  1. Actually it looks like I can, they added Mexico to the preapproved list in 2020! Only thing would be checking that the DRLs and electronic immobilizer meet Canadian spec.
  2. That's the infuriating part, they're already building them. They don't need to add anything to the production setup. They only need to sell them to us, and they won't.
  3. Arrival Blue is fantastic! Would love to see it side-by-side with Blue Topaz, they look pretty similar with Arrival being lighter. I'll be painting my 1993 RCSB one of those shades, or the standard Indigo Blue, eventually.
  4. GM claims low sales, and while that's true, there are reasons for that beyond what the market demands. CAFE - part of the calculations are based on vehicle footprint. The same 5.3L engine is a way worse "hit" in a small RCSB than a larger CCSB. That give GM corporate incentive to sell fewer of them. Markups - I bet it's $1-2000 difference in their cost to build them with the extra doors and seats. But they can sell them for a much higher premium than that. So dealerships are incentivized to sell more of those than the smaller trucks. Rebates - When I bought by RCSB, they barely budged off the price. I paid $42k (Canadian). I tried and tried, and all they kept doing was offering me a similarly equipped double cab for less money. How does that make sense? From a purely financial perspective I was stupid not to take one of those other offers. However I don't want a big truck. Trims - if you want the higher trims or nicer options, they force you into a 4-door model. When I bought in 2014, LT Z71 was the highest model you could get. No leather, no touch screen (I think that changed later on), etc. The majority of the two-door trucks of either box length they made were optioned to be cheap work trucks. The 6.2 was unavailable in a regular cab at all. If GM offered regular cabs at proportional prices to the bigger trucks, with all options available, and similar rebates, they would sell WAY more than the pitiful numbers they point to as justification. As it stands, THEY STILL BUILD THEM. They are not saving money at all since they still make them for Mexico and the middle east. So the "it costs too much to make small production numbers" is bogus. Anyway, I own my 2014 RCSB, and I guess that will be it for me buying new GM trucks. I'll just have to keep mine on the road as long as possible. That was kind of the plan already, but I did plan on buying a new one eventually.
  5. Edit: soory, "make" not "take. Lol yes. I've gone through the same thoughts, after a rugby practice I don't really want to climb in all soaked onto my cloth seats. We just use the high school field with no building access, so no shower possible. Most of the time I get by with taking my shirt off as soon as we're done, and delay putting on a fresh shirt until right before I hop in to try to let the sweat air dry. Doesn't work the best in the humid summers but better than full sweat. I've tried doing towels etc but yeah they fall down right quick.
  6. Had to replace mine for the first time this fall, my truck was built in Oct 2013 so ~7years. I got whatever they carried at PartsSource, I think it was ~$230 if I remember correctly. First battery I've had to change so I don't how it compare to others in terms of ease but didn't think it was that bad. Took off the diagonal brace and the bar that goes down from it. I didn't touch the reservoir, I think I did need to roll the battery at some point.
  7. I'll second that the LTX M/S2 (whatever the current iteration is named) are excellent for the winters we have in Southern Ontario, which is essentially everything. Fresh snow/packed snow/slush/ice, they handle all of them very well.
  8. Just a wash and wax today, a couple weeks ago I got a Gator roll up tonneau. It's okay, it was the cheapest one I could find so not gonna complain much lol. Replaced the battery last week. Expensive! But I suppose I got 6 years out of it so not bad. In the sometime near future I need to do rear breaks, and front ball joints and maybe bearings... And then maybe I can move onto figuring out what the engine noise I'm hearing is. Oil change mechanic thinks it's a piston noise ? All of that is taking money away from what I REALLY want to be modding, which is my recently purchased '93 Sierra.
  9. I've actually scraped before in a stock truck, so be careful. (don't worry, no Chevy was harmed. Boss's F150 on a work trip!)
  10. So I voted on the poll before I read the post.... Looks, naked is best. But, I like the step for getting in, and don't think it necessarily looks bad either.
  11. D'oh! I'm so miffed about them discontinuing the RCSB that I forgot the RCLB was still an option. I was just trying to think of a "recent event" that would cause that beauty to get "demoted".
  12. Yeah everyone else in here is wasting their time arguing which 4-door version is best. RCSB all day! If i need to go anywhere with more than my wife, someone else can drive!
  13. Lo Looks badass man! Got any more pics?
  14. Looks awesome! Blacked out is probably my favourite look of the 16-19s. I didn't even know factory leather was an option with the 2 doors.
  15. So I just had the software update done for this on Wednesday. They never mentioned anything about a pump. Does this mean my truck will show up as having had it done and I'm SOL if this issue crops up? (never experienced that hard braking)
  16. When I bought mine in 2014 they were still around, common but not plentiful. Most dealerships had maybe 3-5 out of 50-70 trucks. Finding specific colour/option configurations was tricky.
  17. Southern Ontario is garbage. Constant freeze thaw, rain/slush/snow/melt repeat. Pour on the salt, pour on the brine. We had a salt shortage last winter. My diploma was in construction technology and we learned it's one of the hardest environments to design buildings for.
  18. I'll do what I can! When I switch wheels in the spring I'll spend some time underneath touching up anything I can get to.
  19. I've actually seen pictures of people with 14+ seats in a '88-'98, not sure about '99. Maybe "performance parts" isn't the best way to say what I was thinking. I guess I just mean "better than stock" when such options are available.
  20. Electronics did cross my mind as another issue. I do drive a LOT less that I did previously, I finally managed to live, work, and date all in the same city. But winter is unavoidable. I get it sprayed every fall but there is rust down there. I guess the best I can do is keep it going as long as is reasonable, and then get a new one and see about a full frame-up restoration.
  21. Hey all, This thread is born out of me looking for advice, but I thought I would throw open the discussion as to how YOU would build, and look after, a truck if you were to keep it "forever". I have a 2014, RCSB, Silverado that I bought brand new at age 21, as soon as I could while still finishing off paying off my student loans before interest. In August I passed my 5 year warranty and have been thinking about how I can best make this truck last "forever". I've never had a desire for another vehicle, am totally happy with what this truck gives me, and have always been a "Chevy truck guy". I've kept up with oil changes, done the "recommended" services at the dealership to the point where I've replaced the engine air filter and transmission fluid 3 times in 155k km (96,000 mi), just replaced the front brakes, rear brakes almost gone ( stock parts still), all that jazz. 5.3L V8, I think 3.08 gears, 6 speed, 4wd. Rotate between factory 17x8 rims w/ 265/70R17 Bridgestone Dueller ATs. and 8.5x18 wheels and 265x65R18 Michelin LTX M/S2 tires.Bedliner, and lowered the rear 2" with shackles. I'm starting to plan out what I will do once I stop paying for the truck next summer. Then I'll use the payment amounts to pay for upgrades, maintenance etc. It is my daily driver, but my aim is to make it into a "lean, mean, driving machine" by replacing parts with superior "performance parts" as the truck gets older. By spending a little bit more than basic repairs each time one comes up, eventually I should see performance and longevity improve each repair, rather than decline. My overall goal is to end up with a relatively classic, "sleeper" truck that looks mostly stock, but can surprise when let loose. I mostly drive in the city, and push it when I can, so dry and wet handling are my key concerns, along with longevity for economic reasons. At this point I'm considering intakes, header-back exhaust if there are benefits to that, nice tires, probably not lifting or lowering any more. Once these two sets of tires wear out I'm looking at summer street tires, and winter-focused AT tires or maybe straight winter tires. Would need to be convinced to do much more. As someone who isnt' THAT well educated when it comes to vehicles, what would YOU recommend, or do yourself to your truck, to achieve a long term, street performance/daily driver, outcome with one of these trucks? Any value-for-money things I'm not thinking of? anything you wouldn't do? What order would would you do certain mods in? I'm all ears, and still a year and a half away from anything, but open to all ideas and advice. Pics, cus:
  22. We finally had a warm day, so a full wash and wax. Had to get it done since I had a fender replaced recently after a minor crash and it had nothing on it. I also got a new wheel, so I cleaned off all dark grey plasti-dip that was on the rest of them. New grille as well, the old one I had dipped black but it was all peely so I'm glad it's looking nice again. It's basically back to stock now except the 2" rear drop and the front air dam. Probably stay that way until I finish paying for the thing lol.
  23. But not enough to extend that to regular cabs.... ?
  24. Sweet holy moses I dig your truck!!! I have a very similar one. The High Country grille looks fantastic! I wanted to do that for a long time on mine, it's still on the "maybe one day" list of mods.... I was also torn between lowering, and functionality as a truck. In the end I just went with a 2" rear shackle drop to take out some of the extreme rake. Any plans to paint the top bumper strip? Edit: More photos in this thread never hurts. Here's how it sits with the 2" rear drop. I've since removed the plastidip from the wheels, since I got a brand new one as part of an accident repair.
