  1. Had them do an engine flush and oil change and all is good now back to 40 psi and no lifter tick. If it drops to 20 psi again I'll probably drop the pan and check out the pickup tube
  2. Mechanic said that 20 psi is more than enough and it isn't worrying him and that if the psi was too low all the lifters would be ticking. I asked why it stopped after a fresh oil change after it went back to 40psi and he said he didn't know, also asked why throttle was making the psi go down he didn't know. Book time to drop the pan and do the pickup tube is 3.5 hours so like 400 bucks I dunno if I should just have them do that but he said it's not going to do anything. Might be worth trying tho since replacing a lifter is going to be $$$$ they said they'd have to take the whole engine out but I don't know if that's true
  3. Thanks everyone I was using mobil synthetic oil and an ac Delco filter, I think I'm going to say not to replace the lifter and just drop the pan and clean it out /replace the pickup tube o ring and see what happens, book time on that has to be a hell of a lot less than replacing a lifter
  4. Hello, I have a 2006 Silverado 5.3. 140k About 1000 miles into my last oil change I noticed a lifter tick and the oil pressure was reading 20(usually it would read 40 during driving). The oil pressure also started to drop with higher rpms instead of increase. So I changed my oil and filter and did an engine flush because it seemed like oil flow was being clogged with something. After the oil change everything was better and I was back at 40 psi and it would increase with throttle. But this only lasted 400 miles before going back to the 20 psi. I took it to a shop and they diagnose it as a bad lifter and to me it doesn't seem like a bad lifter would be causing the low oil pressure, to me it seems like the low oil pressure is causing the lifter to tick. Any ideas? I don't have the money to replace a lifter and not fix the truck
  5. The exhaust manifolds all have new shiny bolts so I'm assuming the previous owner had them fixed. Is the oil pickup tube on my passenger side? The reason I ask is that when I was having my two driver's side tires replaced they had the left side of my truck lifted up and I remember thinking about how it wasn't making the ticking noise which I thought was weird. It took them forever and it never made a noise. Still it seems like my psi is okay from what I've read ~35 psi hot idle, 42 psi hot driving.
  6. thanks for taking the time to reply had the oil changed about 500 miles ago, the oil filter is a penzoil pz-48 and i just got whatever synthetic blend they had at the valvoline i got my oil changed at. i think tomorrow i'm going to add a quart of oil and let it idle for a bit and see if the o-ring is the issue, and then change my oil using 1 qt of mystery oil and 5qt synthetic and use a ac delco filter and see if the problem still persists after a couple weeks
  7. 5.3l sometimes at idle when my engine is warm, i'll get a loud ticking. this only happens after the engine is warm and i've been idling for like 5-10 minutes. If i rev the engine to 2k rpms the ticking will increase in speed with the engine, but then after 30 seconds the ticking will go away for a few minutes then come back. so now if i'm sitting in my truck in idle while i'm on lunch at work, once the trucks warmed up i have to rev the engine every few minutes to get the ticking to go away. my oil pressure at warm idle is around 35-40, when i'm on the highway it goes to like 45, cold start is about 40. I Just bought it recently and the oil was pretty dark when i changed it. I've read so many different things to fix this that i'm not sure where to begin. such as: motor flush, lucas oil, replacing 1qt of oil with ATF, etc. anyone with any insight would be appreciated, I am glad that there is no issue when i am actually driving, but i am trying to see what i can do to prevent this from getting worse.
  8. Wow I was hoping it wasn't the o ring issue since I have good oil pressure
  9. I just bought this 2006 silverado with 110k miles on it, and the oil was really dark, not sure when the previous owner changed the oil last. I put some new oil in it but I am unsure if this sound is normal on these engines. it's not super noticeable. I was thinking of adding some seafoam to the oil and see if that helps? I just replaced the oil sensor since it was pegging to 80, and i have decent oil pressure at 40 on startup so i don't think the oil pressure is the issue.
  10. the stock size i think was 265/70R17 I need to buy new tires and was just wondering if i can just get the 275/65R18 tires, or if this is bad and maybe the owner messed up something by putting on the bigger wheels? i don't know if it has a lift or anything, can't really tell. i attached a picture if it's helpful at all.
