  1. As a follow up, the ECM failed and needed to be replaced/programmed. I cut the lid off the original ECM and found that all three wiring harness plugs (J1, J2, and J3) were clearly burned where they are soldered onto the circuit board (FYI, I had to break the board in half to get it out of the housing so that's why the green part of the board is peeled...notice though, the darker green areas around the solder points. You can also smell that the smoke came out). There was also burning at the capacitor solder points and the voltage regulator. The dealer that did the programming for me said this is the 5th or 6th computer they've replaced at their shop in 2 years AND the dealer I bought the computer from had FIVE of them in stock...what's that tell you?
  2. Nope. I'm at 39k miles.
  3. For those interested, my ECM failed. Replaced it at the dealer today and had it reprogrammed. Back in business! Sounds like an expensive trip to the dealer for them to waste a bunch of time combing through module after module.

  5. Makes sense. If the cables/starter don't resolve it, that will be my next step at the dealer.
  6. I just ordered a new starter, positive battery cable, and negative battery cable. Amazon will have it to me by Wednesday. I'll throw it all on and see what happens. If still no start, I'll put it on my trailer and tow it to the dealer for a scan and see if they have an issue connecting to the ECM too. As of now, I'm leaning towards a failed ECM.
  7. Oh, sorry, those are definitely not factory lol. I actually removed them today.
  8. Proper scan? You mean like BCM and ECM scan? My ECM isn't doing much of anything because nothing can connect to it.
  9. No, factory gauges.
  10. ECU looks fine, smells fine.
  11. all grounds and 12v check out as expected. Maybe the ECU took a crap?
  12. Thanks for all the quick replies! I was just able to get my code reader to finally connect and pull codes. The only code is U0100 which is Lost Communication With ECM/PCM "A"
  13. Hey all. Hoping for some help! Started my truck this morning for the first time in about a week. When I pulled out of my driveway the DIC told me to service pretty much every system in the truck (trailer brakes...no trailer attached, Stabilitrak, power steering...drive with care, 4x4, etc) and the steering wheel became ridiculously heavy with speed and tach both at 0 while moving/running. I threw a brand new battery in it but still nothing. The video below is AFTER the new battery was installed. It's like the ECM isn't getting 12v or ground. The fuel gauge shows empty, which it's not, the trans isn't showing what gear it's in, and there's absolutely no cranking. All fuses are fine.
  14. the latest: "Well GM TAC (Technical Assistance Center) does know about the issue. The TAC advisor had the technician check several areas of the vehicle and we have found excessive voltage drop across the distributor center located near the battery and from the battery to the starter terminal. We have a new distribution center and positive battery cable set on order, expected 10/22-10/23 to arrive and install same day. They had a few cases where voltage drop was excessive across the negative cable, but not a very high number of them. Sure, someday it may become a recall but no action at this time. As I have more information available to me I will contact you with an update."
  15. UPDATE FOR MY TRUCK.... I called the dealer last night and left a message. They emailed back this AM and said: "We drove it multiple times, hot and cold, wet and dry. For a while we had no luck with getting it to duplicate until this morning. Manager got steering to lock up and stabilitrak message to display for a very brief moment like you had. technician is going to revisit the concern today since we cleared the codes (in the beginning). As soon as I find out more I will let you know. It’s been a busy morning I wanted to get back to you sooner but I didn’t want to wake you or anything. If you wanted to speak on the phone you can call me whenever. Hopefully this afternoon my technician will have a little bit more positive information since it acted up this morning." So good news here is that the manager had the same issues this AM that I brought it in for! I told the dealer I am done with the truck. Hi GM. I know you're reading this and following along! If I were you, I'd start taking some pretty serious action here. If I were in your shoes, there would be NO WAY I'd let a customer even sit in a truck that could lose steering at any moment, let alone drive one! Now you know I'm not making things up and the dealership's manager can back that up! Imagine what you'd have on your hands if steering is lost at 60 miles per hour with a full family inside. If I were GM, I'd be pretty nervous right now and I'd be scrambling to get in touch with my customer as quickly as possible to come up with a solution.....
  16. Happy to provide mine. I have a similar thread going here: http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/177978-steering-wheel-jammed-up-stabilitrak-errors/ I just had the dealer call me with all kinds of SCARY lost communication codes to pretty much every module (transmission, brakes, engine, and more). VIN on its way via PM.
  17. Hey guys, what's the latest with all your trucks? I just posted this AM with exactly the same issues.
  18. Oh and that's my '97 k1500 I traded in for my '14 Sierra 2 weeks ago. LOVE them all. We are a GM house. '12 2500, '77 Vette, '10 Camaro, and now ''14 Sierra. Before the Sierra an k1500 there was a '99 s10 Blazer and before that a 350k mile '94 Yukon. Can't get enough!
  19. Thanks. That '10 SS is right at 600RWHP with a Maggie blower. I was just loading it onto the trailer to head to the dyno for a tune after pullying down, bigger injectors, ZL1 fuel pump and super tensioner to hold the power.
  20. Usually an indicator of air in the system.
