Hey I'm new here and this is my first time ever coming across this problem. I'm working on my 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 because one day coming home from work I couldn't shift back into Park. I replaced the shifter table from the steering column all the way down underneath the truck to the transmission lever. Everything is that it should be I've adjusted the shifter table. I'm able to put the transmission into park manually whenever somebody is in the driver seat pressing down on the brake pedal. I checked the shifter interlock solenoid in the steering column and nothing's hanging everything looks like it's supposed to. And I'm only able to shift out of park into reverse neutral drive D3 and D2. I have no D1 and when I try to sit back in the park the steering column lever goes all the way up into the park position like it's supposed to but the transmission itself won't engage into park and stays in reverse. My next step is to replace the shifter interlock solenoid. I wanted to post this and see if anybody could give me any help in case that wasn't it before I get into that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I have a 2003 Chevy 2500hd 6.6l diesel. All gears and shifting were working fine. Pulled out on highway today and had to get on it. When going through gears I heard it slip up and rev as if it slipped out of gear. I slowed down and got off road. It seemed to be stuck in 3rd gear. I tried putting it into reverse and it would not work. The shifter doesn’t even feel like it’s moving into gear when I move into reverse. When I move shifter to Drive, it sounds very rough and it starts off in 3rd gear. The truck will not shift out of this stuck gear, not even go into reverse. Had to put home slowly in that gear range. Need some help, What’s going on?

Shifter column or shifter cable needs to be replaced?
Supercross109 posted a question in Ask the GM Technician
Hello, I have a 2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD 8.1L Automatic Allison and I am having a problem when I try to shift into drive, the transmission gear and dash indicator reads as Neutral while sitting in the Drive slot on the shifter column. If I gently giggle the shifter up and down it will then shift to Drive while remaining in the original slot (drive) on the shifter column. Sometimes I have to go to the 3rd gear slot and back up to drive to get it to shift and read as (drive). I can hear the transmission shifting fine when the indicator reads as Reverse, Neutral, Drive, and so on. Yet, it sometimes thinks it is in Neutral when it is in the Drive slot on the shifter column. Do I have to replace the whole shifter column unit attached to the steering wheel because it is sloppy, is it shifter cable that needs to be replaced because it is going back, is it both, or something else? -
Got a 1993 G20 Chevy Sports Van. She's a 5.7 V8 704r. So this was part of the seller's inheritance. She sat for almost one year and prior to owners death, had no Transmission issues. She drives in Neutral and has 0 ZERO Reverse. Like no bucking or any other sensation when it's in reverse. Her trans fluid was dark. I had all fluids changed today and asked the mechanic what he found in the transmission pan. He said there were a few shavings and the fluid was dark but that was it. He told me he was no Transmission guy but really felt like I did not have a transmission problem. The car acts like it has no reverse at all. I was told by a transmission guy to Rev it up a bit after warming it up. If the front clutch in the transmission is stuck together, I should feel it buck like it wants to go into reverse but it can't. I GOT nothing in reverse period. It drives in Neutral which the mechanics that did the fluid changes said they have never seen. Sooooo...do I have a transmission problem, a shift solenoid problem, some sort of cable that's come undone....detent, TV ? My fear is that this is something less expensive than a transmission rebuild and I don't know enough to know what it is ? What do you guys think ? For the record....after all the fluids were changed, it drove like a million bucks !

Hello all, so this weekend i took my 2000 Silverado out camping and on my 3rd day out i went to start the truck and warm it up and drove it around the campsite and everything worked fine, parked the truck and then grabbed the family and loaded up, went to shift from park to drive and the lever just fell loose, wont go into any gear from the shifter but if i get under the truck i can shift into all gears fine, then once in drive i can shift from drive to neutral reverse and park just fine but wont go to any gear from park, cable was replaced last year. No clue where to start but everything under the truck is connected and in working order. 2000 extended cab short bed 5.3l 4l60e. 2wd

Hey guys. New here and wanted to ask you a question. Its cold here in midwest. This morning I went to start the truck and shift into drive, I was little rough on the shifter. Pulled the shifter too hard and it went crunch, and it fell still dangling on the rubber boot still in park. What am I up against here? I know the shifter is a solid steel that goes into column.

On my 1996 chevy Cheyenne the gear shift is loose and it won't let me take the key out sometime not a big deal if I wiggle the shifter up a little I can take it out. But I was wondering if there is a way to adjust that?

Hi all, haven't posted in quite a while. I am in serious need of some help. I have a 1999 silverado 4x4 z71. Just replaced the shifter cable about a month ago. Everything was fine until last night. Took it out to drive, and when I got home put it in Reverse but would not go up to Park. I was able to shut it off and get underneath and move the linkage manually to Park. But now I can start it up and when I go to put it in gear the shifter moves very freely and but it will not change from Park to anything else. The light on the dash shows Park lit and when you shift it goes off but never lights anything else on the tree. I am stumped, is it the new cable I just put on? Any thoughts guys would be appreciated. I have the trim panel off on the column and can see the shifter moving but it is like there is now tension on it at all.

2008 Silverado 1500 5.3L 4x4 4sp auto. A few weeks ago I went to start my truck and I got nothing, no cranking or anything. I grabbed the shift lever and went up and down with it a bit, then I was able to get it started. Once started it said "service 4x4" and "stabilitrak off" when driving it the transmission would shift very hard, like dropping into gear, not normal. Took it directly to the dealership, they couldn't find the issue, but found I needed the throttle position sensor changed, because it was a recall and my truck hadn't had it done yet. Truck worked fine after that. Yesterday it did it again, same thing when I went to start it the "service 4x4" was on only for a few seconds, then when I drove it the transmission was shifting really harsh. I searched around the past few days and I think I determined its 1 of 2 things. 1.) The neutral safety switch is faulty and not telling the computer what gear its in, then goes to default mode. 2.) Transfer case control module (TCCM) is faulty. I have a generic OBD2 code reader and it stated U0102, lost communication with transfer case control module. But how does this have anything to do with this issue when I was in 2wheel drive the entire time? I talked to the dealership today and they want me to "bring it in, we'll have a look at it" but I know what the answer will be, they won't see the issue unless it crops up while they are test driving it. Is the neutral safety switch easy to change? I might have a look at it and do it myself if its not too costly. My theory is that the neutral safety switch isn't telling the rest of the system what gear its in, so then the TCCM throws a code. Am I on the right track?

I have a 2003 2500HD silverado with the Allison transmission. A week ago I left home with it and the shifting was fine, but when I got to town it would not go into park. It shift through all other gears perfectly, but when I pull the shifter back it will slide up to where park is, but instead of locking in and engaging, it softly springs down into reverse, I'm not sure if I can adjust it or I need a new cable

Well I bought my first diesel yesterday. Got to drive it a whole day before it started giving me trouble. I was on the interstate in 6th gear (its a 6 speed) when there was a loud spinning noise coming from the shifter. I took it out of gear but the noise continued. I tried putting it back into gear but it didn't do anything. I tried dropping a gear and it still did nothing but now the noise had stopped. I pulled off and tried each gear and they all act as if the truck was in neutral. I checked the clutch fluid and it was fine but haven't really had an opportunity to look it over as I was on my way to work and had to get it towed back to the dealership. I feel like they will charge an arm and a leg for any repairs as it is not under any warranty because of its age and mileage (177k). Any info will help. Thanks.
