  1. My truck was built 05/22 so I guess i safe . I’ve seen that exchanger while serving my Trailboss, interesting they used one instead of just running it straight through the radiator, I mean it’s still using the radiator fluid to heat/cool the tranny. It must be part of the new upgraded cooling package GM talks about. It’s supposedly made to warm everything quicker and keep it at optimum temps to get better efficiency. should be a simple fix for you at least, I hope it works out for you.
  2. Yup and you can only get a z71 2.7 if you buy a trailboss. They won’t sell the 2.7 truck with the z71package without it. Why I don’t know.
  3. Mine froze up too the other day, it was stuck in camera mode and the radio wouldn’t stop playing even after exiting the vehicle and locking it. Hope this isn’t a common thing.
  4. Hopefully this will lend itself to more aftermarket parts. I say bring ‘em on!
  5. The 2.7 high output engine (2nd generation)does have a different more rigid block, a new stiffer crank (30% more material) and crank bearings, they are supposed to be similar to Diesel engine bearings, whatever that means lol. So there are material differences from the 1st generation.
  6. Back to the intake filter, I’ve always been told that the k&N didn’t have very good filtration. What are y’all’s thoughts on that? I’d rather have more protection vs power….. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sJ3L-E-ufYo
  7. Yup, I agree. I drive 5.3’s and 5.0’s 1500 trucks everyday and they don’t have anything on the 2.7HO. I drove the 3.0 diesel and honestly didn’t like it that much. I think people automatically think a diesel is a better tow truck which is not the case either. The 2.7 has more horsepower and only 30ft lbs less torque so you are dead on about it being in between those two In Performance. Honestly all three are close and all 3 kick my 5.0 Ford F-150 and even my old 1993 7.3 diesel’s butts in every respect. Folks are super biased because it’s a 4 banger. It also handles in a more balanced way since the weight distribution is different. I’m in Northern North Dakota and live on a remote farm so will get plenty of chances to test it in 20-40 below zero and deep snow I guarantee you lol. I’m not on Facebook so thanks for that info! It’s good news. I’m friends with a couple Chevy mechanics and they both switched to 2.7’s for their new trucks. They tell me they are way more reliable than the v-8’s. Honestly it’s the only reason I even considered it, glad I did. Of course the proof is in the pudding and am looking forward to hearing from folks with 150-200k trouble free miles.
  8. Wow, that sucks. I have t heard of this defect before with the 2.7’s might be a freak thing. I’d make sure they extend your warranty on their dime. Sounds like a defective radiator since the transmission lines are in there?
  9. I just made it to my first oil change in my 2022 refresh Trailboss with a 2.7ho. I love this engine! I drive all sorts of different full-size trucks including ford 5.0’s and Chevy 5.3’s. This engine is equivalent to a 5.3 in most respects, anyways the big unknown is how long will these last. Who has the most miles on one? Have you had any real issues?
  10. Yeah, try owning a trailboss I can barely see over the sides into the bed. Driving through a parking garage is down right nerve wracking, lol!
  11. I chose the 2.7ho on my new 2022 refresh trailboss. I drove the 3.0, 5.3 and the 2.7. I wasn’t impressed by the 3.0 it seemed laggy and sluggish compared to the 5.3 & 2.7, not by a whole lot though, then there’s the fact that diesel fuel is 20-25% more expensive than gas plus you have to use def so that adds to the cost, maintenance is always more expensive, most of the many diesels I’ve owned over the years cost twice as much to maintain. Then once the engine is out of warranty the major parts that fail cost far more than a gas engine. It did come with a standard 100k warranty though. That doesn’t mean it’s going to last longer than a well built gas engine though, small diesels are a crap shoot. Basically the cost of ownership even with the better mileage wasn’t as good as the gas engines. The 5.3 is a good engine but has been having some major problems like valve spring failure ect… I’m friends with a couple Chevy mechanics and they told me the 2.7 has way fewer issues in their experience. I drive 5.3’s all the time and after driving the 2.7ho felt that the 2.7 was equal to it but gleaned better mpg’s plus I enjoyed the drive quality more, which is hard for me to describe what exactly it is. It also came with discounts adding up to several thousand over the diesel or v-8s. Most of the miles on my truck in the summer are towing and it has been great! I also drive a new 2022 Tahoe every day with the 5.3 and it’s fine as well, all 3 were admittedly close in performance. The 2.7 runs at 1500rpms most of the time so I’m not sure why it would have a shorter life and turbos are much cheaper than they used to be so not worried about having to replace it post 100k but I’m sure it’ll last longer than that, only time will tell. We have had ford eco boost engines and put gobs of hours on them and ridden them hard with no majors issues so just not worried about it.
  12. My updated 2022 trailboss is a 2.7ho. It comes with a 2” lift and oversized tires from the factory. It’s just as strong as the 5.3’s I use at work and fuel economy is better…..
  13. I have an updated 2022 2.7ho trailboss I have 3500 miles on it. When it was new it would have a little clunk going into 1st from a hard stop. I took it in to the dealer and they checked it all out and said it would be learning for the first few thousand miles and not to worry about it as it would go away as it learned. Sure enough it did. Now it’s smooth as butter. Love the 2.7ho fyi. I drive 5.3’s at work and both feel about the same power wise.
  14. I have 3500 miles on my 2022 trailboss custom 2.7ho. 2000 of those miles are towing and it does a great job. It tows as well as the 5.3’s and better than the ford 5.0’s we use at work. I get 12-14 mpg’s towing the boat pictured depending on wind direction.
