  1. There are 2 fuses on mine. We just ran the wrong power source is all. We didn't realize that location was fused is all. Now it's run from the battery. There's a 50 amp circuit breaker right off the battery and then there is a fuse box for the compressors in the toolbox. Each compressor has it's own 20amp fuse. So if something blows up it somehow got past double fuses. Sent from my Find7 using Tapatalk
  2. Figured out the cause of the trailer system warning. We hooked the compressors to the post on the fuse box. Well apparently that is fused by a 30a and a 40a fuses. Those were blown. Put new fuses in and changed the power source for the compressors to the battery terminal. Problem solved! Well one problem. Sent from my Find7 using Tapatalk
  3. Drove down to my buddy's place and the DIC gave me a service trailer brake system while in traffic. I wasn't towing anything... I'm starting to wonder if payments would be better than putting up with this damn shaking. Plus all the time and money spent chasing the solution. Sent from my Find7 using Tapatalk
  4. Yeah the old one lasted in high heat, these should too. I wouldn't be surprised if it gets above 120 in that box and that's w/o the pumps running. Sent from my Find7 using Tapatalk
  5. My only concern is heat, but then the Omega setup that was in there lasted 9 years and that pump was only rated at 25%. These new ones are 100%, but only at 73 degrees or something like that. Like I said my buddy is OCD when it comes to electrical stuff like this. Wire loom, zip ties, relays, grounding blocks, shrink tubing, soldering wires together before putting them into the crimp connection or terminals. If I remember I'll take some pictures of the relays he setup for all the extra lights we put on and the wiring for the horn setup. The only thing I need to do is eventually figure out what I want to do with the filters, right now they're just sitting on top of the tarp I keep in the toolbox. Only the horns are exposed to the elements right behind and under the rear passenger.
  6. Yeah mine is a bit more compact. I also don't have a cover on my bed so even though it won't hurt the system I like having it inside the toolbox. I bought the compressors with an 8 gallon tank but that would have taken up way too much space in the toolbox and I didn't like the mounting options under the truck. Sent from my Find7 using Tapatalk
  7. Thursday had the 6 tires put on. Arrived at dealer ten minutes before they opened at 0730, I left at almost 1300. Truck sat finished for over 45 minutes that I noticed because no one knew wth was going on. The guy who has been taking care of me in that department for probably a decade + was fired on Wednesday. They got it figured out finally and I went to lunch with the parts guy. Sat/Sun/Mon continued and finally finished install of new air system in the truck. Buddy wants to do everything a specific way, and being an electrician by trade, it also has to be electrically perfect. So it takes 3-5x longer, but at least I know my truck isn't going to catch fire while I'm driving down the road. Pressure switch is 110-145 psi so those dual compressors probably take less than 2 minutes to fill that 4 gallon tank up. Haven't found enough open road or empty space to see how long I can blast the horns until the tank runs out. If it runs out, the compressors might be enough to keep air in the tank even under use, time will tell. Also put the newer bigger 2 rear cab/body mounts in. Monday night I vacuumed out the metal bits and shavings from all the drilling we did in the tool box. Vacuumed out underneath the tool box since that hasn't been cleaned properly in quite some time. All the pistol/rifle brass and the wheel weights kept clogging up my small shop vac. The yard waste debris didn't help any either. Found a 25' air hose that was already set up and tossed that in the tool box since I have an air source now with the new tank. I think that tool box has to be at least 15 years old, holding up real well. Also put 22 gallons in on the way home from work. Sometime this week I need to call a local drive line shop and see when I can get my truck to them to see if they can figure out this what's causing this shake. The new tires helped significantly but now I'm back to where I started. If it doesn't get any worse I think it will be tolerable enough to take my trip to VA for turkey week.
  8. Monday My buddy and I pulled the air tank and compressor from my truck. Along with the many many feet of wiring that went with it. Looks a little less like a rats nest under the hood and now I don't have 15+ foot power wires with connections holding them together. For some reason instead of using the proper wire length the installer decided to just make his own lengths. A couple points along the way the insulation was almost worn through. I'll give that guy points for using a ton of zip-ties to secure the wiring, his zip-tie cut off methods are lethal though lol. Spent a couple hours looking for connections to put in the 8 bungs the new tank has, not surprisingly at all my buddy had the one we couldn't find for the pressure switch. Ran new wires from the batteries back to the tool box where the new system is going to be, made it all nice and neat with zip-ties and wire loom. I'll be going back probably this weekend to get the dual compressors installed, all depends on if my buddy welds his convoluted mounts together for the two compressors or not. He wants to make it easy to service if need be, that just means more work on install. Tuesday The road force results I mentioned the other day were just the rear 4 tires, so out of 4 rear tires I had 3 that were out of spec/bad. Dealership suggested I call Michelin because their customer service is fairly good and it's better to start the process with them and then go from there. Called and they gave me some shops in the area to go to so I went to Tire Kingdom, the one closest to me and the one I've been to before. Well they don't have a road force balancing machine and tell me there's only one in the district. I called that store up told them I needed to make an appointment for a warranty check on my tires and I most likely need to have the tires road forced. Told them 3 out of my 4 rear tires were bad but Michelin wanted them checked out. The guy on the phone said sure when do you want to come so I told him ASAP. Proceeds to tell me noon tomorrow or 1 tomorrow, hold on we had something open up at 3 today (yesterday). Make the appointment for that, go in and whoever was there said it's normally at least 30 minutes a tire, I said that's fine. Except it wasn't their tech guy who does the road force leaves at 330 and on top of that they don't have a lift or room to fit a dually. So I wanted to know why the heck did they make an appointment for a vehicle they can't service on a day where even if they did the tech didn't have time to do it. Oh and if I had accepted the noon or 1pm appointment for the next day that wouldn't have worked because the tech doesn't even work Wednesdays. Got back on the phone with Michelin told them there are not a lot of shops that have road force balance machines AND the facilities to accommodate fatty and if I could just go through the dealer. So back to the dealer where I scheduled to come in this morning to test the front 2 tires. Wednesday Front 2 tires are fine and Michelin is going to prorate 45% on the 3 bad tires. So if everything works out tomorrow I'll have 6 new tires 3 of which will be partially paid for by Michelin. I'll have one of the 3 good tires put on as a spare since my OEM spare is starting to crack and I'll keep the other 2 good tires and try to sell them or see if anyone I know needs some used tires with 38k on them. Hopefully I can stack promotions and save some money as well. If I buy the tires out right I'll get cash back from my credit card and Michelin will send me a check for their share. There's also a $70 rebate when you buy 4 Michelin tires. Looks like the dealer has some lifetime rotation and balancing deal as well as $100 off if spending over $500. If I can get all those to play nicely then I'll save a decent amount. Tires should be going on tomorrow sometime. Dealer hasn't done a warranty replacement before but was very helpful and willing to try and make it work. So far seems like we're good to go. The fact that they try is the reason why I keep going back, no one's perfect but at least when people try to fix their mess ups it makes it 5% better? lol TLDR: Old air compressor/tank removed and new wires ran as well as new 4 gallon tank installed. People suck and I'm tired of driving all over the place with a horribly shaking truck to find out that fatty can't be serviced at their facilities. Dealer ordered tires and printed out rebates forms, new tires should be going on tomorrow. Side note these are the reasons why I keep trying to convince my friend not to get an F350/ or any dually when he gets around to getting rid of his F150. He'll never tow high heavy enough and the hassle isn't worth it living in non "truck country" where only random shops have the lifts and space to work on a dually. I guess he'll be somewhat better having a lot of tractor trailer shops near him, but he'll undoubtedly pay even more to use those shops.
  9. Went to check on my truck and put the sun shade up and it was ready. Apparently I have 3 bad tires, why the heck it took this long to figure out I'll never know. 4 different shops and having them balanced 6+ times. The dealership was supposed to road force balance them a couple times before. Now I get to see how complicated Michelin's warranty process is. The tires were put on 3/31/16 and only have about 38k on them. I've been having shaking problems for over 20k miles and well over a year. If they had figured this out sooner the tires might have been replaced at no cost to me. I guess after I figure out the warranty process I'll need to decide if I want to go back to stock size of 225/75/R17 and save $200+ or stick with 245/70/R17. Anyone know how to read this road force balancing thing? I only count 5 tires listed with one scratched out and no way to tell if the outside or inside rears are the bad ones. Might have to go back to the dealer Monday to find out which ones are bad if I can't find markings on the tires tomorrow. I wonder if the tires being "bad" all this time contributed to my wheel bearings needing replacement. *edit* Also anyone know where I can find the inflation tables for Michelin Defender tires? I've found some of Michelin's inflation tables, but not for the Defenders, and emailing them resulted in no response.
  10. I guess down here we don't go through brakes. 90k factory brakes on my 01 2500HD and 112k on the 06 2500HD when I sold them. If the dang dealership had listened and written down when I said multiple times do not drive my truck because the hub isn't on properly, I'd still have the factory brakes at 82k on my dually. Instead I now have a new RR rotor and 4 new pads in the rear. That was a fun exercise in restraint when I saw what the service guy wrote down for the techs, nothing close to what I said. Then there was the bill... Sent from my Find7 using Tapatalk
  11. Yeah it's a dually. I tried beads, they didn't solve my problem, had them removed and went back to wheel weights. Doesn't matter who balances my tires, I've had 4 different shops try, truck still shakes. I still think it has something to do with the bearings. I can't tell what you've done from the pics. 12. Took my truck in yesterday yet again to see if they can figure out this shake issue. If the dealer fails yet again then it's going to a drive line shop and if they say everything checks out I'm just going to put a whole new rear end under the darn thing. Tired of the truck shaking and being in and out of the shop. No way my cousin is going to be able to sit in the passenger seat with the truck shaking that bad for our trip to VA next month. Dealer won't even put the sunshade up for me either so my dash better not crack. I've been going there the next day or two after dropping it off and putting it up myself. Really sucks because the staff is great, just frustrating when they don't write what I say down so it never makes it back to the techs. Which leads to screw ups, which are never in my favor. The loaner they gave me has fully automatic headlights. Turns the brights on and off, pretty interesting, and surprisingly works. I think this thing has the 9 spd in it too, at least I see L9 when I go manual. Took me a while to figure out why the car shook or felt like it was surging at traffic lights, it has start/stop thing.
  13. Trimmed my trees and cut a couple down. Filled my bed up and still have another 3 or 4 loads worth. Looks like I'll be making some trips to the dump tomorrow since I incorrectly thought it was closed today. I could have done at least 2 trips today.
  14. Yeah I just feel bad about having to rely so much on my neighbor's vast knowledge of things. Having a 60 or 70 something guy walking back and forth across the street multiple times and then banging away on the truck makes me feel like an ass. Buddy found another "fix" that might smooth out the ride a little as well. Ordered new rear cab mounts using information from one of the duramax forums. The dang thread is 81 pages long lol. Today if I get off my butt I'll swing by wally world and pick up another jug of diff fluid, didn't have quite enough to fill the diff back up. Maybe I was a little low to begin with or more came out when we did the RR than we thought.
  15. Spent a bunch of time with my buddy and neighbor replacing the inner and outer bearings, axle seal, and axle gasket on the right rear. Tons and tons of fun...Truck rides considerably smoother so we didn't do all that work for nothing. One of the bearings and race were somewhat scoured so there was definitely something going on back there. Only thing I can find in the log book as to why the axle hub nut might be loose is way back at 19,918 miles when the rear axle carrier and bearings were replaced for some reason (log doesn't say why). Truck is at 82k now but shake started being noticeable about 20k miles ago. Hopefully it stays smooth riding for my upcoming 1,200 mile road trip.
  16. Buddy came over to help me finally figure out wtf is wrong with my truck. I think I finally know what's wrong with it, rear hub needs to be rebuilt, maybe after that my truck will stop trying to shake me to death. Surprisingly Amazon was about $25 cheaper than rockauto. Also figured out that my other buddy and I are dummies and didn't tighten the front shocks down properly. Still have a noise coming from the front end though. Found where my rattle noise is coming from too. One of the metal lines that are coming out of the exhaust broke, no clue what that is, some sensor maybe? Hopefully there's enough pipe left to flair the end and put it back in w/o having to replace the whole line.
  17. Changed my oil and fuel filter. I was going to change the transmission filter but I ran out of energy so I went and had it balanced. Loaded a probably 100-200+ lbs of wheel weights into the bed while it was getting balanced. Again too tired and it's too hot to remove the buckets of weights and dump them out so I've got some traction control until I dump those out. Maybe next weekend I'll rotate the tires and wash it.
  18. Went and jumped my buddy's patrol car. So that's 2 jumps and a tire change in 3 years for him lol
  19. Yesterday I put another passenger headlight assembly on my truck. Got lucky found one on ebay a guy had removed from another truck, in pretty darn good shape for only $60.50 with shipping. Prices were cheap enough I almost considered buying both assemblies. I think he was selling the rear tail lights as well. Now I have to go back and sand down my driver's side assembly again so it matches the passenger. Maybe sometime in the next week or so I'll give the truck a bath.
  20. Driving home from breakfast after work this morning and a bird decided to fly into my truck. Now I need a new headlight assembly. Are non GM ones any good, thinking I'll just fork out double and get OEM. I'm surprised the fender isn't dented. Sent from my Find7 using Tapatalk
  21. Traction control and smoother ride. Also a reminder on how weak I am. I have a couple friends that think they will be good for exercise so I picked them up a tire each. Sent from my Find7 using Tapatalk
  22. A lot of times I can't see car roofs either, truck's butt is high up plus the tool box I have in the bed. My favorite is when I come out and the car behind me has hit me. Especially the newer cars with plastic bumpers, when I pull out I hear those bumpers POP back out haha. I believe having a rear view camera has made me worse at parking. Seems like I pay less attention and rarely get backed in in 1 try anymore. Then again with the dually I have to be a bit more precise than I did with my 2500s.
  23. Wait you're implying that hitting things while backing isn't normal? How do y'all know when to stop? I keep going until my hitch hits the concrete wall, pole, tree, or hill behind me. I've bent a few fences that way at work, they should just have more fence poles so I hit those instead of in between them where I bend the fence back.
  24. My 01 2500HD had 90k or there about when I sold it, all original brakes. 2006 2500HD had 112k also original brakes. Current 2009 3500HD is 77k and all original as well. Hooray for less traffic compared to up north I guess. Funny that family up north comes down and b****es about the traffic here when I think it's worse up there. Some of y'all go through brakes fast lol
  25. My grandfather and dad taught me some things when they were alive. Sadly I've most likely forgotten most of what my grandfather taught me and he probably forgot more than my dad ever knew. Even my grandmother was pretty mechanically inclined. I guess when you race Maseratis, Ducatis, and own a mechanics shop you can't help but know some stuff. Plus apparently way back then in Italy she had to disassemble an engine and put it back together as part of her drivers license test. Dad helped that neighbor out all the time on his Willy's build, didn't get to see this iteration completed though.
