  1. Hi everyone, first time posting, but long time reader. I usually try to avoid posting when I can, and just browse the threads and read about related problems and figure it out from there. Even though I've found many threads that are similar to the problem Im having, I still can't narrow it down to my next step. so if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. Ok so, BAD oil leak problem with my friends 2005 GMC Sierra 1500. It's had this leak for a while, but it's gotten to the point now where it's starting to leave puddles. I power washed the entire area, and I actually got it pretty clean. Today when I looked again to see if I could trace the source, I had a much clearer picture of where the leaks are actually coming from. From what I've read it seems as though it could be the valve cover gasket, the crankshaft sensor, the rear main seal, or even the oil pan gasket. My problem is that to me, it looks like it's coming from almost all these places. I looked inside the bell housing and I don't see it looking completely soaked in oil. It does however, look like the leak is mainly coming from in front of the bell housing behind the engine, in between the two. I'll attach some pictures. These would be from overnight after I power washed it, so the oil hasn't blown anywhere from being driven or anything. Thanks so much to anyone who's got any ideas!
  2. Hi, I have an oil leak coming from somewhere near the front of the engine on my 2006 Chevy Silverado 1500. I noticed it was making a puddle towards the front of the truck. Anything tips is helpful!!
  3. My 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 (4.8L V-8) has developed an oil leak somewhere above the oil filter (not the filter itself). I cannot see any leak around the valve cover (both gaskets were replaced recently) nor around the head gasket. I have not been able to examine it from below very well yet but I'm wondering if the filter housing is a separate part attached to the block and uses a gasket rather than being machined into the block itself. If not a separate part where the gasket can fail I have no clue where the leak could be coming from. Can someone confirm my theory or suggest where in that area a leak might originate? TIA.
  4. Good morning All! Looking for some help for my son's 2012 Silverado, 4WD, 5.3L. I have attached a video of a pretty bad oil leak my son has on hi truck. Video is BEFORE any repairs were attempted. 1. Son thought it was the oil pan gasket, so he went through the process of removing front differential, and other parts to perform repair. Halfway through disassembly he realized it was NOT the oil pan. 2. He then thought it was the rear main oil seal, so he put truck back together, and had it towed to my house. I spent the last 3 weekends figuring out howto, and then replacing the rear main cover/seal. 3. Started truck and still $%%& leaking! Son shared this video with me, and I viewed it several times now, and based on what I saw under the truck and the video, this looks like the oil pressure sender, or something up higher. It is clear to me now that we worked on the wrong thing! I am about ready to pull all the remaining hair out my head on this, and was hoping someone could view the video and give their thoughts? Is it the pressure sending unit, or possibly a valve cover (I doubt this, but possible), or intake gasket? It is now below freezing in Michigan, and I do not have this truck in the garage (I WAS in the middle of my rebuild on my 1985 Camaro, so I have no room, and need to get this truck fixed, or towed to a shop if it out of my abilities). 5. I have a 2011 Silverado 4.3L. Im slowly leaking oil, appears to be near the timing chain cover. When I noticed it I was below the low line on the dipstick. Have not seen any oil drips on my driveway but if you look around the timing chain cover and oil pan there is always a thin layer of oil. Ive had to add a quart of oil two weeks after topping it off. But there has been zero drips?!?! Can't figure out where it's going... Has anyone else had this issue? (Parked in the same spot on a clean driveway when parking and checking the oil level)
  6. Hello Gang, This could be the start of a long story. It is a work in progress. Let's start at the beginning. Drove from Illinois to Arkansas to buy a 2019 GMC Sierra Denali HD Dually in Red. Before even leaving the dealership they had to replace one of the drivers seat vibration sensors due to a dash warning light that came on after the test drive but before we were able to drive it off the lot so it happened in the service bay getting washed. NOT happy delayed our return visit by 45 minutes. Drove home just over 700 miles no issues at all just awesome ride all the way home. A few weeks after we got her home wife notices some spots on the driveway under her new truck. So being the nice guy that I am I have my ASE Master Tech son crawl underneath to inspect it. He says it's got multiple oil leaks, front of engine, rear of engine, and the rear cluster light under the tailgate is full of moisture. Scheduled an appointment and away we go. Got to the dealer and they had to order the rear cluster light no big deal. On with the oil leaks. The dealer claimed that the front seal was bad and needed to be replaced. they replaced the front seal got the truck back looked underneath and found the same oil leaks! Not only did I still have oil leaks but it was missing a bolt from the skid plate. Back to the dealer again. This time around they found the rear seal was bad. So GM told them to replace the oil pan. Great got the truck back and the next day had a low coolant light on. Back to the dealer again Filled up the overflow tank and away we went. Next day low coolant light back on so back to the dealer again. Refilled the overflow tank and we go home again. Took the truck camping for one week come back home crawl underneath to inspect it and start counting the oil leaks again. So let's go back to the dealer yet again. This time around they tell me the timing chain cover is leaking so they replaced it only too 10 days. Oh yeah they stripped out the bolt on the skid plate last time around. Picked the truck up the next day low coolant light on. Back to the dealer who swears that the mechanic filled it 3 times and it's full. So they fill it again and we go home next day the low coolant light is on again so back we go. No visible leaks and no odor whatsoever of coolant. So they fill it up again. Oh forgot to mention this time they cracked the gravel shield underneath so waiting on GM strike to be over to get that replaced. In the meantime the rear cluster light is full of moisture again and the dealer replaced it. We love this truck but these oil leaks and low coolant lights are driving my wife crazy. She doesn't want to drive a loaner car she wants her truck. We checked the oil and it's fine no coolant that we can see. In the means time I'm waiting about a week before I crawl underneath and take more pictures of th4e oil leaks that they can't seem to find let alone fix. They have fixed some of the leaks so I guess that's progress. Sure hope this isn't indicative of future problems. I will post a follow up if and when the dealer can or can't fix the leaks.I will post some pictures when I get some time if I haven't already delted them from my phone.
  7. Have a leak from the back of the motor that is getting worse. I collected some of it today and it's anti-freeze. I was thinking it was from near the front of the engine but parked it in the driveway and the puddle is near the back. I do have to add coolant; maybe went through a gallon over the last 12/18 months. It also does use oil, maybe a quart over 3000 miles. I thought it was also leaking oil but this coolant did not appear to have any oil with it. It's an 02 with 240K on it and I've had it for about 4 years. I've never really worked on an LS motor so advice would be great.
