  1. Since starting this thread I have put 43k miles on my 22 trailboss custom. I had to have an evap part replaced recently but my extended warranty covered it. This has been my favorite truck to date and will keep it as long as I can.
  2. My 22 trailboss threw a code and had to replace the evap purge pump (pretty sure that’s what it was called lol). Dealer said they had to do a bunch. Mine was covered under extended warranty and was fixed quickly. Had zero ill effects. I hate all these friggin emissions. This was at 40k miles. I pretty much expected to have an evap failure of some kind around 40k, maybe I have bad luck but it happens with all my cars no matter the brand, mainly due to dust on my farm I think. This is still my most favorite truck I have owned and I’ve owned a bunch!
  3. That’s great to hear! My truck has 40k on it with no issues. I was going to get the transmission, diff ect… changed out and the dealer said not to unless it was acting funny. I’m going to take it to the next town over’s dealership I think. Has your oil consumption stayed the same? Mine might use a little oil sometimes but it certainly hasn’t gotten worse. I change my oil between 3000-4000 miles. The evap systems on all new cars are a huge pain, we live on a dusty farm and all of our cars end up with clogged or malfunctioning evap systems eventually, no matter what the brand.
  4. I’ve been running super tech 20k mile synthetic oil and it seems to use less oil than Mobil 1 ep. It’s not a huge difference though and no t a big deal since I change my oil at 3500 miles typically.
  5. At least they are replacing the engine. I had a 2018 Nissan Armada and a 2018 Nissan titan both had to have their engines replaced that being said afterword the titan has been flawless and has been a really great truck Armada we sold off. Things happen it’s what the dealer does in response to it that matters. That being said, I haven’t had a lick of trouble with my 2.7 Silverado.
  6. I have the 5.3 and a 2.7, both the same year close to the same miles and the 2.7ho gets better mileage as in 14.5 vs 18 (currently in cold temps and off road tires). Which isn’t mind blowing but is something. Small displacement turbocharged engines are here to stay, all the new emissions standards guarantee the death of the v-8. I don’t like it either but the 2.7 is a pretty good engine and so far has had less issues than the 5.3’s. I’m not calling it durable till we see some 250k plus trucks that still run well, we know the 5.3’s can with good maintenance. The transmissions not so much lol.
  7. Let it sit for several hours and then check the oil again. I had that happen once and I went back out and checked it later, and it was halfway up the stick.takes a long time for it to drain sometimes for whatever reason.
  8. My experience has been a lot more oil used in a dealer fill, not sure why, I use Mobil 1 ep usually. Also it doesn’t use oil at lower speeds only with a lot of 75mph + speeds. I suspect it is emissions related and inhaled through the egr/pcv valve. My consumption is very minor though. I still check the oil all the time. I also know the engine retains a lot of oil so you have to let it sit over night if you want to get most of it out. I change my oil every 3500-4000 miles so I ll never run low regardless. Most modern engines use a little oil now a days.
  9. I drive a 2.7ho and a 5.3 both 2022’s both now have just over 30k miles. I personally like the 2.7 better, it feels more responsive. The 5.3 gets 4 to 5 mpg worse mileage. I have had no serious problems with either. The 2.7ho pulls a trailer just as well as a 5.3 and might have a slight edge mpg wise but the lead shrinks here. If the 2.7 makes it to 250k without a major malfunction I will be happy and classify it as better than the 5.3 but that has yet to be seen.
  10. What caused your engine to blow? Lack of oil?
  11. I have used my 2022 trail boss extensively up here in ND in temps down to -30’s f and in deep snow. I pretty much keep it in auto for not so deep snow and if it gets over a foot or two I’ll put it in 4wd. So far I haven’t been stuck and I live on a farm 2.5 miles from the black top, sometimes it takes 4 days for a plow to get out to my place so these are some serious conditions. The 2.7 has been great I honestly like it better than my 5.3’s. I definitely trust it more, GM v8’s have been having serious problems with their valve trains for years, sort of a roll of the dice whether you get a good one.
  12. So who has the most miles on a 2.7? There has to be some folks with 150k+ by now, right?
  13. I’m not going to worry about the tranny temp, I haul all sorts of stuff and the tranny temps stay constant whether loaded or not. I know they are higher than what people are used to but that’s where they designed the temps to be. Not to mention it gets down to sub zero often into the -20’s and 30’s, 4 months out of the year here so don’t want over cooling.
  14. I honestly think my 22 2.7 Ho trailboss has a more pick up and go than my 22 5.3 Tahoe (granted it’s close). I tow my lund 1875 crossover 200 miles round trip just about every weekend . The truck tows great and gets about 14mpg pulling that boat. I have no complaints. I have 21k miles on mine a good portion of that is pulling the lund or my duck boat depending on the season. I want to hear from some guys with 150k on their 2.7’s. There has to be some out there by now, right?
  15. I used the GM oil filter pf66 I believe, I might be wrong about the part number but it is the GM factory part.
  16. I changed out my winter 0w-30 oil for new m1 ep 5w-30. I only dumped 5 quarts so it either used or retained a quart over 4K miles. I couldn’t wait a couple hours for the oil to drain down like I usually do so might be part of it. This engine seems to retain oil more than most after shut down. The truck has 20k on it now.
  17. Well how about this, I notice it less than when we pulled it with our Armada and less than with my old 1993 f250 diesel and about the same as with my 2018 Nissan TITAN. If you’ve tow a lot like some of us you’d understand the saying as there’s some vehicles that require more attention than others. This truck is very capable. I’m also used to towing and don’t fret over it, it comes with experience and confidence. you obviously can’t drive a truck the same with a trailer as without. Doesn’t mean a person is being unsafe, it’s just a saying. It pulls as good as a 5.3. Lol
  18. I drive both, 2.7ho and the 5.3 and they are honestly pretty equivalent. I think if you were to be disappointed with the 2.7 you would definitely be disappointed with the 5.3 too and might need to move up to an HD truck. For towing boats and normal sized trailers and campers for leisure the 2.7 has exceeded my expectations. Great mpg’s at reasonable speeds are a bonus.
  19. I pull a 19’ boat with mine and it pulls great, I forget it’s back there. Get 12-14mpg’s while pulling it but it’s flat here.
  20. Lol, plenty here, gonna get another 8” of snow this weekend unfortunately.
  21. I’ve had a couple turbo underboost codes that were caused by air filter icing up from ice fog.
  22. I usually use Mobil 1 EP in my vehicles. When I run 0w-30 it the advanced fuel mileage stuff because it’s all I can find locally that has the dexos rating. The 2.7 Ho starts like a champ in cold weather. The 5.3 stutters a bit and takes longer to start but it does start every time so it’s really a non-issue as long as it doesn’t get worse. The 5.3 had an issue where it started missing and sounded like it had dropped a valve. Had to take it in to the dealer and they checked the codes and reset everything and has worked fine ever since. The power of the 2 engines (2.7 & 5.3) are very similar to the point where I guess I wouldn’t take one over the other. Now if one makes it to 200k miles and the other doesn’t or things start breaking, that’s what matters at this point. We know the 5.3 is pretty durable but the long term service of the 2.7ho is unknown.
  23. The 5.3 is a 2022 and uses 0w-20 synthetic, it’s dealer maintained so GM dealership oil. It has 13k miles on it. A lot of cars struggle especially when it’s in the -20’s. I had a 4Runner that would absolutely not start in temps below -25f. It tripped a sensor and caused a no start situation, Toyota knew about it and basically said it was to protect the engine and transmission my buddies Tacoma did the same thing. If you plugged the engine block heater in overnight it would start but you don’t always have that luxury. The actual temperature tonight here will be -20 to -30f with wind chill of -55f .
  24. My 5.3 struggles to start in sub zero weather where as the 2.7 has no issues. I imagine the 5.3 has more mass to spin. Now that said they both eventually start so not a big deal but they are new. I like them both, the 5.3 definitely sounds cooler, lol.
