  1. I had a lifter failure at only 7500 miles. 2019 AT4 with 6.2. Likely happened earlier but I hadn’t got around to making appointment at dealer. I think it’s being caused by the DFM system which you currently can’t disable if you have a 10-speed.

  3. TFLtruck performed a drag race between the 5.3 and 6.2 this year. As I said above, 5.3 is slow once you have experienced the power of the 6.2. Sure...the tires make a difference between those two trucks....but still...the power of the 6.2 is in another league. Jump to the 4 min mark.
  4. 2019 AT4 (6.2) 20 inch wheels with the OEM Bridgestone tires. Every week I get 19-22 mpg. One trip from Austin - TX to the Gulf cost, 4 people, bed full of stuff, around 4 hr drive, average from start to end was 24.1 mpg. Pretty amazing really.
  5. In my opinion, dog slow. I test drove a 5.3 Trail Boss with 8-speed and decided against it. Another time tried the 5.3 Trail Boss with 10-speed and while better than the 8, still slow and decided against it. Went with a 6.2 10-speed AT4. Average 19-21 mpg every week. One 4 hr drive, Austin TX to Gulf coast, 4 people, bed full of stuff....averaged 24.1 mpg. You do not need to push the 6.2 hard because of the amount of power and torque it has.
  6. Crappy mileage??? My 6.2 AT4 easily gets 19-22 every week. A few months back I drove from Austin Texas to the Gulf coast. About a 4 hr drive, 4 people, bed full of stuff....average was 24.1 mpg. What were you getting in that High Country?
  7. I am afraid I cannot recommend a new GMC Sierra to you. I picked up my first GMC Sierra (AT4 with the 6.2 and 10 speed) in late December 2019. I am currently at 10,000 miles. Here is a list of the items that have occurred thus far: 1) Valve Lifter failure. Took a whole week to fix it. 2) Truck pulled to the right. They checked the wheel alignment and found a problem that they resolved. Went back a second time because I could still feel a pull to the right and they claimed that being in AUTO mode at that time made it pull to the right. Not sure I agree with that resolution. 3) Whole day in the body shop so that they could remove the front bumper and re-align it. It was not fitted correctly at the factory and had missing/bent brackets. 4) Camera system failed with message "Service Camera System". Dealer said they could not find any problems and it went away after restarting engine. 5) Camera system blue screened again today, maybe 6 months after the item above. Scheduled to go back into the dealer in 2 days to have them look at it again. 6) Multiple recalls. Some performed on the day I purchased it and the Brake System Malfunction Warning one when they were working the Valve Lift Failure. I traded in an almost 5 yr old RAM 1500 Hemi with the 8-speed. It was flawless! The only problem it had was a failed battery at 4.5 years that I quickly replaced. GMC need to do better than this. I want to love this AT4, the 6.2 and 10-speed is so good, but its already spent more time at the dealer than any other vehicle I have owned in 31 yrs of driving and I've owned many different brands. So with that, I cannot recommend a GMC Sierra at this time. Sorry.

  9. Most certainly a lifter issue. I just had my truck fixed today. 2019 GMC AT4 6.2 with 10-speed (DFM). 7500 miles. Only 6 months old. Do not listen to any dealer telling you that this is normal for these new engines. There is a TSB for this. Very disappointing after trading in a fault free 5 yr old RAM 1500 for this great truck.

  11. Finally picked up my truck from the dealer today. They told me that one of the Lifter springs had failed and per a GMC recommendation, they replace all the lifters on that side of the engine. Be warned and keep a watchful eye on similar newer engines with the DFM. Was not expecting this problem to occur on the newer trucks. Very disappointing. My truck has 7500 miles but for sure it was happening some months ago. I just decided, with all this COVID-19 stuff, to hang on until my first oil change and get it looked at then. I am gentle with my vehicles and take great care of them.
  12. Ugh. Wish I'd seen this thread before I purchased a brand new 2019 GMC AT4 with the 6.2 and 10-speed just 6 months ago. Heard a ticking noise some time ago but with COVID-19 impacting many businesses, I figured I would wait until the first service. My 7500 mile truck has been sitting at the dealer for almost a week. They told me today it has a failed lifter spring. WTF. This truck is brand new. I will know more when I get it back and check out the work they did. 5 years with a RAM and never had one single issue. I love this AT4 but will have to make sure I get rid of this before the powertrain warranty expires. Sucks.
  13. I should add that my local dealer told me that while they have not seen similar problems with 6.2 10-speed DFM models, its been raised by other dealerships. This suggests that others are indeed impacted.
  14. Great question. It was simply time to replace my truck and I wanted something different. My initial focus was on a Chevrolet Trail Boss and due to having a relationship with a local Chevy dealer, I managed to get an extended weekend with a 5.3 Trail Boss that had the 8-speed. While I loved the look of the truck and I so badly wanted to love it, it did not excite me at all. My HEMI 5.7 with the 8-speed drove much better than the 5.3 with the 8-speed. My local RAM dealer told me to try a Rebel and so I did and managed to get that for a long weekend. It does not look as good as the Trail Boss but driving it was a big improvement on the Trail Boss and my own 2015 RAM. The Rebel felt like a much classier vehicle than the Trail Boss, but for me, it was another RAM and I wanted to try something different. I held off and waited for the Chevy 5.3 Trail Boss with the 10-speed and once again, felt disappointed in the way it drove. At that time the 6.2 Trail Boss was talked about but not yet available. The AT4 seemed overpriced and much more than I wanted to spend. Despite this I gave it a try and loved it. For sure it is not perfect. The front seats are way to firm and uncomfortable and it does not corner like the RAM. But that 6.2 and 10-speed are just awesome. I was happy getting 17-18 mpg on average in my RAM but in this AT4 I am easily getting 19-22 mpg. I hated the cylinder deactivation in the RAM and would turn it off but I've not felt the need to get upset with the DFM in the AT4 (until now). I love the little things like the heads up display, the 360 cameras and that tailgate. Getting $10,500 off MSRP made it affordable. I never considered the F150 as I could't live with some Ecoboost V6 and the interiors of the Jap trucks looked awful. I've been bragging about this AT4 but are now a little down about it and its the first time I have ever had a new vehicle in all my years of driving that needs such major repair work in the first few months of ownership.
  15. I do not understand the question about ship from Dodge? Do you mean why did I select a GMC vs a new RAM?
