  1. My was the lash adjustment backing out. It was loose from very slow spee2ds to scary at high speed. There also was a computer flash done after the repair. Mine has the loctite at the threads, nut. Have over 25,000 miles on it and still tight. Seems like more than one issue going on with this steering.
  2. If you read the PIT 5501f it shows pictures, and how they do the fix. Mines still good at 42,000. If it's still covered don't worry about it. My neighbor bought a truck same time as me and his never loosened up. If you do it yourself and box has an issue might cause you some headaches with dealer. You will know in a hurry if it gets loose. Scary. My opinion is it was never torqued properly at factory. Shouldn't have come loose?
  3. That sure is a crappy service dept. My was fixed at 17,000 with the locktite repair and so far it has been good at 41,000 now. Keeping my fingers crossed. I personally think we need to verify any work done. I checked my lash adjustment nut and the blue locktit is visible. Sounds like that Chevy dealer needs a new service manager. I always make the service manager go for a test drive after repairs. Shame we can't trust people after what we spend on these trucks. My only gripe now is a shot tailgate bushing that allows the tailgate to drop slowly. That's gonna be 35 to 40 for a cappy design piece of plastic.
  4. I assume you had the fix with the loctite on the steering box adjustment screw. Can you tell if the screw has moved out again. Can you see it thru the wheel well or feel under the nut. I now have 18,000 miles on mine since fix and still tight.
  5. Sounds like an alignment issue. If you have the loose steering TSB it's pretty loose from 10:00 to 2:00. Scary.
  6. I just looked up the TSB. 2016 - 2017 all engines.
  7. Go back and find the Technical Service Bulletin. Page 33 or 34. See if this is what your steering is doing. On this issue the steering box lash adjustment unscrew and the steering gets really loose. They have a fix and it worked on mine. I have about 11 or 12,000 since the fix. It's tight still. Read the tsb and take a copy with you to dealer. There's also a few computer flashes after the fix. Good luck.
  8. My dealer was good. Even talked to mechanic about the fix before he did it. Pretty crazy the act stupid. You should be able to reach in and feel under the nut on the steering box. Or maybe you can look over the tire at the box to see if it's unscrewed. Good luck.
  9. Bring the TSB about the loose steering. I now have almost 10,000 miles on my truck since the fix was done. Still tight.
  10. How is your power steering holding up?

      Still tight after 8000 miles.

  11. This is my second DMax. I still have my 2005 with 195000 miles on it. Still runs like the day I drove it off the lot. So I hsve been very happy with my trucks. I believe my lash adjustment came loose after a 25 mile trip in the back country in Idaho fishing. Lot of washboard roads. That shouldn't have loosened up but I noticed it a few hundred miles after that trip. Overall this is the only issue in 25000 miles so far. For a 1 ton rides great. Running about 20 + on highway mpg. I hope this truck continues like the 2005. Will be my last truck if it does. The right dealer is important. Do your homework before going in for service. I had all the current TSB on the service of the steering in my hand. If anyone's out of warrenty gm shows less than 2 hours to do that lash fix. Show them the estimated labor .
  12. The bleeder bolt they are talking about is probably the lash adjustment bolt that works loose and fluid leaks out . That's what mine did. Comes up the threads. I don't recall seeing a bleeder bolt. Will look next time when I have it on the lift.
  13. Are you talking about the recall on airbags? I had a computer reflash for that. The steering issue is a TSB. Mine was done at 17000 and at 24000 still tight.
  14. That sounds like a total different issue than the steering lash looseness that I had. Reading the DTC code in the TSB that you supplIed shows a sensor issue. I do know they had a few flashes after they fixed my steering they preformed. Maybe one for your issue ? Good luck.
  15. www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/TSb/DownloadPdf?id=199083 Mine was loose for about 200 miles. The warrenty will be extended on it because it was fixed at 17000. At least that's what the dealer said. You can look at the adjustment shaft and see if its backed out? Then there's some computer re flashes?
