So I am going to try and keep this as short as I can but the list of things I have done trying to fix this the last month is long and that is why I am here in hopes someone can help. I have a 03 Silverado 1500 crew cab, with the Bose sound system, my stock head unit would stop playing any sound, randomly, sometimes it would work, other times would skip in and out, and sometimes it would never make a sound on a whole car ride. Now it would never shut off, just stop playing sound, radio, Bluetooth, etc. I have checked over a dozen videos and forums with the same issue, and nothing is working for me. So my first step was buying an aftermarket head unit and speakers from Crutchfield as I suspected the stock unit was bad. I want to point out, I still have all the same issues with the new unit, so no new equipment is causing the issue. Now here is where the long list of troubleshooting begins, I have moved, pinched, and multmetered my wire harness and the antenna wire. Sometimes the sound cuts out, sometimes the new unit just shuts off. So I thought I had an issue with the antenna cable. After moving and rotating this countless times, the cut was never consistent, and the new unit shutting off seems to be a poor connection between the stock wire and the adapter I needed for the new head unit. I checked the wire where it goes into the hood, took the bolts out, and visually inspected what I could, and no obvious issues, and still no consistency in the radio cutting out. So the next step was installing one of my aftermarket speakers b/c my driver-side speaker was blown and corroded. Installed a new speaker and still the exact same issue. I thought maybe the bad speaker was causing a short or grounding into my door. I have been wiggling any wire I could see that has any relation to my sound system and still no consistency in the radio cutting out. I started checking grounds today and found the ground wire from the chassis to the hood disconnected, so I put that back just in case. Tested ground was good, also did the same for the chassis to the back of the motor ground and that tested as a solid ground as well. I don't know all of the ground locations, I just started that today as I am desperate. I have most of my dash apart, as my ignition security went last month and I had to wire the anti-theft lines together, and I started the radio while I had stuff apart, so I was thinking of just getting a new antenna wire and taking out the passenger dash side as well. But I guess that's where it stands right now, if anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them because I am chasing ghosts at this point. It seems to be a common issue, but all the common solutions I have seen have not worked for me yet, I am also thinking about my battery going, or the alternator, never had any starting issues, but the battery has been dying with me messing with stuff and turning the key on and off after about 2 hours. I guess ill see what people have to say first.
