In reading there's 2 ways to fix the steering looseness. The simple way is if the lash adjustment unscrewed it's self out of the top plate. The locknut doesn't turn. They clean the threads , apply a generous amount of blue locktite, crank it back down, torque to spec's and do the computer reprogramming. I can't see that they took my steering box out so I think this is what my repair consisted of. I talked to the mechanic before the job and he said something about disconnecting the steering link in the system. The service writer said they have to remove box. but I don't think my was removed? My was leaking a little fluid because I had it on my lift and saw it. When I wiggled my wheels it was scary how much looseness was in the steering. My lash adjustment stud has loosened or sure. I didn't look to see if there was a gap under the lock nut. I would have had to remove the wheel liner. About 20 or more screws. I know this because of removing the right side to change my fuel filter. Pain in butt but I did install the cut out to make the fuel filter change a little easier in future. I am changing my oil this week and will try and determine what was done. Box removed? I don't this so? Doesn't say on receipt it was removed. My box is not leaking steering fluid now that I can see. So I believe the nut and lash shaft had unscrewed. Maybe the guy that tightened the nut didn't do the job right at the steering box manuf? If the lock tite holds problems solved I hope? The stablitrac has always been full of issues. I found out this winter If you don't disable it 4x4 is almost useless when u spin a wheel. So If I know if 4x4 is needed disable it first. My buddy has a 2017 2500 hd duramax and loves it. But this year a lot of motor internal changes so I passed on it. Hopefully it's good for him. Good luck with your fix.
