Been reading this topic for a month now and decided I needed to contribute so I became a member and this is my second post
I know this topic was started in regards to a 2500HD but I am having the same issues as most of you with my 3500HD and here they are:
(11/2/2016) At 13850 miles I had 3-4 inches of play (left to right) so I took it in to the dealer where they performed the STEERING GEAR OVER CENTER ADJUSTMENT
(12/1/2016) At 14905 miles I had 3-4 inches of play (left to right) so I took it in again where they performed the same STEERING GEAR OVER CENTER ADJUSTMENT even though I told them I didn't think this fix would work and it didn't.
(12/2/2016) Picked the truck up from the dealer, drove about 5 miles and again had about 1-2 inches of play. I immediately took the truck back and said it wasn't fixed. So I took the mechanic for a drive to show him first hand. During the drive he told me the fix wasn't the STEERING GEAR OVER CENTER ADJUSTMENT and that the real fix was a new steering box. So I left the truck with them for about 4 days while I drove a rental car while they ordered and installed a new steering gear/box.
(12/26/2016) While driving back from Christmas Vacation I noticed that I have about 1-2 inches of play in the steering wheel again. I am taking the truck in today for its 15k mile service and during my 45 min drive to the dealer I will be focusing on the sloppy steering to I can schedule another mechanical service to "fix" this problem.
I know I left a lot of information out about the road surfaces, towing, etc. but I don't think environmental or truck use has any influence on this issue but I would be happy to answer any of your questions if you have any.
I am not happy about this what-so-ever but the service person I have been dealing with has been great to work with and in fact she is also having the same (maybe worse) issue with her 2016 Chevy 3500HD so she understands what I am going through.
I will be looking into how to file a BBB complaint because I am fairly certain GM does not know how to fix this problem.
Have a good day
