  1. Thanks Jim. There is literally no one around where I live that use the Michelin's, so I went with what I have been using. I will try some in the spring tho. I live in a remote rural location and sometimes the weather here gets terrible and the BFG KO2s haven't let me down so far. However they do not balance that great so that's life I guess. thank you for all of your input and responses
  2. Someone I was talking with brought up a very interesting issue. He asked if all of the vehicles having these issues came from the same manufacturing plant. So I mentioned that to some others and what has been an interesting find so far is that every vehicle VIN that starts with the number '3', was built in Mexico. have confirmed now that three of these vehicles VIN's start with the "3". So out of curiosity, and anyone willing to post, does your VIN start with a 3? Not going to make any difference but sure would be interesting , at least for me to see how many others do. I had to get winter tires and got some BFG KO 2's. They are a bit hard to balance so unfortunately i get some tire vibration now but when spring hits will try some of the Michelin's. The BFG's are the best I have found for where I live for the kind of snow and weather we get. Was concerned the Michelin would not be good as there is not anyone else around here that has them on anything.
  3. Does anyone know if a person can keep these 5.3's from going into v4 mode? I would like to just try it in v8 mode only to see if that does anything. cant find anything in the owners manual. and also looking thru the manual, I want to find the fuse or whatever for the power steering (found everything else) and be able to find and keep some extra fuse with me. Where I live can be down right dangerous or deadly during the winter and some of these damn long blizzards to be stuck along side the road just because of a bad fuse. Keeping up on the lessons learned many years ago and using a bit of common sense. These pickups have 3 fuse panels from what I have found so far, and at least u dont have to stand on your head to see them anymore!! LOL

  5. my vibrations are the worst at 65-75 and 75-75 being the worst. can feel some starting at the 25 mph but pretty mild. sometimes the steering wheel is very good for short periods of time. I dont know if these v8's go from 4 to 6 to 8 cyl, or just back and forth from 4 to 8 cyl. but never stays away for very long. looking at some new tires as i drove home the other day on these factory Goodyear eagle what evers, factory 4 ply highway tire, and they are horrible on snow. Little nervous cuz i need a 10 ply for where I live on this gravel road. I am afraid that is going to make the feeling worse, but have heard it has helped a few... I have been keeping very accurate records of the speeds, road surface types and conditions, etc to try to really figure out where things are the worst. And of course winter is such a great time to try and figure all of this stuff out when I dont have a place to do anything inside and all the road issues during winter.
  6. Mine has had the shake from the very beginning, 2018 year model i bought in December. In your theory how long would it take for this build up to occur? The frustrating part of it is it is never constant at any speed or manual selection of gears. Also if you are driving at various speeds and on roads that have hills where the trans is shifting up and down increasing and decreasing RPM's would that build up still occur?
  7. I wanted to pass along some incredible information I have found. If you go to you tube and enter "Weber State Auto Dept. you will find some GREAT videos by John Kelley. He is an instructor there. Enter the Chevy shake and you will see some videos and look for his blog about this. What he and some of his students found floored me. Even more things that I had not heard about. One of those being they tested the rear end by using a dial type torque wrench on the pinion nut and there was ZERO reading. It explains it well please look at it. I would love to meet that guy as he seems to be VERY thorough and methodical on how he does things. That is exactly what we need here. John and some other very smart guys have developed an app. Its on there also, is called the NHV App, for detecting vibrations etc. I also called the Performance Drive line company in Barstow, Ca that someone posted. Very knowledgeable, friendly and willing to explain things they found and how they build their products. Just wish I could remember the person that posted that info. Thank you to everyone posting their info, advice and help on here. Has helped me keep my sanity!! Last week I was fortunate enough to have a friend suggest another gm tech to help me. So much better when you can find someone who personally knows and suggests someone that is very thorough and takes pride in their work. Going to see them next week!! Also thank you to those of you who told me to make sure to keep things professional and courteous when dealing with the GM ppl. It is helping maintain a very personable level.
  8. Thank you for posting this information. I was not aware of such a department. I certainly hope i dont have to get to this point but super great info to have if it comes to that. LOL, love your quote, Super Shake edition!!! sad that we have to make light on such subjects, but some humor sure helps me anyway!! Thanks again!!! Hope it all comes thru for you very soon.
  9. In my research, have learned that the rear axles built by American Axle is a HUGE problem. Was told they also build the axles for the Dodges, not sure about the fords. If there is a way you can post that on these quotes you added it may be of help to those owners. A simple test I will be doing is pulling off the rear wheels/tires with the vehicle on jack stands and watch the axles as they turn. (with a dial indicator). Just so "I" know. Most of us love to tease each other on the brand we like best, but these issues are things that frustrate us all so bad and helping each other has been the best feeling I have had happen. Have a ford buddy and he even held back from "ripping" on me about this. Thanks for posting this, sad to see this is such a wide spread issue.
  10. "the truck is operating as designed". This is a slap in the face to every new owner out there. This isn't the 1950's. That kind of thing being said really doesn't set well. Pretty much getting that same story but they are still looking at things and my pickup has the good year eagle what ever... they did find a bad one yesterday. This whole thing has kicked in my obsessive issue to try and figure out what the heck is going on. Literally weeks of research for me and found many great posts and videos from so many ppl. I did learn that the company that manufactures, (if i remember right), the drive lines, rear axles etc Is American Axle, and the plant being in Mexico. Thank you for adding that you took the rep for a drive. That is something I had not thought of. Will be adding that option to my list as this progresses. The saddest thing about all of this for so many ppl is what it is taking away from the rest of owning the vehicle. I love driving this thing. When you find a speed with no vibration even for a very short time, these are the nicest, most comfortable vehicles i have ever been in. Hope you continue to have things go good for you. Makes me feel better when I hear that someone had had some good fortune on these issues.
  11. This is exactly the same thing that happened to me. That is why I wanted a new vehicle they drove so nice. Now I wonder if any of them had the problem and may have been fixed or something. I was looking for a suburban but did not find the one I wanted so ended up with this...
  12. Great advice, thanks again. I am going to play their game for sure but it really sucks since I am 125 miles one way from them. Looks like this post has really quieted down the past few days. I wont let anyone look at it other than go for a ride at this point. That will be a last resort only if needed. Hope to get it in for a road surface balance and PICO test this week.
  13. I was not aware of such a person/position. How do i find out who this is? Have only dealt with the shop mgr. I went to a private repair shop and talked to them yesterday. Finally some young guys that have a clue!!! They started talking about ways that can look for vibrations in different ways that I have never heard of. He said everything has a spec and it can be checked pretty easily. Gave me some things to look into. One suggestion was to inflate the tires to the max air pressure labeled on the tire then drive it and see if it makes any difference. Missed the call back from GM cust support yesterday so will give them a call very first thing Monday. I gave him this forum info so he can look further into things. Told him if they could find some answers they could make a lot of money as ppl run past their warranty and on all the used pickups and suv's out there. Also do u know of anyplace that does the on vehicle tire balance? Not sure if there is one in Montana anymore. Man I hope we get this figured out. I have been spending soo much time on this and not getting other stuff done!! Thanks again.
  14. Jim, Yes I do. I have tried very hard to build and maintain a good relationship and have been polite and courteous. I know they are not personally responsible for these problems but are the main link to get to a good resolution. They have been great so far and when I talked to the guy at the dealer where purchased, and told him things were unacceptable, he gave me the GM contact info. We both maintained proper communication. I learned a long time ago to never go in with an attitude to start as I had seen others do. Nobody likes being attacked right off the start. Thank you again for your advice, I really appreciate it.
  15. Thank you, I did open a case yesterday with GM. I feel so much better since I found this site. All the great posts and the information is very helpful. I have made very specific notes on this since the morning I got it. Mileage etc who I talked to and all of the paperwork from the dealers etc. I know a few ppl that have these pickups and no problems with them. So hopefully this will be taken care of soon!!
