How do I disable steering wheel lock mechanism for good?
I have read through many posts and lots of them show removing and replacing steering assembly. Some say removed but weren't clear on if they reinstalled the lock plate with their aftermarket steering wheel....
I have a 1998 Chevy Silverado K1500 pickup w automatic transmission and it does have tilt steering wheel option. (I have had vats system erased from comp/ECM/ECU) So no factory security system anymore. It caused nothing but problems and is obsolete now and costs way to much to try to keep it in there. In my opinion it just sucked.... So I have been doing some fun little mods to the inside of my truck. I did all digital gauges and put a new dash skin over the broken to nothing factory sun damaged one. It's looking good (in my opinion of course). I am now putting an alarm system with keyless entry and remote start and also has push button start. I have been given a lot of grief asking this question on a different forum. Saying " why would you want to get rid of safety and security systems" and " sounds shady, it's what thief's want".... Freekin silly since even Chevy stopped putting locking steering wheels on (2000 trucks) I think... Close if not that year...
Can someone please help me by telling me what to remove in my steering column and to leave Left out to permanently delete steering wheel lock function. If possible I would like to retain cruise control and I'll put the original steering wheel with airbag back on too, so if I can hook all that back up and it be functional, than that would be great.
There's gotta be a "lock plate" or pinn or rod that needs to be shaved or cut Or left out... I just don't know what to do, to stop the locking steering wheel function...
Thank you as always. You are a great community.
Thank you, Kurt
