OK, I have done a lot in the last few years. The 1990 Silverado has been my daily driver for the last 5 years with out a problem. but I thought about it quite a bit and I looked at 1954 to 1995 Chevrolets & GMC. But I was extremely lucky when I responded to a listing on Ebay for a 1990 Silverado about a hundred and thirty miles from my home. One might be afraid, but the emails from the owners son in law were so consistent and honest, I said to hell with it and I bought it sight unseen. My 1990 Silverado has a stable mate, I found a 1988 K5 Blazer from West Texas and I couldn't pass up. That was in late 2015. Since then we restored the Blazer to ORIGINAL as it rolled off the line in Flint assembly line. It had the Silverado option, and I got a copy of the build sheet and after a body off restoration I reinstalled all of the item not on the truck and I had a killer sound system installed. and the truck was Beige and Gold, and we repainted it as the one on the sales brochure was colored Beige and tangent #72 Red. Looks Fantastic. I have not stopped for gas that someone hasn't came over and complemented me on it.
Nothing was over looked. We took the body an bed up and off, checked for any hidden rust, but as it turned out, only one corner of the cab on the passengers side needed to be replaced and the chassis was solid as a rock, which also surprised me as Pennsylvania salt the roads like flypaper. At any rate, nothing was over looked, we even install new cab mounts, and it was built in 1990 and had the two-tone paint and I wanted to save that, so we did every inch of the can and bed, two guys on each, and it took close to a week and then, since this truck is a daily driver, after sanding and blocking, it was loaded on a flat bed two truck and sent to a really good Maaco and they painted only the black, and we had masked off all the gold, turned out pretty nice. folks always ask is it's original, I can thankfully say yes, but the black and gold is brand new. I wish I could show to you all. it was a heavily options truck So I went through every system and rebuilt every inched of it, t I rebuilt the entire suspension from the front bumper to the class 2 trailer hitch, New springs and the only parts I saved were the rear axle and the front steering box and the links and the idler arm. Beyond that it is all brand new.
All told, took 2.5 years but I can now say it's finished. I wish I could give you all a ride in it, it's so solid and rattle free, which ain't bad for a 23 year old truck. Thank you for reading my episode of restoration of my pickup, trucks.
