  1. My emails have said 'ABS Diagnostic Alert'for quite some time. Started a bit after a tpms sensor stopped reporting (don't care) and that light came on. Ironically, the emails report all 4 tire pressures but ones missing on the truck menu. No ABS light so I'm not super concerned but figured it's worth asking if I should do something. Thanks.
  2. Just got back to some internet. 60-65 on I80 westbound. Limit is 70. I try to stay around 65. In town it's been 145ish with the PPE. I saw 235 deg (again in 4th) towing across TN a couple days ago. Just the truck driving in Smoky Mountain NP yesterday saw 205 climbing to newfoundland gap. Ive been taking photos to talk through with the shop when I get home.
  3. 6L80 transmission. Rebuilt about 5000 miles ago and new billet TC. PPE thermal bypass installed. Day 1 of spring break trip. Towing ~5000 lb trailer into the wind. I was watching temps closely for the first hour of the drive and no big deal. Happened to flip back to trans temp screen and see 255 deg. Was driving in 4th gear. Not shifting / hunting. Slowed to 57 ish mph where the truck would stay in 5th and temps dropped down to ~220 really quick. For the remainder of the drive, 4th consistently generates heat in excess of cooling capacity. Why would that be? Called the shop and was advised to be careful / mindful and finish the road trip then bring it back for them to review. Why would it do this? Photo for reference. Was consistently at 65mph.
  4. Im pretty sure it's already bypassed but in any case I ordered the PPE bypass and I'm interested to see how it does. Even after rebuild I've seen temps above 200 deg. With the unit on there today.
  5. So the pill is then sealing the internal passage. It would stand to reason then that what I've got is a permanent block since there's no passage.
  6. Yeah. Asking because the kit won't work with this housing. I'll probably order a full aftermarket housing or the updated GM one.
  7. So I'm correct that with no passage between, it's essentially always allowing coolant to flow through the lines right?
  8. I purchased the Shift Technology thermal bypass modification kit and went to install it today but the existing bypass housing and internals don't match anything I can find. When I dissassembled it, there was a pin in the center and a cylindrical piece that sits on top of the pin and resides up in the end cap permanently. There is no passage between the two sides (plug both top holes and blow in it and air goes nowhere). Is this already some sort of aftermarket bypass which would be permanently open? - If so, why bother with the pin and cylendrical bit? The transmission runs quite a bit warmer than I'd expect if it were fully bypassed. I got this because I've already had the trans rebuilt once and a billet converter installed and I don't want to do it again. What would you do?
  9. I bought my 2018 used. Shortly after, I found the usb port in the glove box and discovered that it doesn't provide continuous power (even to a USB stick or Android Auto wireless adapter). Continuously cycles on and off. Ive been ignoring it but would like to use the port. I swapped fuses 26 and 27 with no improvement. Fuses both look OK. Any thoughts on next steps?
  10. Following up just in case someone comes along. This behavior slowly worsened over time to the point where I dropped the truck off at a shop. First they drove it and couldn't replicate. I said it's usually only after extended trips. They drove it again, replicated, and have diagnosed as issues with the torque converter slipping which creates excessive heat and requiring a rebuild. Stated the high temp causes the trans to go into some sort of a panic state. Called another shop to corroborate the findings and get a competitive price and they seemed to think it's early for the issue to present but sounds about right. I'm in for a billit torque converter and trans rebuild at 47,000 miles.
  11. Yeah. The computer said it was failing June 2022 so this one was a replacement of that remanufactured unit under Advance warranty.
  12. Checked grounds and power distribution. Cleaned grounds and covered in grease again. Still had an issue so I jumpered the starter signal wire in the fuse box and still had the issue so I guess just an odd starter failure. I've never had one intermittently work without a hammer tap. Replaced that and we will see if it comes back.
  13. My wife woke me stating that our 2018 Silverado wouldn't start on Thursday morning. I checked it out and sure enough, it wouldn't start. Grabbed a charger / start assist and it fired right up. Left charger on the battery and it was down to 2A draw within 20 mins. Drove to Auto Zone, they said the battery tested 100%, Starter 'looked good', and the charging system passed. Later in the day, it wouldn't start again. Grabbed my daughter to start it for me and it turned right over. I reseated the easy to get to wiring connector at the starter and it kept starting. Today, wouldn't start in the morning. Tried it several times and finally started. Tonight, I got a video of it although my phone didn't start recording right away. Video below. After the video, I swapped out the starter relay with the trailer relay and hasn't had an issue since. I'll test again in the morning. Any thoughts? Such an intermittent failure of a relay seems odd to me.
  14. Old thread but figure worth a shot. I have a 2018 Silverado and have gotten the e-mail for SAC004 twice. Seems to start fine. When it says check power at the starter terminal are they saying disconnect it and see what happens? Edit: oh yeah... The one with the lug. Not trying that in crank while under the rruck...
  15. I'd totally have gone that route but have a cap on the truck. That's why I went with the bars on top.
  16. I have a 2018 Silverado 1500 Double Cab. I've found a roof rack which I plan to transport a canoe with but I do not like the straps going through the cab. My father and brother have old roof racks that attach to the top door seal and I'd like to swap my straps out for such a bracket. that said, I haven't been able to anchors that look like they'll fit properly over the door frame. Does anyone have brackets like this that they like using?
  17. Does the learning never figure itself out?
  18. This is on my list once warranty runs out in March. Worth a try since I like Amsoil lubricants anyhow. I'm driving it far more frequently now so I can work out any kinks that may get caught in warranty before I dive in.
  19. From what I'm reading, hard downshift from time to time is 'normal' but I just can't get used to it. I've driven about 1,500 miles on my 2018 Silverado and get it every now and again. Hard enough that it bothers me. First time I really felt it, I thought I hit / ran over something. Truck has 19k miles total. Any way to minimize the behavior? I saw a relearn process but it looked like for a 8 speed transmission.
  20. This may be evidence that I need a vacation. Didn't even think of that bc it's been holding my hand sanatizer. Can't believe I didn't arrive at this.
  21. Should have added. Two kids, Two dogs, my Wife and I. Otherwise, yes. Dogs ride in the back. As it stands, for trips it's either a dog or a kid but the seat's occupied. Theyre in the bed for hunting but I'm a pushover and feel bad for family trips when it's really hot / cold.
  22. So my family is back to having two dogs. Trouble is that now we have a dog taking up the jump seat in the front of my truck and I can't use cup holders in the flip down seat back. Does anyone have good options for adding at least a single cup holder so I can keep my coffee flowing? My thoughts so far: Buy the generic holder that you can get on Amazon / Menards / Auto store. Question: How are folks securing this sort of thing? - There doesn't appear to be a great place to secure it unless I could cut it to match up to the contour of the floor in front of the jump seat. - Could order floor liners that cover the center hump and secure it to there somehow? This is a fair expense just for a cup holder though ? I can't imagine screwing a cup holder through the carpet is a great idea. What's worked for others?
  23. Work Vs. Personal phones. Long story involving application functionality, an overly restrictive IT Security team, and desire to not take work calls 24/7.
