I recently bought a (Gen 3) LQ4. I'm trying to swap this into an (Gen 4) 07' Silverado which uses 58x Reluctor, 4x Cam Gear, Front Timing Cover/Crank Sensor, and 2 Knock Sensors located in the sides of the block. I have a (Gen 4) Truck, So the timing cover/ crank sensor/ knock sensors can be used. I also have a (Gen 4) ECM/Harness. I know I need to get 58x Reluctor Gear put on & get a 4x cam gear already My questions are as follows: 1. Can I put a 4x Cam Gear on a (Gen 3 Cam) ? or do I need to get a (Gen 4 Cam) for the (Gen 4 Cam Gear) to work ? 2. Can I use the (Gen 4 Knock sensors) on the side of the (Gen 3 LQ4) ? Just drill/tap & mount them ? 3. If I keep the (Gen 4 Fuel Setup) could I just install that on the (Gen 3 LQ4) ? Any help or advice will be appreciated. I'll be documenting everything so others will have better knowledge when putting a Gen 3 Block into a Gen 4 Vehicle. Thanks guys !
06' LQ4 Swapping 07' 4.8 Vortec
Dillion Padgett posted a topic in 1999-2013 Silverado & Sierra 1500Hey guys, I just bought an LQ4/6.0 out of a 2006 Denali XL Complete Long Block Engine Harness /w ECU Accessories The swap will be going into a 2007 Reg Cab Silverado. Truck came factory with the 4.8L Vortec. My questions go as follows. 1. Would the swap work easier since I have the ECU/ECM that came with it ? 2. 06' Below uses 24x Crank Sens... 07+ 58x Crank Sens... Could it work since i have the ECU/Harness ? 3. Would the truck still start up/drive without unlocking the ECU ? 4. What other things should i be worried about ? 5. What things should I get for the swap if needed ? I will be using a JEGS adapter/4.8 Flexplate to mount the 4l60e to it "4l80 will be put in later"
Lq4 turbo questions
Vance826 posted a topic in 1999-2013 Silverado & Sierra 1500I have a 07 (Classic) 2500hd lq4 and I have been looking at some turbo set ups and kits for a while now. I have some questions though. I like this kit alot https://www.speed-engineering.com/ls-turbo-parts/twin-turbo-kits/silverado-sierra/silverado-sierra-twin-turbo-kit-1999-06-4-8l-5-3l-6-0l.html - They stated a 224 cam gave them 495rwhp. Can I throw in a ls3, ls6, or ls9 cam in to expect similar gains or would it be major loss? - After cam where are we with fuel? What kind of fuel rails should I run and from where? - I understand the truck intake is good, but what is a better option? -What heads should I run? I keep seeing 243 heads are a good idea considering my dished pistons. - I know a torque converter will meed to come in at some point. What do yall suggest? - Anything else I should buy or pay attention to? My truck is my DD and I can run e85 when the time comes. I am looking for some low end torque rather than hp. Thanks
Reduced engine power help
Blue6.0HD posted a topic in Gen III and IV Small Block & DrivetrainOkay so i have an 04 2500HD with the lq4. ive replaced the TPS, the pedal sensor, and even the knock sensors. while i had the motor apart or while reassembly somethimg mustve gone wrong because after reduced engine power i have a very rough idle almost like it jumped time. however after you cycle the key and get it started again it runs fine. but often with little to no power. i have somewhere around 457k miles on the motor and it hasnt done this before. i know my fuel pressure regulator is bad and i have one ordered and on its way for me to fix which i believe solves my power issue, but not the reduced engine power problem. ive read that cleaning the grounds is an option and something about intake gasket failure could be a culprit for both. im going to clean the grounds and change the fuel pump assembly and see where im at but if that fails what should i look into? any info is appreciated thanks
FS: 2001 Silverado w/6.0 Swap and Built Trans
oldscsc posted a topic in For Sale/WantedEvening folks, The time has come to look into selling my pickup. I have copied the text from my Craigslist ad below, but some quick details are as follows: --2001 Silverado 1500 RCLB --LQ4 6.0 swap. Tuned by Justin at Blackbear. Truck originally had a 4.8; the 6.0 donor vehicle was a 2002 1500HD. --Built 4L60E (5 pinion plantearies, high energy clutches and band, TransGo 1800 converter, modified valve body, etc.). The trans shifts well and can take the 6.0 power with ease. --Tasteful upgrades to the interior, exterior, and audio areas of the pickup. Feel free to ask any questions you may have, as I'd be happy to answer them and/or provide additional pics! I can meet anywhere in the LA area. Asking $3900 OBO. Thanks, --Scott http://losangeles.craigslist.org/wst/cto/5387577421.html 2001 Chevy Silverado for sale. I have owned this pickup for over 5 years, but recently bought a new vehicle and can't justify keeping this one. Pickup runs excellent and has no mechanical problems. It's ready for whatever you can throw at it! Clean Kansas title in hand. Pickup has never been titled outside of Kansas and Oklahoma. Smog at buyer's responsibility. Engine is not modified and catalysts function as designed, so smog shouldn't be a problem. Details are as follows: Engine -- 2002 LQ4 6.0 with approximately 135k miles. Runs great with no check engine light. Tuned by Justin of Blackbear Performance. Recent complete reseal, water pump, and knock sensors (all preventative maintenance). Trans -- Built 4L60E with approximately 25k miles. Auxiliary trans cooler. Shifts positively and has no problem handling the 6.0. Build details available upon request. Exterior -- 18" Z71 wheels from 2013 Silverado. Professionally tinted tail lights. Chrome grille and bumpers. OEM receiver hitch with 7 pin trailer wiring. Interior -- 10 way power, leather buckets and center console from Avalanche LT. Instrument cluster with trans temp gauge from Cadillac Escalade. Manual windows, locks, and mirrors. Tilt wheel, cruise control, and excellent A/C. Audio -- Pioneer head unit with Bluetooth hands free calling, Bluetooth music streaming, Aux input, USB input, MP3 CD, etc. Alpine Type S speakers throughout.
LQ4 tranny compatibility . . . Newbie from Texas
Filbert Sam posted a question in Ask the GM TechnicianI just purchased a 1999 6.0 Litre LQ4 motor with harness and computer, plus an extra set of aluminum heads. I thought it was a really good deal. Trumping a likely response, I'll just say it first. "You can always tell a Texan. You just can't tell him much". The donor vehicle was a 1999 Silverado 2500 4x4. Since it was a 4x4, it most likely had a 4L80E tranny, but I'm not certain about that. My intent was to do a "LS swap" for my 57 Bel Air. I'm NOT building a 400HP+ muscle car; strickly a street driver. My hope was to build a reliable and efficient driver, no DC generators with leaky PS pumps, 15 MPH, slack steering, etc.). However, I just learned that the crankshaft for the 1999 & 2000 LQ4s are a little bit longer than the standard LS or LQ cranks for later years (don't know about years prior to 1999). The fix as I can best understand it is some sort of spacer, or a new concaved flex plate, or a new custom made torque converter, or some combination of all of these. I'd like to go with the 4L60E if possible (size, weight, cost, etc.). If necessary, I can go with a 4L80E if that's my only option. Q1) Is there a 4160E that will mate up with the LQ4 without the necessity of some exotic solution? Q2) Is my only option to find a 99 or 00 4L80E? Thanks in advance Filbert Sam
1999 Lq4 Motor swap
jtangjerd posted a topic in 1999-2013 Silverado & Sierra 1500I got a 1999 Chev 2500 with the 6.0 lQ4 with iron heads, i want to direct plug and play with a new motor, do i need an iron head lq4 or can i use a newer aluminum head lq4 for my swap. Im mostly concerned at how the flexplate will bolt up. Since the new motor will already be out and the truck has a lift and 35s would it be a good idea to put a cam in or anything else before i put it in. I can also get a 250xxxkm 6.0 from salvage for about $600 anything to worry about at that milage?
I need some help with a decent tune that will give me some more power but not jack with my fuel mileage to bad or even a tune to help get more mpg!
