HID Headlight Bulbs / HID Projector Retrofit
loganbent replied to MotoMedic's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Similar issue with mine has just come up over the last week, installed my HID's in January of 2014 and in the last week they've started to not always turn on, as of this morning I can't get methe low beams to turn at all. I haven't checked with a multimeter yet(I'm out of town at the moment so don't have my normal tools) but the fuse is visibly good and the (1) relay clicks as I pull it out of the socket so I think the issue is downstream of that. 1.5 years for bulb life seems a bit low to me but I do have approximately 22k miles on them, they're both out nearly simultaneously which seems odd compared to bulb life for non HID units- 3,363 replies

2014+ Truck Bed / Tonneau Covers
loganbent replied to Green 1364's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Yes, the G4 requires the removal of (4) bolts to pull the cover off completely, weight is around 50 lbs give or take for the panels when removing them and they strap together nice and easy so for me it's not a problem to pull them off but someone else may have different feelings. I haven't had to remove them yet, but I installed them by myself so shouldn't be an issue. As a side note, I would add that when I open/close the tailgate, I normally do quickly open/close the back panel because otherwise when you shut the tailgate the back leaf weatherstrip will fold under the panel, popping up the back panel then shutting again puts the weatherstrip where it should be. -

Another shot of the truck. It's in pretty good condition given it's age, one clear thru rust hole at a cab corner, otherwise just minor rust spots, fenders need some work to get them straightened out but it'll all come in time. Right now....plans for it aren't complete, needed to get it picked up and hauled away to my place so that it was out of the seller's shed and nobody else tried to buy it. Sometime this summer it will end up in Las Vegas where FIL lives, for now it'll stay in Iowa in my shed as the plans and transport details get lined up. From talking with him as we hauled it back it will be a frame off job, flathead v8 likely gets swapped for a smallblock, new suspension and drivetrain. Body will stay as original as possible, new interior is a requirement as the floorpan and seat are both gone, truck is currently black and new paintjob will likely be black as well. Function is going to be important on this one as I think he wants this to be a fun driver and one he enjoys taking out to run errands, has a '71 Nova and a '47 Ford Coupe that don't go out on the road that much and I think this one will replace the Nova and become a frequent driver. -

2014+ Truck Bed / Tonneau Covers
loganbent replied to Green 1364's topic in Modifications & Accessories
That is a smoking deal, most of the prices I saw for Roll-X when I was looking was 700-825 which is one of the reasons I went with the Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite over the Roll-X. Had I seen that price on a new Roll-X I may have bought that one instead.....but oh well, I'm happy with mine and you're happy with yours so thats what matters! -

New truck is 400/year or so, old one('90 chevy) is $50.50 -
To me those would be too big and too bright for a bed light

2014+ Truck Bed / Tonneau Covers
loganbent replied to Green 1364's topic in Modifications & Accessories
The question was about the hard folding cover, not the soft folding cover. From a review of the gmaccessoryzone site the factory one is definitely the Fold-A-Cover -

Assuming the comments are correct and the GM Hard folding cover is the Fold-A-Cover G4, see the pic linked below on my review of that cover http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/156634-fold-a-cover-g4-elite-hard-folding-tonneau-cover-review/?p=1392966 -

Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite Hard Folding Tonneau Cover Review
loganbent replied to loganbent's topic in Vendor & Product Reviews
The rear pocket/hand hold is partially available, I took a picture of it and will try and get it uploaded over lunch. I didn't have a problem using it as a hand hold when installing the cover, but haven't tried accessing it with gloves yet....since the truck says -11 right now it should be a good time to try. Update: Took a picture of the rear pocket showing what is available, let me know if you'd like any more!- 28 replies

Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite Hard Folding Tonneau Cover Review
loganbent replied to loganbent's topic in Vendor & Product Reviews
Installation was pretty straight forward, well documented with pictures and instructions that were clear, easy to follow and accurate for my model(2014 Double Cab). I had watched the various installation videos on their website prior to purchase(and again prior to it arriving) so I had a good idea of what to expect. I am not going to review step by step install, just my thoughts on packaging, installation process and initial impressions of the cover, if you want step by step instructions hit their website up. Cover was shipped in (2) packages, a box with the panels and hardware and a tube with the rails. Packaging was good, panels were well protected from common shipping damage with a heavy cardboard box, foam corners and inflated air pockets. Open up the box and the cover panels come out easily and fully assembled ready to place on the truck once the rails are installed. Installation was straight forward, hardware worked as expected without any problems. In a couple spots they could probably swap out the hex head bolts for button heads using an allen wrench to give a little cleaner look but the included hardware does the job. I did not install the additional tailgate seal yet, I had enough other things I wanted to get done the night I installed this that I put that one off for later. The lock strikes took a bit of work to get adjusted, the locks have (2) latch points in them and if your latch strike is too deep(far away from teh panel) it can get the first latch point but not have enough downward travel to completely lock, once I realized that completing the lock strike adjustment was straight forward. First impressions, I'm happy with the cover and they appear to have done a nice job on all aspects of it. The fit/finish is very nice, everything aligns like it should. Materials are cut cleanly, no burrs, ragged cuts, offset screws etc. They put several extra items on the cover that help position it as a "polished" product that was well thought out and executed, even though they're primarily aesthetic and really don't have an impact on function. Example is the weatherstrips they used(shown below) to cover up the cable linkage used to actuate the locks, this has a bit of a functional purpose as it helps limit the ability of someone to "slim jim" the panel lock with a coat hook. It's not water proof by any means and I'm not expecting it to be, but should definitely keep 95% or more of mother nature out, allow me to store some of the common truck stuff in the bed instead of under a seat and still allow quick conversion to full bed capacity.- 28 replies

Had been searching for a hard folding tonneau cover and eventually decided on the Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite, purchased from their factory store. This will cover a couple of the criteria that I was looking for in a cover and why I chose the G4 Elite and my thoughts on the cover after installing it and having it for a grand total of 2 days so far. I will try and post an update in a couple weeks after I get some more time with it. When searching for a cover I was wanting a hard cover that allowed quick access to the entire bed and I had to be able to pull the cover/panels off anywhere as I often end up with impromptu purchases(dang craigslist) that are large enough to need the entire bed. After initial searching I had narrowed it down to likely either the BAK Fibermax or Roll-X, however after seeing several positive comments here on the Fold-A-Cover I took another look at it as I had intially ruled it out due to not being able to get full bed access as quickly as the BAK line or some others. After reading the manual and seeing that the Fold-A-Cover did come completely off by simply removing (4) easy to access bolts I took a deeper look at this cover. Main reasons I chose this cover as opposed to some of the other options: Front and rear opening-I like to keep a couple bags with tools/straps/trailer accessories and other truck stuff with me and this way I can keep those bags strapped toward the front of the bed for easy access Mounts on top of side rails-The stuff I find on craigslist generally tends to be large so getting the rails up on top of the bed means more room in the bed and less chance of damage to the rails This cover was roughly $175 more than the other one I was strongly considering and I'm sure that I would've been happy with it, but I felt that for me the features this cover had over some of the others were worth it to me.

2014+ Truck Bed / Tonneau Covers
loganbent replied to Green 1364's topic in Modifications & Accessories
Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite showed up today, installed and pretty happy with it, considering it hasn't left the garage and been used. Install was straight forward, instructions and video online were very well done and useful, maybe an hour to get it installed and mostly adjusted then another 30 or 45 minutes getting it adjusted to my liking. Initial impressions of the cover is that they appear to have thought it out and executed it nicely. Added some nice covers/weatherstrips/housings to hide various aspects that functionally aren't important but being concealed does give a nicer, finished appearance. Will try and get a more detailed review up in the review section with pictures if time allows this weekend. -
