when it shakes. He wanted to go over all the PIDs and whatnot and see what could possibly be changing when it starts to vibrate. I have been meaning to do this and send it to them. I should probably get this together and see If they can notice anything off. I can't remember who it was who posted a link to TSB's about 2 pages back or so but there is one that sticks out to me. https://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/TSb/DownloadPdf?id=194276 Re-torque the bolts on the trans mount to the engine. Might be worth a try. If i get time I'll see what I can do. Kinda makes sense as kthomas described from seeing in his GoPro video of the trans moving all over the place. Also I've been following this thread for a pretty long time as well. I do remember on member had his torque converter replaced and his issue went away. Has anyone else done this? Thinking before all that work what if a friction modifier was added to the trans fluid first just to see what that does. Could possibly be slipping or shuddering at lock up. Maybe something like this: http://www.lubegard.com/~/C-230/Instant+Shudder+Fixx
  17. I will have to look into them and check it out. Definitely worth a trip for me.
  18. Awesome. Hope this fixes it for you I agree completely. Ive asked friends and coworkers the same question as to what they think that extra mass so close to the center would cause. I've got a 50/50 mix of answers. If this is the cause the only logical explanation would be that some flanges are left with more mass than others?
  19. If i get bored one day I might just remove my rear shocks completely and take it up to 70 and see if it starts hoping. That might be hard due to there not being any long smooth stretches of road around me but It would tell me the out of round axle flange or something in the rear end is causing it... right?
  20. Im really thinking of just going for it and having a shop change my axles. Has anyone done this yet?
  21. UPDATE... Drove about 100 miles today on the highway with the shaft aligned and balance and it is different. There is still a vibration but not as bad as it was. I'd say 50% is gone. While I was under the truck re-installing the driveshaft I noticed that the yoke at the output shaft on the transmission seems to have some play in it. Enough to make it move noticeably. Hard to say that is the cause though. If you get under your truck just push up on this yoke at the trans and see if yours does it.
  22. If you could rig up your own tool post and some lathe tools and just let the truck run about 15 to 20 mph Id say you pretty much have a self powered lathe and could correct the out of roundness yourself without pulling the axle. Of course do this at your own risk. Now what I am seeing from the videos and from the general response of the posts in this topic is that road force balancing does reduce the problem if not "fixes" the problem temporarily and here is what I think... If you have that much extra mass of weight on your axle flange then at that same degree outward to the tire tread is going to be "heavier" when it rolls around to the pavement. Ultimately creating a "flat spot" in your tire. Road force balancing can balance the flat spot out. With a rotation that tire is at a different corner and magically its gone, for now... Back to the excess weight of the axle flange and it will slowly start to wear out that tire again. And for the people who have the problem at random... It could be possible that both axle flanges are out of round. That being said when you take a turn on the rear axle the inside wheel is turning less then the outside wheel which could be canceling out the vibration because the axles are close to 180 degrees apart. And of course there may be my original theory of the locker could be malfunctioning at higher speeds causing power to both left and right sides intermediately creating a pulsing. Sorry I'm not the best with words but hopefully my point is coming across to you. Just my opinion of course.
  23. Very nice, Ive had this feeling about the axles since the day it started. I have also had my 2 piece drive shaft straightened and balanced. Haven't got it up to 70 yet but I will provide my feedback when I do. Around town it feels different. I sometimes had a vibration under hard acceleration and braking but it seems to not exist anymore. Hoping for the best!
  24. I will let them know. Thanks. Was that causing your vibration issue?
  25. Yep my thoughts exactly. I don't want to put my truck back to stock just to see what they might say. Let me know what you find out in the rear end. I took my truck to tri county gear today in pomona and was going to get 3.73s installed. Seems thats another impossible task to do right now but they finally found out what exactly i needed. I was going to have them look into anything it could possibly be in there. I don't know if they would actually check the balance of the axles but possibly do an overall visual of all the parts. Including bearings.
