  1. Funny that they use the same font as Ford for the word "legends"
  2. Repaired a 2011 base model Silverado cluster, well at least it bench tests good, we'll see tomorrow for sure.
  3. Repaired a 2011 cluster out of a plain Jane Silverado.
  4. Just finished a 2004 Tahoe cluster for a backyard mechanic. After I repaired the cluster he went home with a list of things to do like broken ground on fuel sending unit, oil pressure sending unit and evap solenoid failure. He was impressed that I knew all that just by looking at the cluster....
  5. Did an other Hummer H2 cluster ( 2004 ), a 2007 Impala FOB ( GM#15859331 ).
  6. Repaired a 2008 Buick Alure FOB (227333524 ). Just finished a 2004 Silverado repair on a cluster with only 86186kms on the odometer, that's only like 54,ooo miles. Failed mostly due to copper migration on the back plain. Customer complained that it would kill the battery in 3 days. Typically I clean the spot with a sanding brush. The I put cutex over the area to prevent it from happening again. An other happy camper Then sold and programmed a FOB to a 2008 Suburban (15913427) All in a days work.
  7. This morning I repaired an 03 Avalanche cluster. Owner tried to change motors himself, at least he stopped after trying to change the second one. Got her going again!!
  8. Actually I can't, I was going by memory and now that you mention it it might have been prior to 2010 because I remember my 2007 Cobalt's plastic insides deteriorating in front of my eyes and me saying " Well bio-degradation is a bit premature. But I believe the legislature stated that all plastics and rubbers should be completely decomposed in a landfill after 100 years. Now this may be only a Canadian legislature and not North American. Been too long but my buddy that was an engineer for Michelin ( Bridgewater ) told me this himself and how only time would tell which recipe worked best. But like I said going by memory here and I'm old.
  9. Since 2010 Michelin has had to comply with GREEN legislature which says all tires must be bio-degradable after 10 years. These are 11 years old. They did over do it with the compound at first but now last longer if cared for with proper sidewall treatment as suggested my manufacturer. My wife's Defenders are in great shape still after 7 years but I apply that treatment every year to keep the side wall moisturized. Today I repaired a FOB for a 2008 Cobalt ( #22733524 ). This guy asked me if I had any for sale because his was all broken and in pieces. I told him it was cheaper to repair the old one but he insisted it was beyond repair. He brought it anyways, I fixed it for $30 less than it would have cost him otherwise. He was quite happy and continued with I'll bring the wife's FOBs tomorrow. All good with me I said. Then I repaired a 2004 Silverado cluster and LEDed it in cool white. It was his biddies truck so I've not receive a thumbs up yet but I know it's going to work fine. At least it did on the bench.
  10. Where are you from exactly?
  11. I don't usually repair truck clusters older than 2003 just because I can't get the parts but yesterday this guy was down on his luck and needed his 2002 Sierra diesel cluster fixed and since all the gauges still worked good and it didn't need stepper motors I decided I'd give it a shot. It took longer for me to find the pin-out than it did for me to fix the 2 problems with the cluster. 1. There was no backlighting. 2. The display was dead. Once I had the pin-out I was able to set up a connector with the proper grounds and B+ to fire it up. It's all fixed now and we have an other happy guy.
  12. Yeah but his happy face was priceless, no emoji can represent that.
  13. The guy came to get his cluster this morning, never seen any body so happy to get something fixed. Now I know why I like to do this! I was asking $60 and I thought that might have been a bit high for the work I did but he thought otherwise. He gave me $100 and would not take the $40 change. I like it when people really appreciate my work.
  14. Yes, matter a fact I started it today since it was the first of the month. Runs like new. Only preventative maintenance I did was replace the 3 auger 6203 bearings that had seen too much EOD road salt slush. I could hear them begging for grease, so replaced the single sealed bearings with dual precision sealed ones. Tonight I repaired a 2007 Yukon cluster that had lost both displays at the bottom. Seems to work fine now!!! lol
  15. Our Kijiji is similar to Craigslist and people that shop on Kijiji are well not the most reliable and trusting. I have a bunch of different key FOBs that I have accumulated over the years and sell them on Kijiji. I clean them up, install a new battery and make sure they work properly. This works out pretty good for me most of the time but there's always the one person that says " I want it, I need it, consider it sold, I'll pick it up today or tomorrow, can you hold it for me?" These are some of the FOBs that today I put back up for sale because they've been sitting there for at least a month. I just hang them on my shelf as I wait for the pick-up. So at least $300 worth of no shows.
  16. This morning I repaired a 2005 Sierra Duramax HD cluster and a 2005 Silverado Duramax HD cluster , also sold them each a remote and programmed them to their trucks. Then repaired a FOB ( 15252034 ) for a 2008 Cobalt. Pretty good day so far.
  17. Looks easy on YouTube! An other YouTuber DIYourselfer that completely destroyed the copper islands on the board for the stepper motors. At least he stopped after the first one. Then he decided to add more solder to a lost cause. Then what do you do? Call Coby7. I can only perform one miracle a month, hope he appreciates it.
  18. Answered a PM this morning for a member and decided to post here because it may help somebody else with the same problem most common on 02-04 Avalanche and 03-04 others. Concerning instrument panel causing battery drain. What you need to look for is copper migration on the back of the instrument panel. Take the cluster out and remove the black back cover. ( 6 clips ) This is what you will see. On the left around where the oil pressure gauge is, check for darkened copper islets in this area. You will notice on this particular board 2 have started going dark but not enough to cause your problem. Yours will have large spots causing bridging, unfortunately I don't have one at hand to show you but it would look even worse than these 3 spots. Here you can actually see possible bridging between an islet and the adjacent trace. What you will need to do is clean the area in the red square from second picture. If you have a sanding pen, they work best. Then to test your work plug it back in and turn ignition "ON" turn it "OFF" and open the driver's door and watch the needles of your cluster. They should twitch about 20 seconds after opening the door. 90% of these problems I solve this way. Once you are sure that your cluster turns "OFF" and no longer drains your battery take the cover back off and apply a bit of varnish on the trouble spots. I use nail polish just because it's handy.
  19. A blue oval maybe, not sure it's a tough one. At least it's not all corroded...
  20. Or maybe for once GM could treat the metal so it doesn't rust. They have the technology but their trucks would last too long and they wouldn't sell new ones. What they don't know is maybe they would sell a lot more and Ford and Dodge fans may flip.
  21. LEDed a 2006 diesel Silverado HD cluster and repaired his FOB ( #15132198 ) His stepper motors were still all working but were they ever noisy, I'm sure he'll be back to see me soon.
  22. That idiot took away somebody's son, dad and husband for what possible reason other than stupidity. His driver's permit should be revoked permanently when caught. I went to the junkyard this morning looking for the 2 louvered vents on top of the radio of my Trax . seen here in this picture... The new radio bezel didn't come with them and I wanted to be able to return the old MyLink radio quickly if need be. Got there and they only had 2 Trax of older models with different radio and both were heavily damaged and both bezels were broken, but the vent part appeared to be the same and one of them was intact. So I grabbed it and brought it to the counter. The guy at the counter looked at it and said you can have that if you can salvage what you need. So price was good but was it ever filthy. All I needed were the vents and spring clips so I took it apart and cleaned it piece-by-piece. Then put it all back together... Then he tells me, we have an non inventoried 2006 Silverado which you can have the cluster and HVAC control unit out of. So took those home too. Don't know if I can salvage the cluster yet but I LEDed the HVAC unit and put it up for sale on Kijiji for 60$ So a good day.
  23. I haven't been pestering you with what I've been doing for a while, today I LEDed a 2003 Silverado cluster and repaired a 2004 Avalanche cluster then I LEDed his HVAC control panel.
