  1. Well, don't base your leer purchase purely on my experience. It could just be one bad cap. I too need the pop out windows for the dogs. Unless it is a downpour, I usually remove the entire front window altogether from the cap to get the most airflow back there. With the new bed outlet I also plan to get my Ryobi fan setup back there to keep the temps cool for the dogs Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  2. You could use beer cans probably but I just grabbed a piece of galvanized sheet metal from the HVAC ductwork section at home Depot. It was maybe 2ft x 3 ft cost $7. It was the smallest piece they had that was flat. I don't remember what size clamps I used for the flapper as I had a few of those on hand. Just measure the diameter of the round knob on the flapper and add a half inch to get the clamp size. I got a flat galvanized rectangular bracket from the hardware section to go between the two clamps on the flapper. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  3. I told the local guy I would pay him for his time to install/uninstall the cap separately, and asked him to coordinate with leer to either make me a new cap or return it outright. Have not heard anything back. Maybe I am being overly picky, but the wind noise is the thing that bothers me most. Another option is my American Express card has buyer protection that I have used before. I bought and exhaust system that didn't fit right years ago and Auto Anything would not take it back because it had been installed. Amex stepped in and negotiated with the merchant to make them take it back. I have also considered taking the cap off and leaving it in my backyard on a pallet an just putting it on the few weeks a year I go camping and just deal with the issues I have with it and run a tonneau cover the rest of the year. 4. Just curious, how is the gap between the cap and the bed along the sides? The leer starts out tight, then seems to bow out in the middle to the point I can stick my entire hand in the gap. Looks really sloppy on the leer. Curious if the all do that or just Leer Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  5. I gave it the mustard pulling out of work yesterday, and this morning a co-worker asked me what aftermarket exhaust I put on my truck. Guess it must sound louder outside too. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  6. How was the cold start? Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  7. Make sure you use a brand new fresh battery. And hold the tool there for a while until the horn honks. The trailer tires seemed to take a good 15 seconds before it would honk the horn Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  8. I regret my leer 100xl. I would get the ARE if I had to do it over. This is my 5th leer cap. There were several paint defects, one of the rear pop out windows won't close and leaks, the front slider rattles like crazy and leaks water around the frame, the left side of the cap by the truck bed bows out on the driver side to the point I can stick all my fingers in the gap, and the worst is the cap sticks up almost 1.5 inches over the third brake light which to my ears makes enough wind noise at 70 mph that I can start to hear it over the radio. If memory serves, leer has 3 (?) factories and each will have its own form. So depending on where you are in the country you might not have any of the issues I have. I will say after seeing a post on here with the ARE and how the cap is tapered on top to match the rear brake light, it is clearly a better design that probably mitigates the wind noise I am hearing. So I don't usually bash a product but leer earned this one by sending me a piece of cr@p. And trust me this cap is going back as soon as we get back from camping this summer. 9. This one. It's like $15 on Amazon. It worked on my 16 z71 and it works on my 19 as well and did the Trailer tires. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  10. I don't recall which way they turn. I just look at the spring, you can see it compressing and getting tighter, that is the direction to rotate it. It's not an earth shattering difference but it is just enough to keep me from wanting shell out over a grand for a bolt on system or chopping up the pipes for a cut out or muffler delete Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  11. 5.3 has 1. I have heard 6.2 has one on either side. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  12. Clamped open flapper and covered all 6 exhaust screens. Cost me less than $20 at home depot. The exhaust screens first didn't do that much. Clamping open the flapper seemed to make the most difference. Side note. Check your flapper. Mine appeared to stuck and didn't want to open and close freely until I rotated it by hand several times. I would say it is now one notch below the borla touring I had on my 16 z71 5.3. I was also surprised with the flapper clamped open, I really didn't defect any of the helicopter noise I used to get on the 16 5.3 truck I had in V4. I do have duratacs for tires so maybe it does helicopter a little bit and I just don't hear it. I also like that it doesn't make a whistling noise as the air moves past the flapper valve that I used to hear when I had my back window open and stomped on it. I think the exhaust sounds just right now. Not quite hey look at me loud, it sounds like a real v8 now. Especially on a cold start. And if you don't like, I can put it back to stock in less than 5 minutes. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  13. Thanks for posting the pictures. I guess you get what you pay for. That is a top notch topper. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  14. I also like the ARE tailgate transition piece. It seems to fit the tailgate better than the Leer. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  15. Cold start this morning was definitely noticeably louder from the outside. I could hear a little rumble inside the cab, but as I suspected the hum of the duratac tires I have completely drowned out any increase in exhaust noise. If you had regular street tires, you could probably hear the difference. It did sound a touch louder on hard acceleration getting on the highway. For the $10 it cost me, sure sign me up. 16. Yeah I agree. The problem is the local installer is the one that gets screwed as he is the one that does all the work and I have used him for years and he is a great guy. I don't think leer has a return for refund option. They will just fix if it's broken. Real curious for a top pic of how the ARE looks at the top tailight. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  17. I covered mine up tonight with 6 clamps that were 2 3/4 in from home Depot and used a $7 piece of galvanized steel from the HVAC section and cut them in 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 squares. Even though it was a warm start, I would agree it definitely added a few decibels and some additional growl to the 5.3 on my trail boss. I can't wait to do a cold start tomorrow to hear the difference. I will probably also clamp open the flapper valve as I found on my 16 z71 that also increased the stock sound. 18. I think I like that better than the piece of cr@p leer sent me for $2000. How does the third brake light transition look to the cap? My leer is sticking up an inch or so above the third brake light and causing wind noise. Your ARE looked pretty flush? Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  19. Gotcha. Yeah I think I saw the gm dealers actually have a special tool to program them without the trailer. Did you get it to work? Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  20. The more i think of it, I would check the trailer app. You have to create a profile in the trailer app, then hit program tpms and walk around to every tire with the tool. So unless your tire guy is going to do that with the tpms sensors by themselves I don't see how it would work. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  21. I was going to do that too, but the Trailer app setup says they have to be installed first so I went that route. Maybe it doesn't matter. Let me know how you make out Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  22. Anyone else get the trailer TPMS system setup yet? Got it working in my travel trailer today. Shows tire temp and pressure. Sorry forgot to take a pic of the trailer hooked up to truck, but it will say for a 3500 lb Trailer the trail boss really seems to squat more than my 16 z71. Weight distribution hitch leveled it back out a bit. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  23. Got it to finally work. Had to delete Trailer profile and create a new one. Used my $20 tpms tool off Amazon... Shows tire temp and pressure which is nice. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
  24. Had the trailer tire sensors installed in my travel trailer. Went into the trailer app to setup the trailer TPMS. I have tpms tool. First tire honked, second tire wouldn't. Now I get a message in the dash to service Trailer TPMS system and it won't let me start the learn procedure again. Anyone else get this error? Also tip, make sure all the tpms sensors are pointed towards the truck when you mount the tires and put them on. I couldn't get any of them to learn till I moved the trailer so the valve stem was pointed towards the trailer. I got the first one to learn but when you put it in drive to rotate the other valve stem towards the truck it exits out of the learn procedure Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
