  1. I park on flat surfaces normally. Hardly ever need the park brake. Definitely not due to me setting the brake manually. It never makes the noise during the heat of the summer. I’d say over about 65F I’ve never heard it.
  2. Hello, I have a 2023 Sierra Pro X31 4x4 with the 5.0L. It has less than 10K miles and still under warranty. Since new I noticed that in cold weather it makes what sounds like a brake scrubbing noise when I first start rolling after initial start-up. Once I roll a few feet it makes no other noise until it sits and gets cold soaked again. I assumed it was some sort of anti-skid test and thought no more of it. Today we have single digit temps with lots of snow in TN. It’s the coldest I’ve operated the truck since new. I had to use 4-low for the first time for necessity to get out of the driveway. I noticed the same noise was extremely pronounced and lasted a bit longer than usual today. Does anyone know what this noise might be and if it’s normal? I hate to take it to the dealer if not necessary. The truck has never been back to the dealer and completely trouble free other than this noise. Thanks!
  3. Day 2 of running in L9 instead of drive. This was my “no radio day” observation. Focused on engine tone, acceleration, and feel. -The drivetrain seems to decelerate more rapidly when I let off the gas pedal than when the transmission is in drive. It’s as if it’s being geared down a bit more during the deceleration. -To be expected, I notice a hint of a difference in tone due to all cylinders operating. -It may have a bit more torque on the initial touch of the gas pedal during casual accelerations. I didn’t have the opportunity for any rapid accelerations. -At idle (stopped while in L9) there appears to be an ever so slight vibration felt throughout the truck. I’m talking almost unperceivable but it’s there. It’s a mid to high frequency vibration felt while holding it stopped with the brake. -In drive (not L9) I feel zero vibrations regardless of conditions. So smooth! My guess is that the DFM must help this engine balance itself out when active. I can’t even tell things running. Really amazing! It’s such a shame this technology hasn’t been more reliable.
  4. Great info! Had no idea that running in L9 would disable the DFM. I tried it today. Couldn’t tell any difference in the way it runs. Still a low RPM.
  5. Interesting, I haven’t considered driving in L9. Is that better for the transportation somehow? It does run a super low RPM, especially in slow traffic. Yeah, that auto start/stop is a ******! Wish there was someway to disable that crap!!!!! I worry about the DFM issues as well. My understanding is that disabling it makes it run on all 8 alright but doesn’t exactly solve the problem. The DFM hard parts (that tend to fail) are still installed.
  6. They’ve been out long enough now.. I’ve talked with coworkers who’ve pumped up some decent mileage without issues. How’s yours holding up? Recommendations for maintenance, avoiding lifter issues, etc? Purchased mine new in Jul 2023. It was fresh off the car hauler, not one that had been sitting during Covid. Mexico build. I’ve had zero issues. Haven’t been back to the dealership once since. I was super deliberate during the 500 mi break in period. Varied the rpm per the manual. Well, book says “speed” but I mainly focused on smoothly varying RPMs for increasing intervals. This involved a LOT of backroad driving in manual mode. Ultimately ran some fairly high RPMs. Changed oil at 3K (probably should’ve changed it at 500mi) after the break in period. Changed it again at 7K. I only have 8,200 miles currently but couldn’t be happier. -Oil: Valvoline Extended Protection 0W20. -Undercarriage: Day 1. Applied Zip Cor-Ban 35 or Zip D-5067NS to all exposed metal, hardware, etc. -Fuel treatment: AC Delco 10-3012 prior to 2nd oil change. I intentionally add this 1-2 fuel tanks prior to the oil change. Will do it every 3rd oil change going forward. -Fuel type: Only use Top Teir gas. Cosco is my choice. Cheap and certified on the TT list.
  7. Feedback is greatly appreciated. Please list the problems you had with your truck, especially with the 5.3 engine! I started this thread 1.5 years ago. I’ve had zero issues with my Mexican GMC truck. I only have 5,000 miles on the truck but it’s been completely uneventful. Garage keep. Only gets driven on nice days and occasional short road tips. It’s only been off road twice. Once it was a big grassy hill in Arkansas while pulling a jon boat. The 2nd off road experience was a sandy hill in southern Alabama. Both times I was pleasantly impressed with it’s capabilities. I changed the oil myself at 3,500 miles. Hopefully the good times last. jimbeau
  8. Thanks for sharing your info. I recently noticed the Owner’s Manual recommends using only Top Tier fuels, which I always comply with. It also says that if not used Top Tier fuels a GM fuel additive should be used at certain intervals. Hmm…Seems to reason.
  9. Forget to mention that newdude’s comments are also correct. While giving me confirmation on the latest P/N, the dealership parts guy also mentioned exactly what’s in new dude’s post. Dealers purchase in different quantities and different origins, which change the part numbers accordingly. He also said P/N’s in the owners manuals are out dated before they are even printed! He went through the P/N history with me. My 2023 has had 2 revisions in filter numbers since my owners manual was printed. Of course some that change was due to Covid 19 supply chains.
  10. I called my GMC parts department this morning. Gave them my vehicle information and the part number specified in the owners manual for the PF63. They confirmed the latest GM part number is indeed now 12735811.
  11. Thanks for the info! I’ve done a lot of searching. Just read that the GM numbers mentioned have superseded to the 12735811. I tried inputting the numbers into a couple GM part sites. The sites I used listed 12735811 as the current and shows it replaces the others
  12. I’d like your feedback on using Valvoline Extended Protection or Pennzoil Platinum in a newer 5.3 GMC truck engine. I’ve read a number of positive in-depth reviews of both. They both seem to have an impressive amount of additives as confirmed by Blackstone Lab reports. Both also seem to be well stocked and available at my local store. Any good or bad experiences with one vs the other in the current 5.3s? I’m particularly interested any reports of excess oil consumption or lifter noise. I understand that any brand of Dexos1 will work but with the number V8 issues GM’s had I’d like to hear firsthand from other truck owners.
  13. What the heck is the deal with AC Delco part numbers? For the PF63 I’ve found 3 different part numbers. My 2023 5.3 manual says to use GM part number 12707246. I’ve found 2 other GM part numbers for a PF63. 12735811 and 12731742. See pics.
  14. STC responded to my email: Now I’m even more confident about not using their product. my email: I’m confused About your S10590XL filter. Tried to purchase two of them and realized theres 2 versions with the same exact part number. One is about an inch longer than the other. Please Explain? Response: Thank you for contacting STP. Regarding your inquiry, Kindly note that the Oil Filter is a licensed product by AutoZone. Please contact AutoZone to get further assistance. We have provided their contact information below. Wow. Glad I went with a legit PF63 instead is dealing with the A..Z BS
  15. Great thank you. I’m sticking with stock after seeing the variations.
