show me a sign

88 chev k1500 after installing bearings in tilt housing they looked an felt to be fully seated but when put the inner race in and shield , the shield didnt seem to snug up like when i removed it is there a way to look at the bearing and tell if it is seated deep enough in the housing how far down on the housing should it be seated thought was bottomed out when installed

i have an 88 chev k1500 i want to change the tilt steering column housing bearings , my problem is i have it ready to pull the wiring harnesses through the column but the wire connectors wont go through a plastic shield attached to the column some videos show them just pulling it right through no mention on a plastic shield. no way i an do that got any answers appreciate it
