    I didn't read all of the replies so someone may have already answered the question. I was experiencing the first to second clunk when the truck was cold and it was the first time I drove it. What I started doing is to start the truck, put the transmission in reverse for five to ten seconds, then put it in drive and wait five to ten seconds before driving off. I haven't experienced the clunk since I started doing this. I'll leave the theories to those more knowledgeable about transmissions.
