  1. I’m an optimist too, I think this engine has a chance of being more reliable and longer lasting than the current v-8 models. I drive both, a ‘22 5.3 and a ‘22 2.7ho. Difference in performance is minimal, the 5.3 struggles to start more in the cold and has had to be taken in for a couple weird engine issues that thankfully weren’t that bad, one day it sounded like it dropped a valve but once the computer reset it was fine. The dealer couldn’t tell me what it was. Y’all better get used to smaller turbo engines, with federal emissions standards thats what you will be left with in the future. I’d rather have a straight 4 vs a v-6, it is easier to build a stout 4 and the larger cylinders spool up the turbo much faster, so you get better response.
  2. I pull a couple different boats, my walleye boat is a new lund crossover 1875xs. I have no idea how much it weighs but with a full load of fuel and all our junk in it, I’d say it’s over 5k but a total guess. My 22 trailboss has the 2.7HO and it tows as good as my old 5.3 suburban did. I forget it’s back there sometimes lol. I average 14npg pulling it.
  3. I haven’t noticed any mpg gains with my trailboss using M1 0w-30 but the winter is a bad time to test for that since we let the vehicle warm up a long while and have to use 4x4 ect…. I do suspect my engine is now fully broken in as I haven’t had any oil usage over the last several oil changes. I have been changing the oil at 3k miles since I’m using 0w-30 and it’s been cold and I have been short tripping it. I know there’s fuel dilution, I can smell it. I’ve settled on Mobil 1 0w-30 in the winter and m1 ep 5w-30 the rest of the year.
  4. 150k is further than I expected, seems like it might end up being a durable engine.
  5. Great, video, I’d like to know how many miles they simulated on the torn down engine.
  6. I live in the coldest part of ND, we get AK cold. Weeks on end of sub-zero weather in a shot. the coldest recorded temperature here was -60f but the coldest I can recall personally was -46f. You want to talk about some crazy vehicle noises. We get down in the -30’s every year.
  7. I’ve started my truck down to -30f (actual temps) with no funny noises like in the video, but not unusual for brand new properly functioning vehicles to make weird noises in those temps. Only way to know for sure is to take it in I suppose. It’s been a lot warmer this year so only got down to -30f one morning so far -10 to -20 is pretty common though. lately it’s been in the 20’s and 30’s, almost t-shirt weather! Lol
  8. Ok, that’s good that engine sounded awful lol, I edited my post above about the tranny clunk. Hopefully it’s helpful.
  9. What oil are you using? I have started mine down in the -25f range and my engine doesn’t make the valve clicking noise or the other noise at all. When it’s real cold I’ll go out and start it while I’m standing there so I can hear any weird noises. I’ve been using Mobil 1 0w-30 oil as recommended in the manual for conditions below -20f. I have also started it in sub zero weather with the stock 5w-30 oil (before the real cold weather hit) with no problems or noises. I change my oil between 3 and 4K miles if that makes a difference. As for the transmission clunk, is your truck new? Mine did that during the learning phase and ultimately worked itself out to where is shifts great no clunk. I complained about it and the dealer might have reset it, forcing it to relearn where I live and not in a city where I had been. I think it’s constantly relearning and it hasn’t really done it since the first few thousand miles. Most likely a learning thing not a bad tranny thing but I’d take it in to the dealer if I were you.
  10. As long as I’m running Mobil 1 in my 2022 refresh TB, it seems to not use oil. I’m running 0w-30 in it now as it’s been getting down to -30f some mornings and it hasn’t used a drop in 3000 miles. The one time I noticed big oil usage was on a long hard running trip with dealer oil shortly after I bought the truck. I’m not sure if it was still breaking in or what.
  11. I have a truxedo cover on my 2022 2.7 Ho trailboss and don’t really see a difference in the mileage but man is it handy when grocery shopping ect… I now have 3k on my m1 0w-30 oil change with no oil consumption. It’s been down below -20 the last couple mornings and supposed to stay cold for a couple weeks. Glad I put it in, will change it in the next 1k miles like I always do.
  12. Mine is the stock lift which is 2” over the normal silverado. I live in North Dakota so the temps are sub-zero much of the time and pretty much below freezing from October to April so that impacts the mpg’s. I very rarely average in the 20’s . The 2022 ltds have the first version of the 2.7 in them mine is the high output version. The HO tune doesn’t get as good of gas mileage. I was just talking to a couple guys who traded their old 2019 2.7’s in for the new 2023 HO version and they said the drop in mileage was pretty big but that they can feel the boost in power. So it’s a trade off.
  13. My trailboss is the opposite, I get 19 around town and 16 on the Highway average. It really depends on the wind though, the truck is so high off the ground it has a big effect on mpg’s.
  14. Mine seems to only use oil when run really hard at high speeds. It doesn’t use enough to worry about in between oil changes but I change my oil every 3-4K miles. I will say Mobil 1 ep seems to use almost no oil between changes in normal use. I’m about to put Mobil 1 0w-30 in since our temp have been getting down in the -20f’s. I haven’t had any issues with starting in these temps but better for the engine with cold starts I think. The trail boss has been really excellent in deep snow. We had 2 feet of snow and then 40 mph winds. The road to our farm wasn’t plowed for several days and the only vehicle that could make it out was my trailboss. The conditions were really bad but she handled it just fine and I never felt like I was going to get stuck.
  15. Yeah, I think most dealerships don’t use GM oil, they use the cheapest oil of spec they can find. I’ll be switching to 0w-30 Mobil 1 soon as the morning temps here have already gotten down to -27f.
  16. I normally don’t have oil consumption but the last 4 k miles I had some but it was run super hard and at high speeds for extended periods. Haven’t used any this oil change at 2k miles. I use Mobil 1 ep but the previous oil change was done by the dealer with whatever they use.
  17. Everyone comments on my 1993 7.3 NA diesel f-250 in town. Lots of offers to buy it, and lots of comments on what a great tow truck it is. The fact is I have towed some pretty crazy stuff with it……slowly. It is do to gearing and suspension. It had 185hp and 388ft lbs of torque new. My 2.7 trailboss kicks it’s butt power wise and comfort ect…. We are truly spoiled now a days.
  18. I drive both the 5.3 and 2.7 both 2022’s and they are pretty close. The 5.3 has a little more edge in some cases but the 2.7 is better in town. Very close.
  19. Honestly I’m more worried about gasoline diluting the oil. These definitely do that and is why I change the oil every 3k-4K. I’ve had a couple Chevy mechanics say most major engine problems were caused by folks following the change engine oil light and not changing the oil at more frequent intervals and these are friends that know I change my own oil so no sales pressure. Now Chevy has had a history of engines that defectively consumed oil like the 5.3’s from 2007 to like 2014. So this should be in the backs of our minds and we shouldn’t discount what others are seeing wholesale.
  20. I’ll keep and eye on mine, so far no issues. I had an oil consumption issue with my 2008 suburban that i bought new and the dealer said 1 quart every 1500 miles was acceptable lol. I sold it at 100k and was totally reliable but always used oil. My next car a Subaru was almost as bad. My Toyotas, nissans and Hondas don’t use any oil nor did my f-150. I have the HO engine you guys with the ltd’s have the 1st gen 2.7, so maybe they fixed it with the newer generation I know mine has a different block pistons and crank, supposedly to make it more durable.
  21. I just hit 8k miles on my ‘22 refresh 2.7 ho trailboss. At least half those miles were trailering a couple different boats and 50% of those miles were off road and on gravel. So far it’s been a great truck and I’m definitely not wanting for power. We live out in the boonies and much of the winter we will have to pile through snow and big drifts just to get to blacktop. That’s why I chose the trailboss. Will let y’all know how it goes once the snow starts and a couple -35f cold starts. The engine block heater is around a $1000 to install afterwards so make sure y’all order it with your truck!
  22. The 2.7 has a very advanced cooling system that I honestly wouldn’t mess with.
  23. Mine was probably updating when I double punched the start button. I noticed now with the new updates it will tell me that the truck will be down for updates for a few minutes. I can’t remember if it gave me an option to by pass. I will say after the last couple updates the system has been much smoother.
  24. I check mine in the morning after it’s sat over night and it’s always at the same hash mark.
  25. I changed mine at 3500 miles then again at 7500 miles and I didn’t lose any oil. It’s a 2022 ho 2.7l.
